CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

RAINEY

R ainey gripped Daddy’s shirt. Who else was here?

“You must be Deccan,” Daddy said as he let go of her and pushed her behind him.

Holding his shirt tighter, she buried her head into his back. When Daddy showed up, she didn’t think Echo had actually contacted Deccan. She figured it was just a ploy to see if she would go and Daddy would come and get her.

“You must be Marco, and behind you must be Rainey.”

A shiver ran through her body. His voice was void of any emotion. How did she think she could do this all by herself? Daddy was right next to her; she was shaking as he took control of everything.

“Rainey, get in the car.”

“If she does, someone will get hurt die.”

Her eyes went wide as she pushed herself closer to Daddy. She was going to have to disobey Daddy this time.

“Who the fuck is in the car?”

“Leo, he works with me. I can tell him to go home if you want.”

“Call him and tell him. Neither one of you is fucking moving until I tell you.”

Rainey was pretty sure even if he told her to move, she wouldn’t. She hadn’t seen what he looked like, but she knew he was scary.

Daddy pulled out his phone and called Leo. “You can leave. We’ve got everything handled here. Yep, I’ll drive Rainey’s car home. Mm-hm. Bye.”

They sat in silence; the suspense was killing her. What did he look like? Was he as scary as he sounded?

Before she could stop her feet from moving, she found herself letting go of Daddy’s shirt and walking to the side of him. The first thing she noticed was how big Deccan was.

Rainey quickly looked around, trying to see where his bike was parked, but she didn’t see anything. How had he got there? Did he walk the whole way? How long had he been there?

She looked back at him, only to see his eyes staring at her stomach. Did Echo not tell him she was pregnant?

“Rainey!” Daddy scolded her. “You stay behind me at all times right now.”

He gripped her arm tight as Deccan looked at him.

“Let go of her.”

Her eyes went wide, but Daddy’s hand didn’t let go of her.

“You stay behind me. If he draws his gun, I get hit first. You never walk to the side or in front of Daddy. Do you understand?”

She nodded but continued to look at Deccan. His hand was inching toward his gun, and her heart rate was beating faster as she saw everything unfolding in front of her. His hand raised, gun pointing at Daddy.

“Let her go!” Deccan raised his voice.

“Shit. Deccan. It’s okay!” she yelled, breaking free from Daddy’s hold.

With her arms raised, she stepped right in front of Daddy, completely ignoring his words. She didn’t want Deccan to shoot him.

“Daddy, stay behind me.”

“Little girl,” he growled.

Deccan lowered his gun.

“Deccan, give us a second?” Daddy asked.

He nodded and watched them.

“Turn around right now, Rainey.”

“Go on, Little one. Do as your Daddy says.”

Rainey turned around, and Daddy landed several swats on her bottom.

“Owie,” she whined as she rubbed her bottom. “Why?”

“I told you to stay behind me, yet when he points a gun at me, you go to shield me. Rainey, I told you several weeks ago to do as I say if we were both in danger.”

She had decided to completely go against everything Daddy had said. She just didn’t want him to get hurt, especially when Deccan might not have known who he was. What if he hurt him because Deccan thought Daddy was some random person?

“I know, but I wanted him to know you were with me,” she whispered .

“Deccan knows. You have called me Daddy several times, and I’m pretty sure he was here for a lot of our conversation before he spoke.”

Rainey sighed. There was no way of getting out of this. She had broken her safety rule once again. Two times in one night. How many more rules was she going to break?

“When I tell you to do something, you do it. Especially when it’s in a situation like this, if anything ever happened to you, I would never forgive myself. You and our baby are my life.”

“Sorry, Daddy.”

He kissed her forehead. “I know, Little girl. That’s another tally to your punishment when we get home.”

Rainey whined, stomping her foot as she looked at him. “Daddy.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Stomp your foot again, and your punishment will be worse.”

She was about to raise her foot, feeling defiant, but Deccan stopped her.

“I wouldn’t, Little one. I bet you won’t be sitting for a week and your hand will be aching from lines would be my guess. Do you want to add more?”

She turned around and glared at him, pushing the thought of him being scary to the back of her mind.

“Now, since your Daddy has scolded you, let’s continue our conversation. I have places to be, people to watch.”

“Echo?”

He hummed, not answering the question.

“Ju-just be careful. I know it’s n-not my place to say anything, but just please be careful with her,” Rainey softly spoke.

Deccan tilted his head as if he was trying to figure her out. She may not know Echo well, but that didn’t mean she wanted something bad to happen to her. She was a sweet girl.

“Why did you want to meet? Echo didn’t tell me anything.”

“She wanted to?—”

“I wasn’t talking to you. If I were, I would have been looking at you. Talk for her again, and I won’t hesitate to shoot you.”

Rainey gasped.

“Don’t fucking test me.”

Daddy wrapped a possessive hand around her body. “Get behind me.”

“She will not be getting behind you. I won’t touch a hair on her body. No harm will be done.”

It didn’t make her feel any better. Sure, it was what Daddy wanted because she would be safe, but that left him to get hurt. If he didn’t say anything, then he wouldn’t.

