CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

A ll his army had stopped fighting. They had everyone captured anyway, so it was silent when Lucifer spoke. “You drive a hard bargain, my Queen. It’ll be a useful asset against our enemies.” With a sigh he continued. “I agree to your terms. Cut your palm with that fancy blade of yours and say, I give my demon fully to you Lucifer Morningstar and only you. Then, everyone else is free to go. None of my people or anyone else with my knowledge will touch them again. Of course, I’ll make a blood oath as well to satisfy my Queen.”

Everything he said was a win for my side, except for me. If I did this everyone would have a life. Not one stuck in a dungeon, being starved and tortured, but a real life. Who was I to stand in the way of that?

I removed the blade from my neck and sliced my palm as quick as I could before I backed out. I might be sacrificing myself for my loved ones, but myself preservation was still there. It was screaming for me to refuse. To be selfish and not care about anyone. Drained of magic like I was, a slash on the throat would free me.

I didn’t understand the first time I watched the Night Duty ceremony. How the chosen six didn’t at least try to fight. They chose to end their life instead because that was their form of freedom. They took back their power by not playing the game. That was exactly what I wanted to do.

My thoughts were disturbed at cry on the stage. My eyes drifted to my parents. They were so beat, but they still fought. Several demons had to run on stage to stop them from running to me. My dads thrashed in the arms that held them. My mom lifted her hand toward me and shook her head. The tears matched mine as they stung my eyes.

They had suffered enough. It was my turn to take on this burden. I opened my mouth.

“I give my demon fully to you?—”

“Stop!” The rumble of a deep voice that I knew too well had me freezing. My heart skipped a beat. With a gust of air, dark shadow beasts swarmed the area. A sharp breath escaped my lips.

“Kain?” I whispered. My mouth dropped as tears blurred my vision. A wave of utter relief repaired my broken heart.

My mate had come. He was here. Love poured into my soul from him. I stood, ready to run to my Kain.

“No! You’re mine. Finish the binding, or I’ll kill your parents, right now,” Lucifer demanded as he stomped my way.

Smokey’s rottweiler and bear form appeared at my hip growling in warning at Lucifer. The sound rippled across my skin. Even I wanted to step back, but of course, I didn’t. This was my dog, and he wouldn’t hurt me.

Lucifer turned sharply to the stage. “Kill them!”

“No!” I cried out. My heartrate slammed into my chest as if it wanted to escape and save them.

I moved to run to save my parents, but before I took three steps, a flash of light had me stopping in my tracks. My heart stuttered, not knowing what was going on. Did someone just kill them? Did I just sacrifice my parents for my freedom?

“Late to the party, I see. The rock prison was harder to get through than I realized. But I brought some friends, so all is forgiven.” My uncle, with a shit ton of people behind him stood in between my parents and Lucifer’s people. “Meet my friends.” He put his hand on the side of his mouth to pretend to whisper. “They’re the Fae army here to fight for Queen Ivy!”

Those words must have been some kind of code because the shit hit the fan. A true war had broken out. Shadow beasts emerged from everywhere attacking Lucifer, all at once.

Lucifer’s demons swarmed in as steadily as the Fae. Most of them were like my shifted form. Ivory skin or a heavy black as if they had to be exact opposites. Every Fae had dark hair. Mixed with their dark green clothes, it was easy to tell them apart. Despite their grace and the fluid way they fought together, they ripped into the demons with a ferocity.

Kain appeared in front of me. The worry in his black gaze made the back of my eyes sting. I blinked to clear my vision. “My Kain. Please tell me I’m not dreaming.” My heavy head plopped onto his chest.

“I’m here, mate.” He squeezed me tighter.

I sucked in his beautiful whisky scent. “I thought I’d never get to say goodbye.”

He growled at my words. “I told you that I’d come back for you.”

I held him tighter. “It was real?”

He nodded and kissed the top of my head. “Piper, Anton, and your uncle set this all up, they just had their timing off. The seer wasn’t as all-knowing as I thought. Your uncle pulled me back to my body.”

I was crying in my delirious state. I felt so vulnerable, it was a fucking horrible feeling. Kain pulled my hair, so I’d meet his eyes. “As much as I want to hold you in my arms forever, I need you to feed, Poison. We can deal with everything else later.”

I shook my head. “No, I can only feed on my people. I can’t weaken them.”

“The fuck you can’t. Besides, our sexy asses are strong enough to handle a little Succubus feeding.” My head snapped toward the voice. It was Marnie in a pretty warrior outfit that fucking sparkled. My demon was envious. She wanted to sparkle as well.

Piper with a few men at her side, Anton as well. That was where he went. He knew about this extra force. Why didn’t they warn me? I still gave them a thankful grin at their smiling faces.

Piper stepped slightly forward to speak. “It’s time I repay the favor you gave me by lending me your outfit. My mates and I will feed you. Just don’t touch them.” Her teasing smile was beautiful. She had already paid me back by helping me with this war, but I could see in her eyes, it wasn’t enough for her. She still felt indebted to me.

