Chapter 26

Twenty-Six

SUNNY

I slam the payphone down and turn, ready to get this over with. I’m determined, and nothing, and I do mean nothing, is going to stop me. As I walk out of the bus station, I place my ball cap back on my head. I'm just about to put my hood back up, but I hear a yell.

“Hey, Bitch! You think you can have all the fun without us?” Halle screams as she leans out the window of her jeep, smiling excitedly. I gasp before making my way toward the car. I notice Piper in the passenger seat and Izzy in the back.

“What are you guys doing here?” I ask, surprised.

“We’re your backup girl! No one goes into a firefight without backup. Especially our sister,” Piper says, turning and staring at me. I can see the worry on her face, so I try to give her a reassuring smile. I turn to look at Izzy. She has her arms crossed and is looking at the opposite window. I touch her shoulder to get her attention, and when she turns my way, I see pure anger on her face.

“Are you okay, Izzy?” I ask her.

“No, no, I am not fucking okay. One of my best friends decided to leave the safety of the compound ALONE and chase after a maniac. You know he tortured Comp, right? What if you got caught? What if he hurt you? Or worse, killed you? I am so mad at you!” she tells me, fuming. I try to hold the smile in, but it slips past.

“I’ve never had anyone but Paisley and Milani. They are the only ones to ever love, care for, and stick by me. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, ladies. You all are truly my best friends, and I shouldn’t have kept it from you,” I tell them, looking at each one and getting a smile in return. I look to Izzy last, hoping some of the anger has faded. She sighs before pulling me into a quick hug.

“Alright, now that the sweet shit is over, let's get this party started,” Halle says, cranking the jeep.

“Alright! Piper, you go over the plan one more time,” Izzy says, turning toward the front.

“Wait? Plan?” I ask them. They all smile evilly at me.

“We had a four-hour trip to plan out the best way to make this bastard pay,” Piper says, and Halle floors it.

The girls tell me the plan on the way, which, if I'm being honest, isn’t much of a plan anyway, but I didn’t have much of a plan in the first place. I decide their way is twice the fun though, so we’ll go with it. It doesn’t take us more than fifteen minutes to get to Jason's house. I grab my bag as Halle pulls a case from the backseat. We make our way up to the front door, and I stop.

“Shit, I forgot! What about Kerry? She will probably be here. She’s a bitch, but she doesn’t deserve this shit,” I tell the girls, chewing on my thumbnail.

“Oh, the fiance, don’t worry. I took care of that,” Halle says with an evil smile.

“What did you do?” I ask her, not sure if I want to know or not.

“I may have called her and told her Jason was at the police station being questioned, and she was needed there to bail him out,” she answers, shrugging.

“Oh, that’s not too bad… but it will probably only keep her away a couple hours, tops,” I say, getting nervous again.

“Tell her the rest,” Piper admonishes while Halle sighs.

“I called the cops and told them she was part of a drug deal gone wrong. That she shot a guy and killed them…” Halle fades off.

“Annndddd…” Izzy drawls out.

“And she had illegal drugs stuffed up her ass,” Halle says, and I gasp before Halle looks at me and the rest of the women. “What? I had to keep her busy for a while. That should give us at least twenty-four hours to be in and out of town with no one the wiser.”

“Oh, god, Halle. Remind me to never piss you off,” I say, turning back to Jason’s front door. I look around the fancy, pompous neighborhood. I thought about the easiest way to get in. My original plan was to knock on the door, hold the gun out, and shove him inside. But looking around now, I have a feeling Jason’s comfort and cockiness are going to be the end of him. I try the handle and find the door unlocked.

“The fucker doesn’t even lock the door? He’s asking to be taken out,” Piper whispers, shaking her head.

“He feels safe in this town. Untouchable.” I shrug, thanking his stupidity. Makes our job so much easier. We sneak silently into the house. I have my gun drawn, loaded, and pointed toward the floor. I see Halle and Piper are both in the same position. Izzy’s holding the gun like it might bite her, and I would laugh if it wouldn’t give us away. I hear a noise coming from the kitchen. I place my finger on my mouth and look at the girls before gesturing to the kitchen, and they all nod.

