Chapter Twenty-Three

QWIN

It takes EvO a few more minutes, but after asking me multiple times if I will be alright. He finally leaves, promising to return as quickly as possible. LeX is standing slightly in the way when he turns to leave and I catch myself leaning over so that I can watch EvO’s butt as he walks away. LeX leans over blocking my view, smiling, and I know my face turns beet red.

“ I am pleased to see some natural color come into your features, Qwin .”

“ That’s a very nice way of saying you caught me staring at EvO’s ass.”

“ Possibly .”

“ How long do you think I’m going to be stuck in this bed?”

“ There are a few things, I believe, I can do to get you on your feet quicker now that I have had time to study your essence closer. I had previous scans from others, but was hesitant to use them on you. I have come to learn that the human body is quite complex and unique to each user.”

“ Can I ask you something personal? If you’re not comfortable, you can just say no.”

“ I am willing to help any way I can, Qwin . What is on your mind.”

“ You and EvO and the scary red guy are brothers, right?”

“ Correct , we are all from different mothers but we were raised for the most part together.”

“ Do you all experience that Memory Fasting ?”

“ How would you know of this?”

“ I kinda did it with EvO . Do you care if I touch your skin? I just need to see something.”

He holds his pale yellow hand out towards mine, and I don’t know if I am relieved or concerned when I feel absolutely nothing but the warmth of his skin. “ I don’t know if this proves that was a onetime thing or not, but at least I don’t feel like it will happen every time one of you touches me.”

“ Was there something you saw that worried you? The Memory Fasting is not common, but it does explain the pull you both have towards each other.”

“ No , if anything, it puts my mind at ease. EvO is very easy to be with. I feel like I have always known him. It’s kinda crazy when you say that out loud, though.”

“ It’s not my place to explain the ways of EvO’s people, but I can assure you that he only has your best interest at heart. I’ve never even seen him interested in a female before and the fact that he can’t keep his hands off you simply shows the bond that you both are creating.”

“ But we are so different, are we even compatible?”

LeX’s laughter is quick, and I know I am blushing once again. “ I can assure you, there are no issues with compatibility that you need to concern yourself with. The Lord of Light has brought you to us for a reason, Qwin . You should count yourself lucky. The bond forming between yourself and EvO is real, but I can understand your hesitation.”

“ I know nothing about you guys’ cultures, and I don’t want him to feel like he is responsible for me. I am starting to have feelings for him, but I am not sure if it’s because of the circumstances, or the fact that I’ve lost everything. That I am desperately clinging to him.”

“ Is that your mind telling you that or your heart? Our minds are sometimes our worst enemies, Qwin . The good thing is, you are here and safe. There is no pressure on you to be, or do anything you don’t want. My first concern is to get you up and running. We can work on matters of the heart afterward.”

“ I’m not sure my heart is going to last that long. Given that you are the doctor, I was really hoping you could explain the logistics of this Memory Fasting .” I stick my bottom lip out, pouting.

“ I can see you are going to pull all the ammunition out against me. Ember also tries that same tactic when she does not get her way. EvO would be the best to explain this to you, as it is specifically linked to his people. However , I will tell you that it’s rare and highly coveted. It showed both of you what you were to the other. So that you can build on that foundation together. You are the one female in this entire universe that now knows EvO the best.”

His words give me much to think about. EvO and LeX are the only aliens I have talked to. What if I am simply falling for him because of all we have gone through together?

“ Qwin , I’m going to give you a couple stimulant injections. They will help you feel better quickly and get you back on your feet. However , I need you to start eating something hardier. I can tell by the scans that you have lost an immense amount of weight, and that is never good.”

“ Well , Doc , since I have no idea how to use that food thing. I’m not sure how that is going to happen.”

“ I will have Ember come in later so that she can show you how to manipulate it into something more favorable. Until then rest, I’m sure EvO won’t be gone long.”
