Chapter Eighteen
Lindsay
A fter Janet crashed our meeting to check in on the festival, I barely had time to run home and get ready. I had a few outfits laid out on the bed when Adam’s text came through.
Adam: Wear something athletic
I froze as I read it. Was he making me work out on our date? This alpha had clearly lost his damn mind.
Lindsay: I’m not sure if I should be nervous or not.
Adam: Just do it, Lindsay.
I could already picture his exasperated look. Adam called it a date, so I knew there was thought put into it.
That changed my outfit plans so I started looking through my meager clothes pile for the only option I had, a pair of yoga pants and a sports bra. I threw Ollie’s hoodie on over it and was out the door.
Adam was waiting downstairs and even though I was dressed down, a wide smile spread across his face like I was Cinderella heading for a ball.
“Hello, gorgeous,” he said as he held out an arm for me. I slid my arm into his and he brushed a kiss over my temple.
“Where are we going?” I asked. He, of course, ignored my question until he had me settled into the passenger seat of his pickup.
He settled in to drive and finally answered me.
“A friend got me the keys to his gym. I thought maybe we could do a bit of sparring, help you work through your frustrations. It’s cathartic, I promise,” he said. “When my head is a mess and I need a release, this is what I do.”
“You think I need to let go of all this shit?” I teased. “I’m a balanced beta.”
“That you are, but you also tend to keep stuff to yourself. You’ve just gone from hiding away from us to accepting us, finding a new alpha, and losing your home. I think you have more than most to deal with.”
He turned up the music as he navigated through Holiday Hollow. They were already prepping for the winter festival. White lights were hung along the store fronts and there were cute photo-op cutouts of polar bears and silly couples in puffy coats.
“I’m glad we decided to let someone else handle the tent,” I said as I glanced back at Adam. “It’ll be nice to experience the festival instead of working it together for a change.”
“It will,” he agreed. “It might calm my alpha some. Having you on my arm and in my sight. I swear, sometimes when you’d go out on those girl nights, I’d lose my mind. Even when you were in the brewery I may have wanted to turn down service to anyone eyeing you up.”
A snort escaped me, imagining Adam losing his cool. He’d never let an ounce of that show.
“You’ve handled it well,” I reassured him. “Jealousy isn’t something you can help. You seem to be doing better than your first interaction with Spencer.”
“I’m working on it,” he said, giving me a tight smile. “He’s good for you two.”
“He is,” I agreed. “And you and Dustin are good for me.”
“We are,” he said with a cocky grin. “Glad you finally noticed.”
He pulled up outside of the gym and parked right in front. He kept his keys in his hand as he helped me out of the car and unlocked the doors.
It was strange being somewhere like this after hours but it was quiet and peaceful.
“Here I thought you’d go simple like dinner and a movie,” I teased.
“Too simple. We’ve got sparring and dinner,” he laughed. “Come on.”
He led me back to the practice room which was a rather large open space, equipment shoved to the sides. Mats were already laid out on the floor.
“After hearing what that asshole did, I knew I wouldn’t rest until you knew some basic self-defense moves,” he admitted as he dropped his hoodie to the side. “All I could think about is what could have happened if you were there.”
My eyes raked over his gray sweatpants and fitted tee. He was a glorious alpha and my mouth went dry at the sight.
I knew Adam worked out, it was his vice, but recently I’d only seen him in his long sleeve brewery shirts that were most definitely more baggy. Alpha’s were bigger in general but holy fuck.
“I know some self defense,” I admitted as I licked my lips and forced my eyes up to his face.
He smirked but didn’t call me on checking him out. The heat between us was rising by the second and for a second, my beta side wanted to present for him like a pretty, little omega. But that wasn’t me, and if he wanted me, he’d have to work for it.
Plus, Adam had waited for me and I wouldn’t fuck him for the first time on a gym floor. He deserved better than that.
“Show me what you have,” he challenged as he came at me. I let out an undignified squeak before acting on instinct, stomping on his foot and dropping my shoulder to let him tumble over my back.
He let out an oof as he hit the mat hard, his size working against him. When he had his breath back he let out a surprised laugh.
“I shouldn’t have doubted you,” he said as he stood. “Where did you learn that?”
“Hunter taught the girls and I some moves before one of our wine nights. We promptly followed it up with an action movie. And he may have offered to repeat the process until Autumn could bring him to his knees.”
Adam smothered a laugh. “Let me see you punch.”
He grabbed the pads for kickboxing and held it in front of him for me to hit. I made a fist and his grin widened when he saw I did it the right way.
“Good girl. Now show me what you’ve got, beta.”
The challenge in his voice had my eyes narrowing. I cocked my arm back and slammed it into his waiting hand.
He barely budged and bit back a grin.
That only made my fight amp up. I hit him again, each hit had my breath coming out in pants and sweat forming on my skin. More importantly, it had the tension in my body draining out, hit by hit.
