Thirty-Five

Aiden

I waited for Makayla to hang up her call with Curtis before attacking her with kisses as I wrapped her in my arms, determined to never let her go.

“Are you serious about what you just said?” I questioned, holding her body against mine as she sat on my lap.

She nodded and inhaled a shaky breath.

“Yeah. I think I am.”

“You’re really moving to Sugarplum Falls?”

“Is that okay?” she asked nervously, lifting her hand to her mouth to chew her nails.

I pushed her hand away and cupped her chin in my fingers as I forced her to look at me.

“Mak, there’s nothing I want more in this world than to have you move here. Ideally, with me. In my house.”

“Aiden,” she said with a laugh. “I can’t just move in with you.”

“Why not? You’re practically living with me already. It’s literally just a matter of collecting your stuff from LA and putting it in my house.”

Her brows furrowed slightly as she thought about it.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Everything has felt so temporary that I didn’t allow my mind to wrap around the idea that we were living together. It just kind of happened.”

“Well, you had a stalker and needed a safe place to stay,” I assured her. “But even with your stalker out of the picture, this will always be a safe place for you. This is home if you want it to be.”

She grinned and leaned in to kiss me.

“I want this to be home.”

I hugged her tighter, happiness overflowing from inside of me.

“I’ll need to figure out the details of how to get everything moved out here, but that can wait until after the new year. And I’m sure I’ll need to schedule time to go to LA so I can start recording new music.”

“Why can’t you do that here?”

“I don’t have any equipment out here. I don’t love the studio that I’ve been using, but Curtis was supposed to be looking into a new one.”

“Can’t we build you one here?”

“A professional recording studio?”

“Yeah. Why not?”

“I don’t know where we would build one.”

“I have space out back. I don’t know how big of a studio you need, but I don’t mind sacrificing the backyard to build you your own space back there. We can hire contractors to make sure everything is to your liking. But Mak, this could be really cool. And you wouldn’t have to go back and forth to LA all the time.”

“I do like the idea of having a studio here,” she admitted with a smile. “I’ll send Curtis an email and ask him to get started on this. He can get a team together and send them out to get started once we have an idea of what we want it to look like.”

“Out of all of the Christmas gifts I’ve ever gotten, you staying in Sugarplum Falls is by far the best.”

“Even better than the skull whiskey set?” she teased, giggling when I dug my fingers into her sides and tickled her.
