CHAPTER 38
W e arrive at the fair. We’ve all dressed up in Halloween costumes for the night. As soon as we all got home, we changed so we were ready for the children's Trick or Treating.
Both Nora and Connie, are in their matching wolf costumes and they look so cute. Lots of pictures were taken of them and all of us. I think we all had fun striking different poses and we all look amazing.
Titus and Kean are Beetlejuice and Lydia , with Kean in the red wedding dress. I secretly think he really does like the dress.
Temp and Ben are dressed as Ghostbusters , complete with the proton packs.
Nix and Cam are dressed as The Blues Brothers , they actually look good in the suits and hats.
Sal and Jude are dressed as Thor and Loki , both of them rocking the looks, although it’s weird seeing Jude with long hair. Jude is carrying his hammer and Sal a staff, plus he’s wearing the weird headdress.
Alfred and Justice are dressed as Gru and Kevin the Minion . And the best bit is, Justice is the minion. I have no idea how Alfred talked Justice into that!
Adhan is dressed as a pirate, and he is seriously rocking the look. I’m dressed as a Captain from the 1800’s British Navy.
Emily is dressed as a Victorian lady in the most amazing royal blue riding outfit.
My parents made me laugh when they turned up. Ma was dressed as a 1920’s flapper, and Pa as a 1920’s gangster.
Ebby, Sly and the boys are dressed up as characters from Star Wars. Sly is Han Solo , Ebby is Luke Skywalker , Xander is Kylo Ren and Enoch is Yoda.
Sion and Cass are dressed up as cowboys.
Clarence and Callum came as Day of the Dead characters.
I was surprised how many children knocked on the front door. It was fun seeing them in their costumes as we handed out sweets. I thought kids liked being ghosts or witches, but I’ve not seen one ghost costume yet, I have seen a lot of witches though.
It always makes me laugh, that we teach children to never accept sweets from a stranger and then Halloween comes around and they get sweets from strangers.
Nix and Cam took Nora, Xander and Enoch out trick or treating and they all had great fun.
I’m glad the boys feel safe with all of us now. And of course, the boys and Nora had to show Pa their haul.
But now here we are at the fair. We’re going to take some rides, then walk the haunted walk. I’m not sure I have it in me to walk through the haunted house, to be honest. I’m sure no one will mind.
We also didn’t have dinner this evening, everyone opting for totally unhealthy fair food.
As a family we've decided to ride the ghost train together, so we go and queue up.
Elliot is walking past and laughs when he sees our costumes. “It’s a shame there isn’t an award for best fancy dress. Pretty sure Kean would win hands down.”
“Look I’m a bell,” Kean says, swishing from side to side, making us all laugh.
“Are you joining us on the ride?” I ask him.
“You know what? I think I will,” Elliot replies.
The train carts start coming out of the tunnel and as people get out, the family starts going in.
Sly, Ebby and the boys are in the first one. Adhan, Emily, Elliot and I take the next one.
Before we even head off, I send a bit of magic into the tunnel. From the corner of my eye, I see Temp sending magic out and pretty sure Sly did as well. I’d be surprised if the others don’t. This should be an interesting ride and a moment later our cart starts moving.
I burst out laughing when I hear Sly, Ebby and the boys yell and then laugh.
I turn back and look at Elliot. “Some of us might have sent magic into the tunnel.”
Elliot bursts out laughing. “I’d expect nothing less.”
“I would have been disappointed if you hadn’t,” Emily says, laughing.
Our carriage goes into the tunnel. We all yelp as we’re doused in water. What the hell!
“I’m gonna find out who did that and get them back,” I grump out.
I hear the brothers laughing from up ahead. Now my money is on Sly. I send my magic out to cover him in slime, as ghosts suddenly appear and fly through us. I’m not the only one who gasps at that, but the ghosts dried us, so I’m not complaining.
I hear Ebby and his brothers laughing and Xander saying. “You got slimed.”