Then, my breath caught on a purple-haired woman standing next to my brother. Vivian. She was more tanned now. The responsibilities of running the Haven had aged her in a good way. The mature look was becoming on her.

“Hey, Master, I mean friend.” She winked at me, and I about burst into tears. If I could run to them I would, but my legs didn’t want to put in the work.

I could hear Lucifer’s shouts as he fought Kain’s shadows. I welcomed the reprieve. The weight lifted off me when my uncle and a few Fae moved to protect my parents as well. My other mates made sure the fallen people got back up. I could breathe again.

“It’s time to feed, Ivy. Take as much as you need. We have people to carry us away. Just kill that ass-wipe. We have tons more life to live, sis, I need you to fight. Okay,” Zar said. It was so great to see him. I wanted to run to him and give him a hug.

I was emotional in my delirious state. All I wanted to do was curl into a ball and cry. Happy tears, but still. It was a ridiculous feeling.

“Now, my Poison. My shadows can’t distract Lucifer forever.” Kain turned me in his arms, so I was facing them.

With their permission my demon didn’t wait long before reaching out to my friends and seeping my pink magic inside of them. Their moans only encouraged her. I pulled on their arousal. The sweet taste of lust landed on my tongue, instantly dissolving like cotton candy. I moaned alongside them.

I opened the bonds, so I fed the energy through me to them as well. It was more than enough to share. We all needed the boost.

Fuck, that feels good! Dex hummed through the bond, happy to feel me again.

‘Bout time you showed up, Kain. We were having tons of fun. I wouldn’t want you to have missed it. Bones was frustrated and mad at himself, but it just made his determination twice as mighty.

Thank you, mate. I was getting so tired my fur felt heavy. Alaric’s wolf felt like a hot cup of tea inside of him. Comforting, but also easy to spill. No wonder shifters had issues controlling their animals.

Trigger was the last to speak, but I could feel his anger towards me. Time to win this shit. I thought that was all he would say before he continued. And don’t for a second think you’re not in trouble, my Dreamgirl. You don’t get to sacrifice yourself. Ever. I’m going to tie you up and duct tape a vibrator to your clit until you break. Then, I’ll rebuild you to never do that again.

As much as I agree with you, brother, let’s worry about the fight first. Make your way to us. We’re going after Lucifer together, Kain demanded, giving me chills. I liked it better when he was in charge.

I pulled one more time on my friends’ energy, then dropped the connection. I winced at the scene in front of me. All of them were in some type of lust filled rut. Their mind wouldn’t function again until they had their fill. Thankfully with clothes on, but that wouldn’t last long, and I didn’t need to see that.

The people who had been chosen to drag them away appeared behind their dry humping forms. They guided them away from the fighting, so they could have some privacy. Marnie took notice and pounced on one of the men, but he didn’t mind, going with her lead and smashing his lips onto hers. I was just glad they’d be gone before things got too far along because ew.

By the time I glanced back at the battle still going on, my mates were surrounding me. The Fae had brought the fight and were giving Lucifer’s demon’s a run for their money. I smiled and grabbed the hand of the two men closest to me. Kain and Trigger, the rush and high of a great fucking feed made me feel like I was floating. I was still completely in control, though.

The shadows opened up with a blast of fire from Lucifer. I had no sense of time while feeding, but it couldn’t have been too long. I looked up just in time to see Lucifer cast a light spell, sending Kain’s shadow beasts away.

He roared his victory. Those now blazing red eyes snapped in our direction. My mates had their daggers out, so I called mine as well. The full set would energize us and strengthen our attacks.

“I told you to never use those fucking shadows on me!” His disheveled hair blew in the wind making his face darker than what seemed natural. “Now, I'm going to pull them from your flesh one by one until there are no shadows left inside of you!”

Yeah, over my dead body, and now that I had all of my mates back, I didn’t plan on dying tonight.

Let's do this together. Kain and I will attack from the front. Trigger and Alaric you did well fighting together, so you will be our surprise attack. Keep others away from us. When he least expects it, that's when you show up to be the last hit of the hammer. Dex and Bones you get him from either side. Don’t let his arm swing too far back because that's when he uses powerful hits of magic. You guys good with that?

Definitely, Dex agreed. The hum of power he siphoned from me gave him a type of high that was close to mine.

Let's watch him bleed. Wolf boy and I are craving for a taste, Trigger said while he flipped around one of his daggers, practically drooling with the thought.

I have your back, Poison. Kain squeezed my hand. I could feel his excitement and determination through the bond. The power that rippled off of him served us well as his shadows helped the Fae tackle this massive army. Kain had an army now too.

The others didn’t say anything, but I felt their confirmation through the bond. This way felt right. I gave them some sort of direction, but they would still have to work together and choose an attack.

Without saying another word, we took off in a run, charging Lucifer. His eyes widened in surprise, but the malicious grin of satisfaction was still there. He didn’t think that we could win this, but my hope had returned. He was going down. Even if I had to go with him.
