CHAPTER SEVEN

RHEA

My first thought is why does my body hurt so much just to blink? I groan and slowly lift my head, squinting my eyes to look around. “Morning,” Acid’s deep voice greets me. I cast my eyes down and see him beneath me. It’s then that I realise I am only in my bra and shorts. I roll off him, groaning with each movement.

“Oh my god,” I complain, now laying on the floor beside Acid. He leans up on his elbow, looking down on me. His eyes appear tired and bloodshot, yet he still has a playful smile across his lips.

“I warned you that it would hurt the next day.” He laughs.

“It’s like I’ve cracked them all over again,” I complain.

He gets to his feet and holds out his hand to help me up. “Come on, let’s find your top and get you some water and painkillers.”

I lift my hand to him, and even that feels like a monumental effort. He pulls me to my feet, and I practically sob in pain. “What was I doing?” I groan.

“You were rocking out, head-banging, and then you climbed up onto the bar and fell off it,” Acid informs me.

My eyes go wide, and I cover my face with my hands, mortified. “Oh my god, I didn’t?” I gasp.

“Oh yeah darlin’, you sure did,” Acid says as he hands me my T-shirt and his hoodie that he lent me.

The fresh morning chill was causing me to shiver, so I quickly put them on. He takes my hand in his and leads me to the kitchen, where he hands me a bottle of cold water and two painkillers. I knock the tablets back and down the entire bottle, cringing at how my mouth feels as dry as the desert. He goes about putting the coffee machine on, but the smell makes me retch. I cover my mouth with my hand.

Acid turns his attention to me. “You going to hurl?” he asks.

I shake my head no, but then I retch again. My eyes wide as I run out of the kitchen to the bathroom quicker than the roadrunner. I make it to the toilet just in time. As I shove my head down it and empty my stomach, I feel Acid grab my hair in his hands and hold it back for me.

“Don’t look at me,” I groan. I inhale, taking deep breaths. He doesn’t say anything. He just continues to hold my hair back from my face and soothingly rub my back. When I think I can’t bring up anymore, I sit back against the wall. Acid takes a towel and wipes my face before flushing the toilet. I look up at him with tears in my eyes. “I’m sorry.” I sniff.

He squats down in front of me and tucks my hair back behind my ear. “It’s my fault for making you drink with me. I knew you weren’t a big drinker. I shouldn’t have pushed those drinks on you,” he states.

I frown at him. “You didn’t force them into me. I took them willingly. You needed a blow out, and I was there supporting you. It’s what friends do.” I smile.

“Come on, you need to get back to bed and sip some water. You’re really dehydrated.” He hooks his hands under my arms and lifts me to my feet before he leads me into his room.

“Hey, you trying to take advantage of me in my vulnerable state?” I ask as I climb into his bed.

“Oh damn, you’ve caught me. That was my plan. Get you completely wasted then wait until the next morning when you’re chucking your guts up to make my move,” he teases as he pulls the covers over me.

I flip him my middle finger. “Fuck you, but thank you,” I mumble, snuggling in.

He smirks. “It’s only 6 am. I didn’t want to disturb Olly. Get some sleep and I will bring you in some water.”

I feel myself drifting off to sleep, despite the incessant throbbing in my head.

I’m not sure how long I was asleep for. I blink my eyes awake, cringing when my head is still throbbing and my body still aching. I sit up and rub my face. Looking at the bedside table, I see a note from Acid.

Painkillers, and sip water. Olly is good. I’ve taken him for a ride and to probably a few titty bars. Don’t worry, I promise it will just be the classy ones.

Xx

I sigh as I grab the water and painkillers, taking them. I sip the water this time, not wanting to be sick. I feel disgusting. I lift my arm and smell my pit, scrunching my nose in disgust.

