Epilogue

After the guests departed the following day, Ardal helped Misty clean up the mess. They transported Rufin back to thirteen Laurel Street in the Irish Channel District and buried him in the backyard where his murder of crows could watch over his rotting body.

Faba was so frightened by what she witnessed while she was in Ardal’s presence, she hurried back to where she came from without bothering to give him her home address or her phone number.

Misty and Blaine took Forest and Noel and went back to Austin to begin a new year together. She admitted her Thinning of the Veil Event had not turned out the way she’d hoped, but she vowed to try again next year.

Gillette went home to Texas with Saffron, Pete and her bloodhound, Lulu. Lulu had taken on a new persona now that she was host to Sonny Hart’s spirit.

Saddened over Rufin’s death, Gillette was not pleased with Sonny’s aggressive behavior and she and Misty planned to have a meeting to discuss Sonny’s future.

Ardal transported back to High Mountain with his father and Rosita. A little disappointed in Faba’s sudden departure, but thankful he hadn’t become too attached to her.

Helga waited on her perch for Ardal’s return and when he arrived, she flew in high arcing circles around the stone cottage screeching out cries of happiness.

“Thank you for the welcome, Helga. I don’t think I’ll be going to any parties for a long while.”