I peek around the corner to the kitchen and see only Jason standing there drinking orange juice straight from the carton. Fucker. I wait until he’s done and walk across the back wall toward the backdoor before I stand straight up, walk into the kitchen with the gun in my hand, and pull off my hood and my cap.

“Hello, Jason,” I say, lifting the gun up to him. He turns in surprise before a look of recognition, and then anger crosses his face.

“Sunny! What the fuck are you doing here? Coming back to beg for forgiveness?” he asks, trying to play off his fear at the gun in his face with a smirk.

“Quite the opposite. I came here to finish this once and for all,” I tell him, cocking the gun. His eyes shoot wide before he looks around for an exit, but there’s nowhere for him to go.

“You wouldn’t kill me. You’re too sweet, too nice. You don’t have it in you to take a life,” he says, turning back to me with a triumphant smile. I start to say something, but I hear movement behind me.

“That’s what she has us for, fucker!” Halle says, laughing and coming up to my side.

“Plus, I don’t know if I would bargain on that first bit there, bud. You fucked with her kid, you fucked with our club, and you fucked with her man. She’s pretty much over all your shit,” Piper tells him, coming to my other side.

“Your man? Who the fuck is your man? You fucking whore! Who are you bringing around my daughter?” Jason demands, getting heated.

“Her father. Her real father,” I say nice and slow. I can see the look on his face. He’s furious I’ve moved on. He’s pissed I have someone that makes me happy. I’m going to make sure he gets every little detail of our lives together. Especially the juicy bits.

“The one you tried to kill and carve up. That one was her man, so I’d watch the tone,” Izzy says, slowly making her way into the kitchen. Jason bursts out laughing at Izzy's comment.

“You mean the scarred-up ugly fucker? That’s the one you’re with?” he taunts. I see fucking red. I want to shoot him in the head, but I also want to take my nice sweet time with him.

“Yeah, but you should see his dick. I only got a glimpse when I walked in that time on him rearranging Sunny’s guts. But let me just tell you…” Halle whistles as she takes her hands, holds them open wide, and makes a gesture that Nix’s dick is about three feet long.

“Bitch,” Jason growls before taking a step our way and raising a hand. Lightning fast, Halle draws a knife from her side and throws it like a dart at Jason. He screams as I watch the knife go through the palm of his hand to the hilt, then land in the wall, pinning him there. She quickly throws two more, hitting his legs and pinning him to the wall by the pant legs.

“You’re fucking crazy! Do you know who I am? Get this shit off me now!” Jason yells. The minute his hand leaves the knife, he's trying to pull from the wall. Halle uses her shot to pin his other hand to the wall beside his head. He screams bloody murder… and I enjoy it way too much.

“Alright, I think it's time I get a turn. Halle, can I see one of those knives?” I ask. Halle smirks before handing one to me.

“Sunny, baby, please. I’m sorry for everything. We can still get through this; we can be a family this time. Me, you, and Pais…” he starts, but I throw the knife right through his thigh before he can finish.

“Don’t you dare say my daughter's name,” I tell him.

“Is it my turn for target practice yet?” Piper asks.

“Oh, I want a go!” Izzy cheers. So, we take turns throwing Halle’s beautiful knives through the fucker pinned to the wall until we run out. Damn, I need me a set of these.

“We ran out of knives,” Piper pouts, ignoring the moaning and yelling coming from Jason.

“Where's the silverware drawer?” Halle asks, walking toward the drawers and cabinets. She starts snooping through the whole place.

“What, are we going to throw spoons at him next?” Izzy asks.

“No, but butter knives are dull and will hurt like a bitch. I imagine forks would feel the same.” Halle grins before finding what she's looking for and dumping the silverware at our feet.

“The only thing missing is some drinks,” Piper says, bending for a steak knife.

“Look what I just found!” Halle singsongs, pulling a bottle of fireball from the cabinet.

We all look at each other before throwing our hands in the air and screaming, “Shots!”

I understand a little bit more why Nix chose this life of violence. Protecting the innocent and removing the utter trash from this world is addicting… and I think I have a problem. I'm an addict.