My head cleared for the first time in a long time as I landed punches until my body was shaking and couldn’t take anymore. I took one last hit before dropping my hands.
“How do you feel?” he asked gently. I sagged into his hold when he wrapped his arms around me.
“Drained,” I admitted. “But my mind is quiet.”
“Good,” he soothed, leading me back toward the locker room. “I packed you extra clothes. Now come shower with me.”
The aftercare was necessary. I’d overdone it physically a tad—and though I’d gotten my mental break—and I wasn’t ready to leave the comfortable bubble I’d sunk into.
Adam adjusted the spray before helping me out of my sweaty clothes. He did the same and that was what woke me out of the trance. My eyes trailed down his large chest, taking in every ripple and dip of his muscles until I reached a soft trail of dark hair leading down to his cock.
“Holy hell,” I breathed out as I took in the monster between his legs. It rose at the attention and I wanted nothing more than to drop to my knees to worship him like he deserved.
When I forced my eyes back up he was staring at me and I felt my chest warm at the sight of reverence and need in his eyes. I hadn’t even had a moment to overthink baring myself in front of him.
Moving forward, I pressed him into the shower wall and leaned up on my toes to press my lips to his. He melted into my kiss, hands moving to my neck and tilting my head to give him more access.
Even if he was inexperienced, Adam was a natural. The way he dominated my mouth had my toes curling and my body throbbing with need.
His cock pushed into my stomach as we trapped it between us and I reached down, fingers curling around him.
“Fuck,” he cursed as his head fell back. I pressed my lips to his neck, grateful his knees were still bent so I could reach him, and sucked hard on the sensitive flesh as I picked up the pace.
“You need to feel this, too,” he groaned as he lifted me, forcing my legs to go around his waist. He turned us so it was my back now pressed into the wall. His cock was once again trapped between us, though this time it was rubbing against my clit as I rocked my hips. “Use me, firefly.”
His mouth found my neck, licking and sucking where he wanted to claim me as I rocked against him. He was hard as steel and groaned along with me as I fucked myself over him, sliding my wet folds over his shaft.
His caramel-latte scent was everywhere, filling my lungs and marking my body, growing more potent with each teasing stroke.
“Kiss me,” I begged as lightning shot up my spine, pleasure coiling in my stomach and threatening to burst free. “Now.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he teased before slamming his mouth to mine. His plush lips were soft and pliable as he let me lead the kiss this time. I nipped at his bottom lip before sliding my tongue into his mouth, warring with his as we lost ourselves to the moment.
I picked up my pace, grinding furiously against him until my body tightened and my release took hold. I let the orgasm wash over me as I cried out against his mouth. Warm jets of his cum shot between us as he came with me. His knot was swollen and I could already imagine how fucking good he’d feel inside of me. Somehow, someway, I’d find a way to take it.
For now, though, this was perfect.
Adam helped me back to my feet and grinned down at me. The easy smile on his face and darkness of lust in his eyes had my chest tightening.
How had I not seen all along just how much these men wanted me? How much they loved me and held back until now?
My stomach rumbled then, ruining the moment.
We both let out a soft laugh and finished the shower so we could dry off and go to dinner or whatever else he had planned.
It was a strange, but perfect, first date. The entire night just showed how much Adam cared. He wanted to protect me.
Even if he was protecting me from myself.
The spiraling thoughts had always been an issue and now he was giving me an outlet, one I found that I loved.
“So, what’s next?” I asked as I dressed in the clothes he’d left for me.
“I feed you,” he said with a smile.
“That’s such an alpha thing to say,” I said, teasing him. “Just don’t expect me to eat from your hand or anything weird like that.”
“You did during the heat-fog,” Adam countered with a smirk, holding his hands up before I could land one of those hits I’d practiced. “Okay, okay, we’ll compromise.”
“What did you have in mind?
“You sit with me while we eat,” he said. “I’m not ready to let you go just yet.”
There was a hint of vulnerability in his voice that had me agreeing. Smiling as he pulled out a blanket and an insulated bag. Lowering himself down, he gathered me into his lap, taking his time pulling out the various containers and offering me both a water and a familiar beer.
“Leander?” I questioned.
“And Dustin,” Adam said quietly, resting his head on my shoulder. “I know I–”
I turned toward him then, still situated between his outstretched legs. Adam was always the steadfast one, so confident and so sure. His pause definitely wasn’t like him.
“What is it?”
He shook his head. “I know I don’t always offer the words that Dustin does or the comfort that Ollie does, but I hope that my actions, even if we don’t always see eye to eye, show you how much I care.”
I reached for him then, cupping his face. “I know that you love me, Adam. Even if you are a hard-headed alpha sometimes. You may all be triplets, but you’re each individual people who bring different things to the table.”
“I more than love you, firefly. I’m in love with you. I would do anything for you.”
“I know you would, Adam. You mean the world to me, too. And for the record, I wouldn’t change a thing about you.”
And somehow, knowing that he had insecurities, too, made it easier to look forward to the future.
