Chapter 6

Six

Roan

I hit the steering wheel as she runs off in frustration. Hitting a button on my screen, my phone calls Roark.

“I think we need to go with Plan B.”

Roark sighs, “Let’s get it together. Next weekend. It will be a weekend she won’t forget.”

I hang up and drive back to our house. Roark is in meetings with a new shipping company, but Everen and Bastian will be home.

Pulling into the garage, I’m in the house before the garage door closes.

I find them in the living room, yelling at the TV while playing Call of Duty.

“Plan B,” is all I say, and they drop their controllers.

Bastian’s eyebrows raise. “Really? Is this how we want to play it?”

I shrug. “Roark did say it will be a weekend she won’t forget.”

Everen claps his hands together. “Oh, it will be. This weekend?”

I nod. “Get the guys to set it up.”

Bastian types out a few texts. “Done. Well, we only have a few days. How do we know she’ll show?”

“”She might work, and she’s doesn’t party.

“I know how we’ll get her there,” Everen states, “but we have to have a chat with Micah first, so she’s off work.”

Checking my watch, “With the rain, the bar is probably busy. Also call in the pledge. Have him meet us there.”

Bastian sends out another text as we pile back into my car. The rain isn’t as bad as it was, so that’s a plus. I love the rain. I used to love sitting on the porch with Ava while it rained. It was our thing, and I miss it.

My phone rings and it displays my father is calling me. I answer because letting him wait has consequences.

“Dad,” I answer and switch to speaker phone.

“Son, I have a job for you. I’ll send you the details later. But it’s really just a snatch and grab.”

“That’s no fun,” Everen chimes in and Dad laughs.

“I have something else for you guys next week. Have to see if the supplier comes through. Roark is in talks right now, but if this falls through, I’ll let you loose.”

Everen just laughs. “Sounds fun.”

You wouldn’t think this guy could hurt a fly by looking at him. I mean, his credentials are animal lover, star quarterback, and ladies' man. But he has more kills than me.

“You’re crazy.” Dad hangs up.

We get to the bar and we head inside. Micah sees us coming. He must know we need to talk to him as he jerks his head toward the office.

The pledge rushes through right as Micah closes the door. I glare at him, and he sinks back against the wall.

“What’s up?” Micah asks.

Bastian just jumps to it, “We need you to give Ava Saturday off. The river party.”

Micah’s eyes go wide. “What are you going to do?”

I love how he cares for her. “We’re not going to hurt her, but she needs to hear us out.”

He snorts, “Hearing you out is going to hurt her. It will just bring up poor memories.”

I frown, “You know who we are, right?”

He nods.

“Then you know what we’re capable of. We’re not asking you. We’re telling you to give her the night off.”

He shakes his head up and down. “Just promise not to hurt her.”

Everen steps forward, “We don’t want to hurt her, we want her back.”

“Fine. I’ll give her the day off.”

“We need your office,” I tell him, and he leaves, not looking back at us.

I call the pledge forward, “Tomorrow, you’re going to get an invite. You’re going to give it to someone and tell them they get a plus one. This plus one has to be Ava. You and this person will convince her to show up.”

The pledge who looks scared agrees.

“We’ll text you tomorrow.”

He scurries out as we exit the office, waving at Ben and Micah on our way out. They don’t like us and that’s because of what happened with Ava. We understand that.

“She’s not going to be happy,” Ev surmises as we drive home.

He’s right. No, she will not be happy—at first. But she will have the time of her life.
