Chapter 12

Twelve

Violet

“You guys, I think I’m going to throw up.”

Walker reaches across the center console and threads his fingers through mine. Picking my hand up, he places an unusually soft kiss against the back of it. But then he locks eyes with me and I see the usual heat there. “Little Bell, I love you, but if you throw up in my car, we’re going to have a problem.”

Cooper sits forward in the backseat and smacks Walk across the back of the head. “Don’t be such a dickhead. She has every right to be nervous.”

Walker winks over at me before looking at Cooper in the rear view mirror. “Okay, one. That fucking hurt. And two. She has no reason to be nervous. She’s met our parents before.”

Walk rounds the corner, and I see the familiar house at the end, perched happily in the center of the cul-de-sac.

Spencer reaches around the side of my seat and brushes the pad of his thumb along my cheekbone. I let his touch center me like it always does. “Walk, not everyone is as aloof as you. Cooper’s right. She’s allowed to be nervous.”

“I know she has every right to be. But all I’m saying is she doesn’t need to be.” A softness takes over his face. “Our parents love Violet, and that’s not going to change.”

The car pulls into the driveway, and Walker puts it in park. It takes all of two seconds for the front door to swing open, and Andy and Carol come barreling out.

“Ready, Baby Girl?” I can hear the nervousness in Coop’s voice despite him trying to hide it.

I look over my shoulder and smile at the boy I’ve fallen head over heals for. The one I knew I was always meant to be with. Then my eyes move to Spencer, the boy who has been by my side even when I didn’t know he was there. The one who always knew he was meant to be with me. And then I find Walker’s blue eyes watching me. Always watching. He was the boy who hid in the shadows because he knew neither of us was ready for him to be in the light. But now he’s here.

They all are.

And I need to be here for them.

“Ready.”
