CHAPTER SEVEN
Everleigh
Tossing and turning for what seemed like the hundredth time since Leo had settled me in bed and made me promise to call if I needed him, I sat up. My bed and pajamas were soaked. Had I sweated through my clothes? I pressed my hand to the back of my head. Still burning up with fever. Tears poured down my cheeks. I couldn’t stay in bed like this, but I couldn’t seem to move. Defeated, uncomfortable, and delirious with fever, I texted Leo.
Me
I’m really sick, Daddy.
My phone buzzed with a reply.
Leo
On my way, babygirl.
Sighing, I brushed away tears with the back of my hand. Leo was coming and he would make it all better.
As soon as he arrived, Leo went into Daddy mode, gave me a quick bath and changed my sheets. Though I’d awakened him at three in the morning, he was patient, gentle, and kind just like a Daddy should be.
“Where are your pajamas, Leelee?”
I shrugged. For once, I wasn’t battling. Leo opened drawer after drawer in the dresser next to my bed. He dropped a camisole, plain pink panties, soft flannel pants and a diaper next to me. I touched the camisole and the diaper. The outfit would place me deeper into my Little space. That headspace would allow me to let go of everything. Leo set the cami over my head, pulling my arms through and smoothing it over my body.
“We’re going to see how high your fever is, sweetheart. Then I’ll give you some medication and you can get some rest.”
“If you can just help me get dressed, I’ll go straight to bed.”
“Did you get any sleep at all tonight?”
“Um, not really.”
“In that case, we’re going to do things my way.”
Leo plucked an odd-looking device from my nightstand. Upon closer inspection I saw it was a digital thermometer with a blunt tip. It didn’t take a genius to connect the dots. I wanted nothing to do with it. “I wanna go to sleep.”
“Roll onto your tummy please.”
“I’d rather not,” I protested softly. The tip barely appeared to be about a half inch. I’d barely feel the intrusion but I wasn’t eager to cooperate.
“I placated your non-compliance in the clinic, but we are no longer there.”
“No, thank you.”
“It will only take a minute.”
“I don’t want you to use the thermometer in your hand.”
“One.”
I stared at him for a moment. He’d been more than patient. Driving over in the middle of the night to take care of me without issue. He also hadn’t mentioned the title I threw at him via text message. I shouldn’t fight him over this one small thing, but I couldn’t seem to stop myself.
“You already know I’m sick, there’s no reason you need a number!”
“There are many reasons.”
“Nuh-uh!”
“Two.”
Tears threatened to spill. I never cried as much as I had the past few weeks. It was like all the things I’d kept inside when Jett left came bubbling to the surface. Being sick on top of the craziness at the clinic and my budding romance with Leo was overwhelming.
“Daddy!”
“If I get to three you will have a punishment coming after you’re feeling better. Am I understood?”
“I don’t like things back there .” I made it sound like a bigger deal than it was. A rectal thermometer didn’t hurt. It wasn’t even that uncomfortable to me. It was the thought of being cared for intimately that dragged the attitude out of my mouth.
“I understand. And I know, that as a nurse, you understand why I need the number. Now, I’m sorry to have to insist and I promise to try to make it as quick and painless as possible. The tip is small and flexible.”
“I don’t want it.” I knew I wasn’t going to win, but I couldn’t stop protesting.
“Three.”
I climbed across his thighs because not cooperating meant it would take longer to get to sleep. My body needed rest. “Ugh. You’re so bossy. Bossy and mean.”
“Don’t throw nasty words at Daddy. Being sick doesn’t give you a pass to be rude.”
My tummy flipped and butterflies swarmed through it. Though I’d said it out loud and in text, hearing Leo call himself Daddy struck me sideways. “I’m really sorry.”
“I forgive you.”
“I’ll make it up to you. Okay?”
“Yes, babygirl. You will.” He kissed my shoulder.
Leo brought the thermometer into my view. He pressed a button, lighting up the small digital window.
“Relax,” he soothed as he stuck the small probe into a small jar of ointment and then inserted it into my tight pucker.
