Chapter Sixteen

Porter

During dinner, I snuck off to call the hotel. I asked them to put rose petals on the bed, and leave a chilled bottle of champagne in our room for Addy. I can’t wait to get her alone again.

Watching her tonight has only strengthened everything I’ve always felt for her.

Watching her experience Maria’s food, and listening to the moans she made every time she bit into something new has had me stretching the zipper on my jeans to the limit all night and I can’t wait to get her back to the hotel.

When we get back to the hotel, the girls waste no time ditching us for their room. They go straight to their room to go through their purchases and eat the cheesecake I brought them from Maria.

I can’t wait for Addy to see her surprise.

I swipe the key card and hold the door open for her with an uninhibited smile on my face.

“Oh my God! Porter! Did you do this for me?” She asks, picking up a few of the rose petals and rubbing them between her fingertips before dropping them back to the bed.

“I just wanted to do something special for you. You are always there for me, pushing me to see the good in myself. And I love you for that, and so many other reasons.” I pull her close and kiss her deeply.

I back her up to the bed until her knees hit the mattress. Her hands fist in my hair pulling me tight to her.

I pull back just enough that my hands can take in the expanse of soft skin under her shirt until I hit the button on her jeans. It takes me all of half a second to undo them and slide down her legs with her panties.

Addy always did have a thing for matching her panties and bras, I hope she still does. At the anticipation, I pull her jeans off her ankles and gently push her onto the bed. I pull her shirt over her head, revealing a matching pink lace bra. My mouth waters at the sight, and the thought that she matched them only for me to see.

“Baby, I love when you wear these for me.” I kneel on the floor in front of her, and slip the strap down her shoulder, trailing kisses along her collarbone.

I trace my fingers gently down her curves, and slip them inside. Her back arches in response to my touch. She moans and it somehow makes me harder for her, as if I wasn’t already.

“Porter -” I cut her off by rubbing the spot I know she likes, and I know that she still does with the moan she releases as her body arches off the bed a second time.

“On your back, now.” She demands.

Who am I to argue with her?

I grab around her waist and flip her on top of me as I go down on the bed.

“I need you now.” She hovers over me, ready to sink down in one motion. Before I can prepare for the feel of her she’s covering me completely, and riding fast and hard.

“Baby, I don’t know how long I’ll last with you doing that.” I whisper. I hold her hips and dig my fingers into her soft curves to slow her down. She doesn’t quit with the punishing pace, and starts to slam down on top of me.

In order to save myself, I flip her over and throw her legs over my shoulders. I ease in and out of her slowly, relishing every movement, and spasm from her. Her flexibility has always turned me on, I’m reminded how flexible she is as her legs slide back and forth on my shoulders as I pump in and out. Her hands gripping my face as we kiss.

“Porter, please. More,” she pants.

I flip her over once more, this time onto her stomach, and pull her to the edge of the bed. With her ass in the air I return to the punishing pace she was giving earlier. I grip her hips and pull her to me, slamming into her. After a few rounds, and too many minutes of reciting car part manuals to myself, I feel her pulse around me before letting myself go as well. We collapse onto the bed, me on top of her, relishing the feel of her body under me.

“Mmm. That was amazing.” She says into the bed, trying to catch her breath.

“You’re always amazing, baby.” I kiss her cheek and all the way down her back before going into the bathroom to clean up.

When I return to the bed, she’s snuggled up under the covers with one of our favorite movies on TV.

She pulls the covers back to reveal her still very naked body, and pats the bed next to her. I jump in, leaving my boxers on the floor, and pull her into me.

This is exactly what I’ve been missing from my life. And being here with Addy, right now, feels like everything's just falling into place. It’s a dangerous feeling for me.

After a few days of being back home, I finally made the decision that I needed to tell Kayla about Maura. She deserves to know what happened and if she shows up, I don’t want Kayla to be surprised and lose trust in me.

“Hey, Kayla, do you mind if I talk to you about something?” She pulls her headphones out of her ear and sets her spoon down.

“What’s going on?” She asks .

“Well, last week, your mom came by the shop.” I start.

