Chapter Twenty-One

KENNA

“Come back to me, Killer.” The voice says, sounding shattered. Begging me.

Behind the fog brown eyes peer into mine searching for something I can’t give him. Faces around the room start to blend together painting a dark masterpiece. Blue hair moves in my peripheral pulling my attention away from the brown eyed God standing above me. Familiar heat skates over my skin with his touch, but the following burn forces me to jerk in his hold. Voices surround me shoving me back into the dazed fog I’m stuck in.

“Ryker move.” One voice says.

Cold hands travel over me probing and searching. My head throbs when fingers press into the center of my head. Black dots appear at the edge of my vision when the throbbing grows.

“Oak!” A voice shouts from far away.

“Shit, here carry her to the SUV.” Warm hands replace the soft cold ones.

Words start to blur together and time stills. I want to call out to him and beg him to forgive me for what they did so he doesn’t turn his back on me too but my mouth is dry.

“Open your eyes for me baby.” That voice says.

My eyes are open, I think to myself. Aren’t they? Clawing through the fog my eyes blink open to bright lights that force a whine from the back of my throat.

“Where is he?”

“The fucking trunk.” A new voice.

“He’s hers to deal with. She’ll want that control when it’s time.”

Pain radiates through my bones. I’m so exhausted I just want to sleep. A light tap jolts my eyes open.

“Keep your eyes open for me.”

Sounds start to warp and change words swirling with footsteps and doors closing. My vision tunnels. Please be quiet. I want to scream but nothing comes out when my lips part.

“Ryker, you need to see this.” Another voice.

How many voices are there? Why can’t I force myself to move?

“Take her to the SUV now.”

More hands. My body jostles, making me cry out.

“Get that fucking thing off of her!”

Hands slide behind my neck tugging and pulling, putting pressure on the sore skin around the metal collar. Tears continue to leak from my eyes soaking my face. A click sounds and my heart stops for a second waiting for the lightning to shoot down my spine but nothing follows. Warm fingers gently open the clasp and peel it away from my neck, the pain blinding, sending me back into darkness. My head rolls to the side meeting a warm chest. Strong arms lift me pulling me in and suddenly I’m no longer on the ground.

Fading in and out I force my eyes open connecting with green eyes.

“We need you, Princess. Come back to us.” His gruff gravelly broken voice rasps.

The pounding in my chest falters. The air in my lungs rushing out with whoosh. Bloody fingers reach out to touch his face. Green eyes water above me. Carrying me towards the door my head rolls to the side watching the way the entire building grows darker with each step as if I was the only thing providing it light. Passing over the threshold a strong smell smacks me in the face. My stomach bubbles and bile tries to force its way up my throat but I choke it down.

“Eyes on me, Princess.” The low gruff voice says.

A light shines through a doorway to my left pulling my attention. Each step closer the smell grows worse and worse, stinging my nose and making my eyes water. He said eyes on him but I can’t pull my stare away from the open doorway. My breathing picks up speed the closer we get. My eyes grow heavier trying to pull me into the darkness but I need to see. Dropping my head to the side I scan the room until I see what everyone is crowded around. A body lies stiff on a metal table naked and torn apart. The sight mixed with the smell sends me over the edge and the shadows finally claim me.
