Chapter Six

KENNA

They’re coming for me.

A manic laugh slips past my lips. With each rock forward my back slams into the headboard of the bed. Each one is more harsh than the previous but the pain does little to break the stare I have on the door. Watching. Waiting.

You think they’d come for a washed up Kingston with no power?

Shut up. Shut up. Shut up! I want to scream and claw at the voice in my head warring with me. It’s almost funny that I’ve started talking to myself but really, it’s predictable. My father is a convicted killer, true or not, and my mother is buried six feet deep. I was bound to break at some point. Why not now?

Ryker and West have to be looking for me. Killer or not we’re bound together by the bonds that made us.

You’re bound to nothing. Not power. Not the foundation. You can’t even break out of a bedroom. You’re useless, who would want you?

Picking at my cuticles, the pinch of breaking the skin barely registers.

I’m trapped in this room until they come. They have to be coming. Ryker’s walls have fallen, showing me how much he cares for me. West hasn’t hated me for a while so even if Ryker had his doubts West wouldn’t let him abandon me.

Right? My eyebrows pull together for a split second.

Right. I concede, giving myself a curt nod, my eyebrows relaxing once more.

And if he does? You have nothing. No one will come after you. Who is looking for you?

Shut up!

My breathing picks up, the inner bitch breaking away at my walls, tearing me down piece by piece. I won’t let her break me. There has to be something left for them to save when they come.

Slam. Pick. Repeat.

You’re losing it, Kenna. Give up, you know it’s what you want. You know deep down that it’s easier to know the truth than believe a lie. We’ve been here before. Lies and truths mixing together in a burning battle.

Wetness streams down my cheeks. My eyes strain from staring at the door but I can’t stop. My body moves on it’s own continuing the onslaught of torture but the mental war inside my head causes the most damage. The blood dripping down my fingers is nothing compared to the screams inside my head.

Stop. Make it stop!

You’ve seen the look in Rykers eyes. The disgust. The hatred. No one is coming, NO ONE.

I said shut the fuck up!

I let out a guttural scream that shakes the walls around me. My hands fly to cover my ears, as if that would silence it, but all it does is keep it trapped inside. My chest heaves from the force. Sobs wrack my body.

Pick.

Rock.

Slam.

Pick… Rock… Slam.

What are you going to do? Shut me out? You can’t get rid of me, I am you.

My pace quickens, blood drips down onto the bed sheets as I see those deep brown eyes turning away from me. No matter how loud I scream or how hard I fight to get to him he still turns his back on me.

I told you. We’re stuck in this room until our corpse rots. It’s just me and you and our empty screams.
