Sitting in my seat next to the Bradshaws and watching Ethan makes me picture what it would look like if it were Lauren and I up there getting married.

What would our life be like back in Lupine Valley? Would anything be different?

Then my thoughts wander to what Abigail would think. Would she be upset that her life got turned upside down and now here I am getting married and getting to live my life?

I’m shaken from my thoughts when the music starts to play and I get to watch Lauren glide down the aisle in her red dress. Her blonde waves are cascading down her back. God, she’s so beautiful. Why was I ever such an idiot to not want to risk our friendship? Instead I risked everything else.

Watching the rest of the bridal party file in isn’t the same as watching Lauren, my eyes are trained on her all through the vows.

During the cocktail hour I hang around the outer edges of the group. Waiting for my girl to finish.

“Hey, stranger.” She sidles up to me with a grin on her face.

“Hey, gorgeous. Are you ready to party with me?”

“Yup. I need a drink. And some food. Then I’m all yours.”

I reach my arm out to the side, inviting her to go in first and then follow her through the lobby to the ballroom.

“Wow. They did a great job in here.” The ballroom looks completely transformed into Vivian’s Winter Wonderland theme.

“Yeah, I think Vivian was pretty specific on what she wanted.” She chuckles.

I don’t think we’d classify Vivian as a bridezilla, but she was very particular in the planning process according to Lauren and the mothers.

As soon as we find our seats, Lauren is pulled away for bridesmaid duties and I don’t get to see her much for the rest of the reception. I instead find some old high school buddies to sit with and chat about the good days.

Thankfully Layla doesn’t bring up Abigail again.

I need to call her before talking to Lauren. I’ve convinced myself that if I have Abigail’s blessing, I will be able to move forward and be happy with Lauren. I spent most of the night thinking of how to keep Lauren, how to get rid of this guilt. It was like a light switched in my head and I had a sudden moment of clarity.

At least I hope so.
