CHAPTER 14

Kris

Three days ago, I had no idea I would stumble upon the woman of my dreams stranded in a snowbank on the side of the road. But she couldn’t be more perfect for me. It should be weird that she’s also everything Nick needs, but it’s not.

Olivia slid into our lives like she’s been there the whole time. It’s been three days of absolute fucking bliss. She moves between the two of us as though it’s the most normal of dynamics. The two of us share her without a tinge of jealousy.

She climbs into my bed for me to make love to her and into Nick’s to be fucked. Individually, both of us giving her everything she could need. And when we take her together, we worship her body in ways she could never imagine .

Those couple of hours that we had her cuffed and ratchet strapped to the dining room table definitely being some of the most memorable…

The snow had melted enough yesterday afternoon for me to retrieve her car from the side of the road, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I wanted at least one more night with her.

Climbing from her bed this morning, I leave her entwined in Nick’s arms to do the right thing.

Being the good guy fucking sucks .

Stealing Olivia’s car keys from her purse, I sneak out of the house. When I fire up the diesel engine of the tow truck, I hope the noise doesn’t wake the two of them. The truck splashes through puddles on the long, muddy drive as I head to the main road and toward town.

A few miles before town, I reach her car, still sitting on the side of the road. Turning around, I park in front of it, hook it up and tow it to my shop.

Pulling into the garage, I’m surprised to see Jack working on the Shelby. Lifting his head from under the hood, he calls out, “Hey, boss. Where the hell have you been?”

“Nick and I got snowed in out at the cabin.”

“And the car? ”

“Belongs to a woman we found on the side of the road. Need to replace the tire, check the fuel line, fill it with gas and tow it back out to the cabin.”

“Wait.” He wipes his greasy hands on his overalls. “You mean to tell me you got snowed in with a woman? Please tell me she’s hot.”

“She is absolutely gorgeous,” I reply with a slight crack, the thought of her walking from my life tearing at my heart.

“So lucky,” Jack’s voice oozes with jealousy, “Meanwhile, I got snowed in with Daisy.”

“Daisy is a beautiful girl, Jack,” I smirk at him.

“Kris,” his tone is flat, “she’s a fucking dog.”

“I know.” I smugly tap his shoulder. “But she’s such a good fucking girl.”

“Why the fuck do I put up with you?” He shakes his head as he gets to work dropping Olivia’s car from the tow.

“Pretty sure it’s because I sign your paycheck,” I laugh before walking down the street to the bakery. We’ve been talking about the maple pecan brioches for days, and I want to bring some back for Olivia.

Even if she is going to wind up taking them on the road with her .

By the time I get back to the shop, Jack is already done with her car, and he is about to start hooking it back up to the tow truck.

“Everything good?” I question earnestly. “I don’t want her to wind up stranded on the side of the road miles from anywhere.”

“Yeah.” Jack nods as he begins to hoist the car. “I checked it over. It was just the blown tire and a tear in the fuel line.”

“I’ll be back tomorrow.” I climb into the truck, wanting to get home before Nick and Olivia get up. “Keep an eye on the shop?”

“Of course, boss.” He nods as I pull out of the garage and start the short drive back to the cabin. Every bit of me wants to leave her car at the garage and feign various issues with it so that we can keep her around a little while longer.

But I’m not that guy…

Pulling up to the cabin, I don’t see any lights on as I park. I take my time unhooking her car, debating what I can say to her to make her want to stay. I pop the trunk and grab her suitcase, carrying it up to the porch. Rolling it into the house behind me, I’m surprised to find Olivia standing in my shirt at the door .

“Where did you disappear to?” She wraps her arms around me as though I’ve been gone for weeks.

“The snow melted enough to get down the driveway. I took your car into town and got it all fixed up for you.” I pause to pull her into me and inhale her sweet scent. “So you can get home to your family for Christmas.”

She pulls back from me just far enough to stretch onto her toes and place a firm kiss against my lips. She smiles up at me. “Thank you!”

“What’s going on?” Nick groggily walks from the hallway.

“Kris fixed my car so I can get home for Christmas.” She happily walks to him and kisses him as well. “Isn’t that great news?”

“Yeah.” He forces a smile at her, but I can hear the pain in his voice. “That’s great news.”

His eyes meet mine, and I know everything that he is feeling without him needing to say a word.

I also feel as though my heart is being torn from my chest.
