Abby
A bby was nervous when she invited her parents to Angel’s Creek to meet Sawyer. She had no idea how they would react. They had been overbearing and overprotective since Kyle died. There was nothing she could ever do to convince them that she wasn’t her brother. He had always been depressed and when he hooked up with the wrong crowd, he spiraled fast.
However, they accepted him. They actually acted like normal parents.
She and Sawyer wanted to go through the mating ceremony sooner rather than later, so her parents stayed in Abby’s cottage while she stayed with Sawyer. They were searching for a bigger house. They wanted Nathan to have at least two other siblings.
Although she would have loved an outdoor ceremony, it was simply too cold. Everyone in their human form would have frozen to death before they were halfway done.
Xyla, Jade, the witches, and her mother squeezed into the small chamber with her as she prepared. The royal blue tunic with golden designs embroidered on them fit perfectly.
“I have no idea how the seamstress was able to make this for me in such a short amount of time.”
Jade laughed. “She has been making bridal tunics for decades. I think she can practically make one in her sleep overnight. I’ll tell you a secret. The embroidery used to be done by hand. Now, a machine does it all.”
“It’s still beautiful,” Abby said.
She sat down and sighed. “What if he changes his mind?”
Everyone giggled.
Her mother said, “Darling, I’ve seen the way that man looks at you. That is pure love and is the kind of love that will never die.”
“It’s what we have,” Jade said. “Well, except for Taryn, but shifter younglings aren’t allowed to marry until they’re at least eighteen.”
“I don’t know if I want to get married. I want to see the world. Besides, how would I know if a man loves me or loves my talents.”
Beth hugged her daughter. “I promise, you will know. Plus, you have me and Aunt Savvy watching out for you.”
“You also have a whole pack of wolves, a clan of bears, and a clan of dragons who would guard you with their lives,” Jade said.
Abby’s father poked his head in the door. “Your mate is waiting. Shall we?”
She stood and hugged all of her friends. Abby’s mother and the witches took their seats. Xyla stepped outside and walked down the aisle on Sean’s arm.
Once they were in place, Abby took her father’s arm and walked between the sea of wolf, bear, and dragon shifters who had come to celebrate the union between her and Sawyer.
Her heart caught in her throat and she was sure that she was going to pass out.
Then, she saw Sawyer standing in front. He was dressed in a royal blue tunic and black pants. He looked very regal as he stood tall in front of Zac.
Sawyer caught her eye and smiled at her. The world faded away and it was just the two of them.
Abby barely registered when her father hugged her and placed her hands in Sawyer’s.
Zac smiled at her and said, “We gather here today to witness and celebrate the union of Sawyer Cooke and Abigail Clarke, as they commit to each other as life partners, embracing both their human and wolf natures.
Abigail and Sawyer, do you come here freely, choosing each other as your mate and partner?”
“We do,” they both said in unison.
“They have written their own vows. Sawyer.”
“I, Sawyer, choose you, Abigail, as my mate and partner. I promise to stand by your side, in times of plenty and in times of hardship. I will be your companion in all forms, your confidant in all matters, and your partner in all journeys. My loyalty to you will be as unwavering as that of a wolf, and my love for you as enduring as the ancient forests.”
Abby felt the tears prick her eyes and the warmth from Sawyer’s hands enveloped her. Her heart fluttered and her stomach did flip-flops as she stared into the silvery eyes of the man she loved.
“I, Abigail, choose you, Sawyer, as my mate and lifelong companion. Just as the wolf finds strength in its pack, I find strength in our bond. I vow to run beside you through all of life’s seasons, to share your joys and shoulder your burdens. My devotion to you will be as steady as the moon’s path across the sky, guiding us through both light and darkness. In every form, in every moment, you are and will always be my chosen one, my beloved, my mate.”
Sawyer smiled at her and squeezed her hands. She wanted, more than anything, to throw herself in his arms and hold him tightly, never letting him go.
Zac’s voice cut through her thoughts. “By the strength of your commitment and the depth of your bond, you are now mated in the eyes of both the human community and your wolf pack. May your union be strong and your lives together be filled with joy. Sawyer, you may kiss your mate.”
He touched the side of her face and pressed his lips to hers. Howls, roars, and shouts filled the air as they passionately kissed.
Zac laughed and asked, “Why do they do this every time?”
Sean answered. “You did the same when you went through the mating ceremony with your luna.”
The room was quickly rearranged. Long tables were filled with food. Chairs were pushed to the outer edges of the room and soft music played.
Sawyer smiled at her. “May I have this dance?”
Abby nodded. “Now and forever, My Love.”