“Now, Rainey. Why did you want to meet?”

She took a shaky breath in. Ten seconds of courage. That was all she needed to start, and hopefully, after hat it would be easier to talk to him.

“Take your time, and if you need to you can sit in the car while we talk. Get off your feet. I bet those are aching pretty badly.”

Rainey tried to keep her face as neutral as possible. How did he know her feet were hurting so much?

“I’m good at reading people. How about you sit in the back of the trunk while we talk. Give you some space to sit, but be able to see all of us.”

Before she could say anything, Daddy took her hand and turned her around before picking her up.

“Daddy!” she squealed.

“You’re okay. Should’ve done this a while ago.”

Daddy opened the trunk and sat her on it. It was a spacious trunk that connected to the rest of the car.

“Now, since you aren’t on your feet anymore, you can answer my question. Why did you want to meet?”

Daddy placed a hand on her thigh and squeezed it.

“I need to know if someone is in your club,” she whispered.

“Why the fuck do you need to know that?”

“He’s my ex and treated me badly when he first joined.”

“Who?”

“Pete. I don’t know if he has a name he goes by, but Pete was what he told me.”

Deccan hummed.

“I don’t need to know much. I just need to know if he is in town or not. He’s about five-foot-seven, has blond hair and brown eyes. He’s not really muscular, but he has some. I guess he might have joined in the past year. I’m not sure about that, though. He just started changing within the year.”

“What did he do?”

Rainey kept her mouth shut.

“Tell me what he did.”

“He was verbally abusive. ”

“And?” Daddy asked.

Deccan glared at him before looking back at Rainey.

“And toward the end, he physically abused me. When I found out I was pregnant, I left without telling him.”

“And you’ve been laying low ever since.”

“Yes.”

“I’ll look into it and take care of him.”

“Is he here?”

“Yes, he is. He’s part of the club, but you don’t have to worry. We don’t hurt innocent women.”

Before she could stop herself, she started speaking. “He sent me a threatening message today.”

Daddy and Deccan’s bodies stilled.

“What did you just say?”

“He gave my employee a note to give to me. It was threatening.”

“Show me.”

“Show me first,” Daddy said. “Why didn’t you tell me when I got to the coffee shop?”

“I didn’t want you to worry. I had already contacted Echo to see if I could meet with Deccan. I didn’t want you to tell me not to.”

“Better keep a tighter leash on her,” Deccan said as he got closer.

Daddy glared at Deccan before turning back to Rainey.

“Show us.”

Rainey pulled it out of her pocket. It had been burning a hole there all day, but she didn’t want to put it anywhere else. What if someone walked in and saw it? What would they do? She also wanted to bring it with her so she could show Deccan if she needed to.

“What the fuck?” Daddy whispered.

“How do you know it was Pete? Did you see him?” Deccan asked.

“I didn’t see him, but I asked my employee if she sawhim, and she described him to a tee. I don’t want to cause any trouble within your club, but I just needed to know if he was here. I don’t want to be near him at all.”

Deccan placed a hand over hers. “I’ll take care of it. I’ll get back to you in a coupleof days.”

“No, you’ll get in contact with me,” Daddy stated.

She looked between both of them. Deccan was glaring at Daddy.

“It’ll be her, or I’ll break into your house and tell her myself.”

Rainey took Daddy’s hand and squeezed it.

“I’m okay, Daddy. My eyes are only for you, and I’m sure Deccan is interested in Echo.”

“Interested isn’t the right word. More like obsessed.”

She gave Daddy a smile. “See? Obsessed with Echo. Hey!” She turned her head toward Deccan. “Just be careful with her. I know I’ve said it before, and I have no right to say anything but, like, just be careful.”

Deccan held his hand out, and Rainey placed hers in it. Giving her a confused look, he dropped her hand.

“Phone.”

“Oh, right. I knew that. Sorry.”

Deccan turned toward her Daddy. “Does she always say sorry for things she doesn’t need to?”

“Yeah, I’m going to start working on that.”

Deccan hummed as he put his phone number into her phone.

“I’m creating a group chat with your Daddy, so he doesn’t have to feel left out,” Deccan informed her before turning to her Daddy. “You answer for her, and we’ll have problems.”

“What if I’ve gotten my phone privileges taken away?” Rainey asked. “Or what if I was taking a nap and it was urgent? Do you really want Daddy to wake me up?”

That wasn’t one of her punishments, getting her phone taken away, but she wanted to create reasons in case Daddy did reply, he wouldn’t get hurt.

“No, he can reply if he knows the answer, but it won't end well if it becomes a thing.”

Deccan handed her phone back and started to walk away.

“That was intense,” she whispered as she leaned into Daddy’s embrace. “So intense.”

“You did so well.”

“I don’t know what his deal is with me answering. Kind of weird if you ask me.”

Extremely weird. She didn’t understand his reasoning, but she wouldn’t question it. Deccan had threatened Daddy several times.

“Let’s get you home.”

“And to bed?”

“After your punishment, we can snuggle and go to bed.”