“And you’re just telling me now?” She’s angry. Shit. I wasn’t ready for angry. Nervous and worried I was prepared for, not anger.

“Kayla, I didn’t -”

“That’s what going to the city was about! Wasn’t it? It wasn’t just some fun trip for me. It was all about keeping mom away from me?” I am out of my depth. She is seriously pissed off.

“Kayla-” She pushes back in her chair, grabs her backpack and runs out the door.

I follow her, but I’m not going to force her to talk to me right now. Addy is outside getting in her car as Kayla slams the passenger door shut, not even acknowledging Addy. She looks at me confused because Eric has been driving Kayla to school lately.

I motion for her to come over.

“Um, what happened at breakfast?” she asks.

“Well I tried to tell her about Maura, and she’s mad because she thinks the city was a pity trip and not just something special for her. I think she feels like I tainted the trip with this. The worst part is I didn’t even get to tell her anything other than she came by the shop last week.” I sigh.

She steps into my space, “Oh Porter. I’ll talk to her on the way to school. It’ll be okay.”

I kiss her forehead.

“Thanks, baby. I’ll see you after school? It’s a slow day and I want to be here to talk to Kayla if she even wants to talk to me later. ”

“Yea, I’ll let you know how it goes on the way to school.” She stands on her tiptoes and kisses me before walking back to her car to deal with Kayla for me.

I go back into the house to finish my breakfast before heading into the shop for the day. Ronnie is back in Florida for a month before coming home so I’m officially on my own as the shop owner this week.

News of the sale traveled fast around town once Mrs. Smith found out and to my shock people are happy for me. So many people have been popping in to say hi and to congratulate me. But the best visitors I had were Darlene and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. They came by to welcome me to Main Street as a business owner. When Walter told me he was happy to have another man on the street my chest filled with pride. They finally made me feel like a part of the community, truly.

It makes me wonder if I made a mistake leaving all those years ago. How different would things be if I had stuck it out and fought for my name and built a life with Addy?

I try not to dwell on the what ifs but they’ve been hitting me hard with all the gossip focused on me again, at least it’s positive gossip this time and not talking about how shitty my family is.

A text from Addy comes through as I’m setting up the shop for the day .

Addy : I smoothed things over, she forgives you, but you’ll need to talk to her today. And maybe buy her some chocolate ice-cream.

Me : You’re a lifesaver, baby. I'll stop on the way home.

The relief floods through me that Kayla isn’t still mad at me.

I’m going to cook Addy dinner tonight to show her how much I appreciate her. She’s been really stressed at work lately with the end of the year coming in about six weeks, and the students’ state testing coming up. Even with all that she’s still been there for me and Kayla.

I should give her more than dinner but she’s always been more appreciative of the little things than a grand gesture.

Luckily, spring is in full swing so I can grill because my abilities in the kitchen are almost non-existent.

I’m planning the meal while fighting with the Corvette again when I hear the door shut. I wipe my hands on a rag and walk to the front of the shop to greet whoever came in.

“Hey, Porter.” Stacey walks in the shop, calling out to me before I get there.

“Hey, Stacey, what’s going on? ”

The only concern running through my mind is that Maura is causing issues for Kayla.

“Well, I just came from the school. Maura was in the office when I left, demanding to withdraw Kayla.”

I suck in a breath, “She didn’t get her did she?”

“No, fortunately the ladies in the front office know the situation and have a soft spot for you,” she chuckles. “Kayla, nor Adelaide, know about her showing up. I didn’t know if you’d want Adelaide to know so I’m leaving that up to you. But your emergency custody still stands. Once Maura saw me she ran, I assume she doesn’t want me to let my Dad know.”

My shoulders drop, “Yea. Probably not after her run in last week with him and the drunk tank.”

“I figured as much. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, and to let you know court has been set for mid-July for the permanent guardianship hearing. I think we have a good chance.” She beams at the thought that this could be over for Kayla.

I’m so grateful for her, and the fact she actually cares about Kayla. I’ve heard and seen so many horror stories about case workers being overworked and not giving kids the attention they need. Another perk, I’m realizing, of a small town.
