CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
After some discussion, it was decided between Laura, Highlander, Dominick, and Jeannette that the kids would be better off staying with Jeannette since she had the bodyguards and more would be added. Highlander would be returning home with Laura and making more appearances out together to see if they could draw Cyrus or Kathy out.
“What about Cody?” Abe started to ask before the glares started.
“No!” Laura and Highlander said together venomously.
Abe put his hands up in surrender. “Sorry, it was just a suggestion. Not like he would be alone.”
“Would you dangle one of your kids? No offense Abe, I know you meant well, but we both know you wouldn’t allow your own kids to be used as bait. I’m not about to let my child be used to draw them out.” Laura stared at Abe, trying to keep herself calm.
“You’re right. If it was mine, I wouldn’t do that. I apologize.”
“Wait. Isn’t there a male officer about the same height as Cody? The kid isn’t exactly fun sized like his mom. He’s five foot eight inches give or take. He’s going into high school next year and wants to play football,” Dominick suggested, looking over at Captain Irby for confirmation.
“Shit. There is. He almost looks like Cody, too. Minus the puberty stage of zits and things, they are close in looks and height. Laura, would you be opposed to bringing Cody in for us to make sure everything is close in matching? I’d even suggest bringing in something of Cody’s we can let Winters use. He’s a rookie, but this would be good training for him. Just graduated the academy after four years in the Marine Corps.”
“Who’s to say they fall for this guy being Cody. Cody is still in school. There’s no way they fall for him just being out and about somewhere,” Laura reminded her team.
“She’s right. Cody is a geek. He loves school. Kid’s a fucking math genius. He’s not the type to miss school,” Raso backed Laura up, rubbing her face with her hands.
“Ok, we try what we can for a few days. If we haven’t found them come Saturday, then we use Winters to draw them out,” Captain Irby decided as she looked at her team.
“That could work. Doesn’t Cody have a baseball game this weekend?” Laura asked, looking over at Highlander.
“Aye. He does. Lass, we will need to talk to him. Let him know what is going on. Have Winters at ye grandmothers the night before. Then he be the one to leave. My team will stay behind and watch the bairns while we are in play,” Highlander considered as he nodded at his guys who nodded back.
“My team will spread around the field and keep an eye out,” Wolf offered, looking at the guys he had with him, who agreed.
“Laura, with your permission, I’d like to come out to help keep my grandson safe.” General McCoy looked at Laura with hope in his eyes.
“I think that would be perfect. You can join us at the field to cheer Winters on. If we go as one happy family, that will make either Kathy or Cyrus make a move,” Laura agreed, looking between Highlander and General McCoy.
“Aye. I will be there with ye three. Have the uncle there on vacation,” Mike suggested, throwing his hat into the ring.
“That could work. Ghost, will you and your team be joining?” Laura looked over at the Delta Force operator hopefully.
“Yes. If it’s good with the general, we will come in and assist Wolf and his team with the sweep.”
“I’m good with it,” General McCoy agreed, nodding his head toward the group.
“Ok. So, we have a plan. Special Agent Clemmins, the ball is in your court for you to find us those three. Deanna or Cyrus Placid or Kathy Pratt. You have permission to apprehend, if need be, but we get to interrogate them if you catch them first,” Captain Irby declared, informing Agent Clemmins of their plans.
“Works for me. Good luck, everyone!”
“It’s a plan. Bring this Winters fella over Friday while Cody is at school. They will be looking for him there and this kid can get in without issues. We can work with the plan from there.” Jeannette tapped her cane on the ground as a definitive.
“Fucking D’Jarmin is a thot! She needs to have her ass kicked!” Diesel smacked the table while reading her phone.
“What did the bitch do now?” York shook her head as she looked over at Diesel.
“This bitch walked up to Viper and asked if she could have a ride. He told her he didn’t allow strangers on his bike. Only me. She told him she didn’t mean the bike. He told her he wouldn’t touch her with Kermit’s dick and to fuck off.” Diesel laughed as she started texting back with Viper.
“Is Viper here?” Laura laughed as she also shook her head at Diesel.
“Yeah. He’s talking to Brody now in the lobby.”
“What’s a thot?” Jeannette asked, looking around the room confused.
“A thirsty ass whore,” Laura explained to her grandmother.
“Well, give her some water and she won’t be so thirsty.” Jeannette just shrugged as she stood up, staring at everyone in confusion when the room burst into laughter.
“Wrong kind of thirsty, Grams. The best way to explain it is Mom and Maria. They use their looks and actions to screw a man for his money and station in life,” Dominick further explained to his grandmother.
“Ah. Well, they need water too with all that hoeing that they do.” Jeannette shrugged as she nodded at Cliff.
“That’s it. I’m adopting your grandmother as mine! Fight me!” Brody said as he walked into the room with Viper behind him.
“Oh, who is this tall drink of sexy water?” Jeannette smiled sweetly at Viper as she looked him up and down.
“My name is Dean, but you can call me Viper. I’m Cheryl’s husband.” Dean “Viper” McKnight shook Jeannette’s hand with a big smile.
“If I was fifty years younger, I’d be a thot too if I had these men walking around in my eyesight. Lucky for you ladies I’m too damn old, so I’m living life through you. You ladies need any advice, and I mean any advice, let me know. Although I think the Saran wrap and Wesson oil might be messy, there’s still plenty of other ideas.” Jeannette winked at Viper who blushed a bright red before walking over to Diesel.