“Oh god,” I groan. I decide as Acid is out to use his shower. I could go back to my room, but I don’t want to risk anyone else seeing me in this state. I gingerly get up, my body still protesting any movement. I open one of his draws, looking for a T-shirt to pinch. “That is not a T-shirt,” I mutter to myself as I pick up a set of handcuffs, and what looks like wrist and ankle restraints. I raise my brow. “Acid be kinky.” I snort. I open another draw and see the T-shirts. “Thank god,” I sigh, a little worried what I would stumble upon next. I grab the first T-shirt there and head into the shower.

As soon as I get under the hot spray, I moan. God, that feels good. I grab Acid’s shampoo and wash my hair. “Make yourself at home, why don’t you?” I hear Acid’s deep voice say.

I scream and jump, cringing when the shampoo runs into my eyes. “Acid! What the fuck! Get out!” I screech. “Ow, fuck! My eyes,” I hiss.

“Here,” he says. He grabs my hand and places a towel in it

I quickly wipe my eyes before I stick my head around the shower curtain. “Seriously! I’m in the shower!” I screech.

“I didn’t look,” he states, his eyes sparkling a little.

“Liar,” I counter.

He smirks. “I promise, I was a complete gentleman,” he says, crossing his heart.

“Can I finish?” I ask.

“Of course, of course,” he says, smiling. He walks towards the door but stops just before walking out. “Uh um, nice tattoo.” He winks.

I quickly throw the towel at him. He roars with laughter as he shuts the door behind him. I laugh quietly to myself, feeling embarrassment hit my cheeks.

After the shower, I walk back into his room and see him sprawled out on his bed with his hands behind his head. I stop in front of the bed and fold my arms across my chest. His playful blue eyes land on mine.

“I’m sorry,” he apologises, trying to keep the amusement out of his voice. “Seriously though, who did that tattoo?” he asks.

I roll my eyes. It was just a silly little flower inked just above my behind. “Me. I did it when I was like 16, using a mirror. That’s why it’s wonky and faded.” I sit down on the opposite end of the bed.

“It’s pretty fucking good considering you did it on yourself,” he compliments.

I scrunch up my nose and shake my head. “I’ve drawn better. I used to do it for friends when I was at college,” I tell him.

He raises his brow. “Why didn’t I know this?” he asks.

“Because I didn’t tell you.” I shrug. “It’s irrelevant,” I sigh. “Anyway, I better go and see Oliver, and actually behave like a parent,” I add as I get off the bed.

I stop at his door. “Thank you,” I say softly.

He gives me a nod. “No worries, but just so you know, Olly has decided he wants to marry a stripper when he’s older,” he teases.

I let out a small laugh as I leave. Walking down to the main area, I see that they’ve set up a TV and a brand new games console in the corner. Oliver and Hawk are sat next to each other, playing some kind of alien fighting game.

“How long have I been asleep?” I ask, looking around.

Star comes up behind me. “Looks good, huh?” she says, making me jump.

“Seriously, you all didn’t have to do this,” I say, feeling a little stunned.

“Oh, we didn’t do it,” she states.

I frown and look at her confused. “But who did?” I ask.

“Acid. He said to Ghost about it. He pointed out that as soon as the kids are a little older, they would be on there playing it.” She shrugged.

“He bought all that?” I ask.

Star smiles. “Yeah.”

“Why?” I breathe. “I can’t afford to pay him back,” I say, feeling a little panicked at the amount of money he must have spent out.

Star grabs my shoulders and turns me to face her. “He doesn’t want you to pay him back. You are a part of this family, and Olly is a part of this family. He’s just done something nice, and that’s all there is to it.” I feel tears sting my eyes. He has already done so much for us. I struggle to handle the warmth in my chest.

In that moment, while I’m trying to find the words, Oliver decides to shout at the top of his lungs. “I’m going to kick your ass, boy!”

“Oh Jesus,” I mutter. Star cracks up laughing, and I can’t hold it in either. Laughing with her, I wipe away the few stray tears that managed to escape.