I groaned as he seated it. It was smaller and less invasive than the ones we used at the clinic, but I acted like it was bigger. His hand rubbed my back as I laid there. There was no doubt in my mind that I’d be in this exact position several times until my fever broke.
“Will you hold me like this every time?”
“I will, sweetheart. You’re being very good. Just a few more seconds.”
I laid there hating the way things had played out but thankful for his help. His voice was calm and soothing. Leo moved his free hand to my hair, gently stroking, and the motion helped me further relax. The thermometer beeped and was withdrawn from my back hole.
“One hundred and three point five. No wonder you feel so sick, Leelee. I brought medicine to lower your fever. Stay still.”
Knowing his plan before he told me, I squirmed. “I can swallow pills. I’ll take them all at once like a big girl. Please don’t put medicine up my butt!”
“Shh, sweetheart. Don’t work yourself up again. This medication works faster via suppository.”
I didn’t want anything administered rectally. I was hardly in a position to protest, but I did it anyway. “Daddy, please! I’m sleepy.”
“I know you are. And after this you can go to bed while the medicine works its magic on your fever. Now, relax for me.”
Leo pressed the first bullet to the tight ring of my ass and slowly slid it inside of me. I arched my hips to get into a better position, but he pressed on my lower back. I had no choice but to remain against his thighs.
“You’re being very good for Daddy. Two more.”
I doubted his statement but stayed as still as I could. The second bullet joined the first. Leo’s fingers stroked nerves that weren’t used to being touched and I wiggled. He kept his finger lodged inside me, probably because I wouldn’t cooperate. “Please remove your finger.”
“Almost done,” he soothed.
“I’m not a baby.”
“You’re not a baby. The medication gets absorbed faster and it will help you feel much better. Last one, little lionheart.” He swiftly delivered the third suppository.
“Thank you for taking care of me.”
“You’re welcome.”
Leo shifted me off his lap so I was lying face up on my bed. He lifted my legs and placed the diaper underneath me. Fastening the tabs, he leaned back, keeping his eyes on mine.
“Are you okay with all this?” I asked Leo, trying not to worry about his response. I fretted about what sort of picture I presented to him. I’d never worn a diaper in front of anyone. It was something I did in private. Even knowing he wouldn’t judge me, I still worried.
“Which part, babygirl?”
“The diaper, my Little clothes, and calling you Daddy?”
“Yes, Leelee. I’m okay with everything. We’ll have plenty of time to explore when you aren’t ill. I wish we were spending this sort of time together for a fun purpose, but it’s all right.”
His gentle assurance gave me such a huge boost of confidence. I would have grabbed him and kissed him if I had been in the position to do so, and if doing so wouldn’t risk getting him sick. Could I be falling for Leo Callahan without being in a relationship with him? It seemed like it.
“I’d like that too,” I finally mumbled.
“Would you like me to sleep in here with you tonight, Leelee?”
“I don’t want you to get sick.”
“Answer my question.”
“Only if you promise you won’t catch the flu.”
“My immune system is very strong,” he said. “I probably won’t catch it, but I can’t promise.”
“Then please make yourself comfortable.”
“Good. I’ll sleep here.”
“And more nights?”
“Yes, babygirl. As many nights as you’d like.”
“All the nights?”
“Aw, Leelee. I certainly hope so. I’d very much like to see where we can go in a relationship. Whether you’re my Big girl or my very Little girl, I’m on board with us. I hope you are too.”
“I’m on board.”
“You better not tell me tomorrow you made a delirious promise.”
I laughed lightly. “I promise I won’t say that.”
Tucking my stuffed lion under my arm, I crawled to the headboard. Leo turned the lights off and climbed in next to me.
“Goodnight, Daddy.”
“Sweet dreams, little lionheart.”
He arranged the covers over us, keeping a respectable distance. I scooted across the mattress until I was in his arms facing away from him so I wasn’t breathing in his face.
Any previous lies I’d told myself flew out the window. Leo had shown up when I needed him the most. After crushing on him for all this time I wouldn’t deny myself the chance for us to be together.
