Chapter Six

LEX

It doesn’t surprise me when ViN comes strolling in the med bay right after I’d administered the sleeping draught to EvO .

“ How bad is he?”

“ If he had been out there another moment longer, he would have lost both his legs from the knees down. Thankfully , his suit was tightened down in several locations and this kept the gasses from spreading further up his body. He did inhale some, so his lungs were also damaged, but I have administered some antibodies to help speed up his natural restorative healing. I didn’t inform him of all his injuries. Once he became focused on the female. I simply waited until he was settled and then sent him into a deep, repairing sleep. I believe he will awaken within a couple of risings fully healed on his own. You may want to be here when he does open his eyes because he is going to be quite angry with me for doing this without his permission and I’ll need your backup.”

“ What about the female, how is she doing? You do realize that once Ember realizes another of her kind is on board, you won’t be able to keep her out of here.”

“ My limited knowledge of humans doesn’t help. From what scans, I have been able to perform. I believe she will live, but it will take significantly longer for her to recover. Not only was she dangerously dehydrated, malnourished to the point of starvation, but she was also constantly administered a drug that her body didn’t need. Also , she was momentarily exposed to the Nebula’s gasses as well. This affected all her extremities as well, and I am worried she may lose a few fingers no matter what I do.

“ Humans heal at a different rate than we do and without a fully functioning Medical Chamber on board. There is no way for us … me, to speed the process up. The mineral waters will help, but they can only do so much. If we had foreseen this we could have petitioned the elders to allow us to obtain some of the healing waters on Xuias . Unfortunately , we cannot see into the future, so my own mix will simply have to do.”

“ I would wrap my Ember in a bubble if I could. She is always stumbling or hitting one of her tiny toes on something. Every time I witness a new bruise upon her fragile skin, I feel like roaring out … Speaking of anger, I am still upset that EvO risked his life to save a female he has never even seen before. I would be able to comprehend this better if she had been his mate, but to take such a chance for a complete stranger with his responsibilities. I cannot comprehend his foolish actions.”

“ Our brother is nothing but honorable, ViN , you know this. He would’ve never been able to live with himself if she had perished. In his mind, he had to find a way to save her. I wonder if it made it worse because her pod was stationed right outside his sleeping chamber. If she hadn’t been right there, would he still have reacted the same? How does your Ember say this … oh yeah, that’s spilled milk now . Still not sure exactly what that term means fully, but I think it applies to this situation being over and done.”

The Destroyer’s voice comes over the comm. “ Master ViN , … Master Rafe needs you at the helm.”

“ I will be there shortly … LeX , comm me if things change.”

Sliding open the side wall, I approach the other side of the small chamber the female is submersed in. These slight fragile creatures are fascinating, especially with their extreme differences from all other species. All the human females I have encountered are thin-skinned and easily injured, but you would never know of their fragile physical states because they all have such huge personalities.

This one’s bones are so delicate she could easily be broken. Long , what I am assuming brown hair flows all around her as she floats inside the mineral waters. This tank was built to help with the healing process, but I do not know how long I will be able to leave her in there. A human’s skin tears effortlessly and she has already been submerged in a liquid substance for an uncountable amount of rotations. Her skin is wrinkled and puckered already in multiple locations.

Taking the controls in hand, I have the inner arms move her fingers and toes gently, trying to get her circulation moving again. For her sake, I hope she doesn’t lose any of them. Her arms and legs are slim where she has practically been starved, but you can still see their muscle tone. Sharp hip and shoulder bones poke severely outward, showing her malnutrition plainly. I double the doses of nutrients being injected through the ports originally inserted into her body when she was being secured in the pod.

My mind drifts through all the other possibilities and healing agents I could perform in order to get her back to optimal health. Moreover , I am intrigued by the potential transformation of her appearance with a few pounds added. I’m grateful to have been given this time to evaluate her better without interruptions. Studying her genetics will help me be able to treat the others quicker when they are brought on board. Even though I have tried to study every scenario of what I might face once the pods are brought inside. I still have no way to prepare for all the unknowns.

As the machine turns her, I look away when her breasts and female parts are displayed clearly. Even with a glance, it’s easy to see why my brothers are so drawn to their kind. Their curves are highly appealing, but I refuse to ogle her. Instead , I decide to have a light covering wrapped around her middle to provide her some modesty and also so that EvO doesn’t tear the eyes out of anyone he catches peering at her suggestively.

My brother may be in denial, but there was, and is a reason he was so drawn to her. Nevertheless , it does cross my mind that it’s a possibility she is his mate, time will however answer all our questions. My job is to get both of them back on their feet. I can’t help but smile when I realize it will be interesting to see how their forced confinement works out. I have a feeling my brother is going to have his hands full with this female, even though EvO has always won the females over quickly with his quick charm and pleasing smile. This one may prove to be different.
