CHAPTER 18
I t’s mid-morning and all anyone can talk about is the events of the haunted walk last night. The town chat has gone crazy. Everyone thinks it was part of the walk and are wondering what is planned for tonight. Through the family chat, it was decided that all of us witches would be out and about tonight, split between the haunted walk, the haunted house and the funfair.
The shop door opens and the bell jingles, Sly and his family walk in.
I smile their way and walk over to see them. “Have you recovered from last night’s adventures?”
“It was so much fun,” Enoch says, smiling brightly.
His fear of me seems to have gone thank goodness.
“The scarecrows came alive and tried killing people with their swords. They could only be destroyed when they were injured and when they blew up. Straw went everywhere and the headless horseman hologram tried to kill Ebby, but he was saved by another witch and then Sly collected up all the straw and made this amazing bear,” as Enoch talked, he waved his arms around.
I laugh along with his brothers. “It’s a shame I missed it. I hope you have a photo of the bear.”
He shakes his head. “We can get one for you later though, Sly really did make an amazing bear. I mean it looks like a straw bear and not a real bear, but it’s incredible.”
“Then I can’t wait to see it,” I look at Sly and Ebby. “My family will be out and about tonight, covering the walk, the house and the funfair. If you want to join us you’re very welcome.”
“We could. We want to talk to Cam and see if we can have another look at the house today then tonight, we can leave the boys at the B&B and join you,” Ebby said.
“You can always drop the boys at ours. Emily, my mother-in-law, is looking after Connie and Nora tonight for us. Connie’s a baby and Nora broke her arm yesterday. There will be unhealthy snacks and films. Nix and Cam are looking after her at the moment, but I can contact Adhan and have him show you around the Myers house again,” I offer.
Ebby shakes his head. “I’m sure the mayor has enough going on today without having to show us around the house. We can see it tomorrow.”
“Are you sure? He really won’t mind. He told Cam he would cover things for him today. Plus, we all want you to move here, so he’ll happily show you around and if you have any more concerns about us witches or the town, he can hopefully put them to rest for you before the BBQ.”
The brothers are smiling when the bell jingles and Adhan walks in.
“As if by magic Adhan appears,” I say, smiling happily at him. “Hi babe. The brothers would like another look at the Myers house,” I tell him.
“We can wait until tomorrow when Cam is back at work, we know you’re busy,” Ebby says quickly.
Adhan shakes his head. “Never too busy to show you the house. I need to pop back and get the keys, I can meet you there in ten minutes if that would work.”
“That would totally work,” Xander answers for the brothers.
Adhan smiles at him. “A little excited to see it again?”
“Totally. We’ve been travelling around forever, and that house hugged us. I didn’t know houses did that.” Xander replied.
“In that case, let me go and get the keys,” Adhan says. He gives me a quick kiss and leaves the shop.
“We’ll come back and see you when we finish to arrange tonight,” Ebby says.
“I’ll be here. Mind you Adhan might talk to you about tonight as well.”
“We’ll help however we can,” Sly says. “But now we need to go.”
“You do. Good luck with the second viewing.” I say and with a final wave, they leave the shop.
A few moments later Justice and Alfred come walking in, chatting happily.
“Hey Pops, how’s your day going?” Alfred says grinning at me like a loon and walking over to the counter.
I shake my head at him.
“Might as well get used to it Pops, the name’s sticking,” Justice says with a smile.
“I’m gonna make the bats attack you later,” I tell him.
They both burst out laughing.
“And I’m sure I can create killer ghosts to retaliate,” he replies.
“Nice one doc. I hope I get to see them.”
“Patrol the haunted house and you’ll see them.”
“Oh, what a shame, I’m looking after the haunted walk,” I say, going for a forlorn look, I wonder if I pulled it off.
“I can walk the walk with you, killer ghosts will be fun on the walk as well.”
I burst out laughing. “I’ll walk the walk with you, I’ve gotta see killer ghosts. I mean, I missed out on killer scarecrows, so they’ll be the next best thing.”
“Temp has already added them to the website,” Alfred tells me.
“I love that website,” I say.
The other two agree.
“Right, I’m off to see patients. I’ll see you both at home later,” Justice says.
“I’ll come and find you once I’ve closed the shop,” Alfred says, pulling Justice into a kiss.
Justice wraps his arms around Alfred and kisses him back.
I should pull out the scorecards and rate them, but I shake my head, if they start stripping each other I’m gonna squirt them with my bottle instead. I shrug to myself, why wait? I pick up my bottle and squirt them both, multiple times.
They pull back and glare at me.
“I can’t believe you just did that,” Alfred says, sounding shocked, and wiping the side of his face.
“What? I don’t want to see my stepson and his husband making out like teenagers, thanks very much.”
“Just you wait until you and Adhan have a moment and see what I do,” Justice tells me. “And you two have lots of moments, you’ll never know when I’ll strike and on that happy note, I’m off,” Justice says, touching Alfred’s cheek and walking out of the shop.
“Wait, you can’t do that,” I call out after him.
Justice ignores me and leaves the shop doing a really good impression of an evil laugh.
“I’m going to get coffee and cake and I’m not bringing you any,” Alfred says, spinning around and walking in the direction of the tearoom.
“But I love you,” I call after him.
“Bite me,” he snaps out.