“Take pictures,” I shout out to them.
“Ernest, it’s so on,” Sly calls back laughing.
I look at Adhan. “That was an evil laugh, wasn’t it?” I don’t wait for a reply. “My bad, anyway it wasn’t me it was Justice.”
Justice, Alfred, Temp and Ben are in the carriage behind us.
“What did I do?” Justice calls as they come into the tunnel also all yelping when they are doused in water.
“Slimed Sly,” I shout back, turning round and smiling back at him.
“Really?” he replies with an evil grin.
“Umm maybe,” I say quickly, turning round and grabbing Adhan’s hand. “Save me?” I beg.
Adhan looks at me and laughs. “Oh sweetheart,” he says, shaking his head.
Emily and Elliot haven’t stopped laughing.
Something drops into my lap. I look down and let out a scream of terror. The biggest chuffin’ spider I have ever seen is now on my lap. “Get off, get off, get off,” I yell as I try and bat this thing away. Seriously a spider. I bet that was Temp. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s magicked up a spider for me.
I manage to fling it away and using magic to send it to Temp, making it bigger, hairier and scarier looking if that was even possible.
Temp screams, especially when I made the spider explode all over him, covering him in glitter.
“I hate you so much right now Ernie ,” Temp yells.
“But you’re so sparkly Tink,” Ben says, laughing his fool head off.
I turn back around and look at the scary attractions. I love this tunnel, this part looks like an old dungeon, with fake stone walls and sections with different attractions.
I laugh when I see a quartet of Grim Reapers playing instruments made out of bones, in what looks like a music room.
Our carriage suddenly comes to a stop and the Reapers walk over and surround our cart, before they start singing, “Baby Shark.”
“Oh dear gods, make them stop,” Emily pleads.
As the Reapers sing, ‘ doo-doo ’ they point bones at us, covering us in silly string.
Elliot finally makes them move away from us and we start moving again.
I see the brothers’ carriage start moving and Sly ‘high-fiving the others.
I magic up little cherubs, both for them and Temp’s cart. Temp’s cart cherubs start singing, “It’s a small world,” and Sly’s cart cherubs sing, “ Cotton Eye Joe .”
The only problem with that is we are in the middle of those two carriages.
Adhan looks at me trying not to laugh. “Really, sweetheart?”
“Yeah, didn’t really think that one through,” I say, shaking my head.
“I think my ears are starting to bleed,” Alfred shouts.
I look to Sly and the others and they are happily seat dancing. Mind you, it might be a completely awful song, but it is dance worthy.
Suddenly there is blissful silence as someone makes those cherubs disappear. That silence is broken by a really loud scream of terror, making more than just me jump.
“Yeah that gets everyone,” Elliot says happily.
I give a start when our cart starts going up an incline.
“Well this is new,” Elliot says. “I’m glad I decided to join you.”
I turn and grin at him.
“Woah,” I heard Enoch shout.
I turn back and see him leaning over the side of the cart.
“The track’s falling away,” he shouts.
I see them look over the side of their cart as I look over ours, and yes as we incline upwards the track looks to be falling down, into the abyss. It looks dark down there and shimmery. Maybe that’s water.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who jumps as a pod of dolphins leap out of the water and over our carts.
“Wow.” I hear Emily say as the dolphins keep up their display.
Suddenly from behind we hear a yell. I turn round to look, as do Adhan, Elliot and Emily. A large tentacle has wrapped around their cart and seems to be shaking it from side to side.
“I love this bit,” Elliot says happily. “The dolphins were a nice touch though. I might have to keep them.”
I see a tentacle wrap around the middle of our cart and now we’re being shaken. Once the shaking stops it feels like we’re flying.
We fly through a doorway, and I turn back round to see what’s about to appear.
“We’re in space?” I say happily. “This ghost train is awesome, Elliot.”
“And there is still more to see,” he replies.
