CHAPTER ONE
Alpha Squad stood guard in the hospital room of the young girl who was now a part of their family. She was one of theirs, in more ways than one. She was the sister of Jade Malone, the significant other of Sammuel “Joker” Jones, a U.S. Navy SEAL. Both had been victims of human trafficking. Joker was assigned to the same SEAL Team as the husband of a team member of Alpha Squad.
Their case caused a huge ripple close to home for all of them. Jade had gone looking for her missing sister only to become a victim herself. In the process, she was ordered to find a man to become the new stud for a pregnancy human trafficking situation.
Bad guy had been kidnapping women, raping them to get them pregnant and then giving them three chances to produce a son. If they succeeded, then they lived, after the third birth, if no son, they were killed. The babies that were born as girls were abandoned in hospitals or fire stations because the bad guy’s wife wouldn’t allow him to kill an innocent child.
The wife had cancer and could no longer have children. They were trying to replace a couple of their kids that had died a few years ago. The husband aka the bad man, became impotent and could no longer inflict his nightmare on the women he kidnapped.
It was decided that a stud would be found. Since Jade was the new girl on the block, so to speak, and not pregnant, she was sent out to a bar that was known by the suspect, especially since it was run by a family member of his. When Jade had seen Joker, she thought he was the answer to her prayers. She knew who he was.
Jade drugged his drink, in hopes that his team would come looking for him and praying they would find them all. While it took a little bit since the team was in Los Angeles with Alpha Squad on a case, both Joker and Jade endured hell for several weeks. But in the end, they were found and rescued.
It took a little longer for Serenity to be found and rescued. She was eventually found in Mexico and rescued by the good guys. Alpha Squad had gone to the hospital to guard the young girl, fearing there would still be attempts to take her, Joker and Jade due to the massive shakedown that was going on in Bishop County, a county next to theirs. The case caused an entire takedown of two law enforcement departments. Bishop County Sheriff’s Department and Riverdale PD.
It was a massive operation that involved not only Riverside Sheriff’s Department, the Human Trafficking Task Force, CA State Troopers, and the FBI, but they included Lt. Joseph “Highlander” MacLeod and Matthew “Wolf” Steel’s Navy SEALs teams as well. They knew those men wouldn’t sit still when one of their own needed them.
“You won’t be able to get them all. The ones the military guys took out when we were rescued weren’t the only ones involved,” Serenity Malone mumbled as she fidgeted with the edge of the hospital blanket.
“What do you mean, sweetie?” Cheryl Diesel stepped forward, a soft smile on her face as she looked at Serenity.
“The main guy. He’s really mean. He said for us to give the military boys a message to give to some task force. Specifically, someone named Red.”
Everyone present in the room turned toward Laura “Red” Pratt as she stepped forward. Giving the young girl a smile, she nodded at Serenity.
When Pratt looked over at Sammy “Joker” Jones, he could see the confusion in her eyes. When she shrugged, he could see she was just as confused as the rest of the room.
“I’m the one everyone calls Red. What did the guy say, sweetie?” Laura “Red” Pratt asked softly.
“I-I can’t remember word for word. Something about his father may be in hiding and you getting rid of the one obstacle that thought you were in control. He’s in control now. He’s coming for you and everything you love to take back what is rightfully owed to him.”
When Pratt’s eyes went cold, Joker had to shiver. He’s seen her angry as hell before, but never ice cold. He was starting to wonder if Raso had the right call sign. Joker had to admit he was scared slightly. He knew her coldness wasn’t directed at Serenity or him.
“Thank you, Serenity. Do you remember what the guys in his crew called him, or he called himself?”
“I think he said his name was Cyrus.” Serenity shuffled slightly in the hospital bed.
“Thank you again, Serenity. You focus on getting better. Cyrus will never lay another hand on you or your family. I promise you that.”
When Pratt turned to leave, Diesel, Raso, and York followed her. Who was Cyrus?
“Laura, who is Cyrus?” Sammy “Joker” Jones asked, confusion in his voice.
“My half-brother,” Pratt answered coldly without looking back.
“What are you going to do?” Jade Malone looked around, trying to keep calm at the revelation.
“Take the fucking trash out that should have been taken out years ago.”
