CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
ACID
They took her from me, ripped her right out of my fucking arms. She screamed and tried to fight, tried to claw her way back to me. Every muscle of my body tensed and strained against the restraints. Eugene sighs from where he has sat next to me. “Love is such a raw emotion,” he sighs.
“We are not in love,” I grit through my teeth.
Eugene raises his dark brow. “Really? Now, either you are trying to play it down, so I won’t use that against you, or you are stupid.” He looks at me closer and smiles. “You think I haven’t been watching? I have watched you all of you ever since your brother, your best friend killed my son. I’ve watched as you’ve gone all gooey eyed over her. I’ve watched as she had another brother of yours round where he fucked her for hours. We could hear her screams of passion from outside the building. We watched as you fucked her with your fingers on your date tonight.” He tuts. “For all to see.” He picks up his drink and takes a sip. “We watched you fuck her up against the wall, and we watched how she sucked your cock,” he sneers. My eyes snap to his and he smiles. “Oh yes, we saw everything. It’s amazing, really. One of my men simply applied for a job there, and while your lady was distracted, he planted some cameras in her apartment. It was easy. A little too easy.” He shrugs.
“Let her go,” I seethe through gritted teeth.
“Well, you see, I wasn’t going to take her. I just thought I’d come for you. Well, that’s a lie. I wanted to take Nova. That’s your sister, isn’t it? Tell me, how does it make you feel that your best friend is fucking your sister?” He smiles as his words slice through me. “I digress, she was too difficult to get to, either when she was with him or at the club, and I don’t want him. I want him to suffer, to feel pain, and the next best thing was you. So, I watched, and I waited. The thing is the more I watched and waited, the more I wanted her. So, imagine my joy when I knew you were both there together. You made this so much easier for me.” He sighs as he gets up and paces. “Yes, she will be well looked after. I don’t want the kid. That’s just an interference. She will entertain me nicely, when I want, and however I fucking want,” he sneers.
I yank on the restraints again, wanting to jump for him and rip his throat out. “Do what you want to me but let her go,” I demand again.
He tuts and shakes his head. “That I’m afraid is not an option. Now, this will be just for show, so it may hurt a little, but you understand I need to get the message across,” he says as he pulls out a small blade. With my hands and legs retrained against the chair, I have no way of avoiding what he plans to do. He picks up my cell and holds it to my face so it unlocks, then scrolls through until he finds what he wants. I hear the ringing sound of him making a video call.
“What?” Ghost’s voice rings out.
“Good evening,” Eugene greets.
It’s late and I’m guessing that Ghost was asleep and didn’t look at his phone properly until now. “Who the fuck are you?” he growls.
“How rude of me. Let me introduce myself. I’m Eugene, and I’m here with a friend of yours. Say hello,” he says, turning so that Ghost can see me over his shoulder.
“You fucking hurt him and you’re a fucking dead man,” Ghost threatens.
Eugene just smiles, and with the small blade in his other hand, he slowly and fucking agonisingly carves it down my cheek. I grit my teeth and hiss in pain. “Oops, sorry. I misunderstood.” I squeeze my eyes shut as I try to breathe through the pain. “Now that I have your undivided attention, here is what is going to happen. I am going to torture him for a little while, maybe even kill him, I’m not sure yet. I will record everything I do then send it express delivery to your VP.” Eugene smiles. Ghost attempts to argue with him, but Eugene just laughs back and counters it.
I stay quiet as I come to terms with my fate. I’ve never been afraid of death. My entire life I’ve run right alongside it, close to the edge of it. There was a time when I would have welcomed it. I had wished for it to take hold of me, to silence the monsters, and although I would fight death now, I would gladly accept it if it meant she could live.
“Kill me, and you let her go,” I state, interrupting. Their conversation stops and Eugene turns his attention to me. I look him square in the eye, showing no fear or doubt for the words that are coming out of my mouth. “Kill me, but you free her,” I growl with conviction.
“Acid, no,” Ghost fumes.
“I already told you my plans for her,” Eugene reminds me.
“You kill me, you let her go. There won’t be any reprieve from the club. That will be it, drawing a line in the sand. You want to hurt Spider, kill me, but you’ve got to fucking let her go,” I say through gritted teeth.
Eugene pauses, thinking for a moment. I plead with my eyes to Ghost, to back me up on it, to let me make this deal. “We will agree to those terms,” Ghost adds. I can see by his face that he hates this idea.
“Very well, that is an offer I cannot refuse, but with one condition.” Eugene pauses, a sadistic grin spreading across his face. “I want to be there when your VP watches the footage. I want to see and feel every bit of his pain, the anguish he will go through at seeing his best friend, his brother of all those years. After all they’ve been through, growing up in that home. To then witness his friend’s despair, his desperation, and the blood curdling screams of pain coming from his mouth that will destroy your VP.”
“You’re a sick son of a bitch,” Ghost hisses.
Eugene places his hand on his heart and mocks hurt. “It’s a gift, really.” The smile falls from his face. “You’ve got 1 hour to get the girl. I will text you the location. You don’t get there in time, I will keep her. I was quite looking forward to having a new play thing,” Eugene adds before he ends the call.
I glare at him, refusing to show any weakness. I hope he’s prepared for disappointment because I refuse to give him the satisfaction of seeing me begging for my life.
Eugene turns away from me and calls over one of his men, speaking quietly so I won’t hear. He nods and walks off and a few moments later, I hear Rhea’s scream as she cries out. Instinctively, I try to fight against the restraints to get to her. I see his men dragging her, and she’s now completely naked. Her eyes land on mine and they widen when she sees the cut to my face. I know it’s bad as I can feel the blood running down my neck. She fights them and breaks free before she runs towards me and drops down to her knees. Her hands are shaking as she goes to cup my face, tears streaming down her face.
“I’m okay,” I assure her. Her hand rests gently over the cut and I hiss in pain.
“You’re not okay,” she whispers. “I will send the club, and they will get you out of here.” She sniffs.
I give her a small smile and nod, not wanting to tell her the deal. If I did, I know she would refuse to go. I notice finger marks on her neck and breast and her smile falters. “It’s okay, they didn’t get very far. I’ve experienced worse.” She smiles, trying to make light of it.
“Kiss me,” I rasp.
She presses her lips to mine and the taste of her tears coat both our lips. I savour the way her mouth feels, her scent, her touch, everything.
“Okay, that’s enough,” Eugene sighs and a few seconds later she’s dragged from me.
She doesn’t fight them. Her eyes sear into mine as the realisation of what’s happening hits her. “No, no! Don’t do this!” she pleads, shaking her head. She thrashes against them, trying to break free of their hold. “Acid, no! No! I need you!” she wails.
I grit my jaw so tight it feels like it will snap. I lift my chin, keeping my emotions locked in tight. Even though seeing her like this feels a hundred times worse than the thought of my own death.
“Please!” she sobs. “No, we’ve just found each other. Please,” she cries. Her last words as they leave cuts through me. “I love you,” she shouts. “Nash, I love you.”
I wanted to yell it back. I wanted to tell her that I loved her, that I knew I loved her ever since that night we drank together. Instead, I kept it locked deep down inside me, knowing it wasn’t the right time, knowing it would scare her away. Only now she will never know. I will die with that secret to protect her anymore pain and guilt.
