EPILOGUE
BERLYNN
“He looks so happy,” I say, sobbing into my husband’s chest.
“He is. Look at him, he hasn’t stopped smiling since Janette and he said, ‘I do’. Did you think this day would ever come for Berkley after everything that happened to him?” Aris asks.
“Honestly? No. But I’m so happy for him. When they made things official by announcing they were boyfriend and girlfriend, I thought it’d be nothing more than a tryst between two people who’ve struggled after traumatic accidents.” I sigh, gathering my thoughts. “I thought Berk being able to walk again was going to be the highlight of his life, I didn’t think things could get better for him than that. But he’s dancing, Aris. He now has a wife and his own little cottage on the property. Tracker has changed things for him, he’s now independent and is starting to remind me of the Berkley he was before his drink was laced at that party. You’ve helped give him that, husband.”
“You’re giving me too much credit, wife,” he tells me, shifting our sleeping daughter on his shoulder. “He’s done this. He’s fought every single day for what he has.”
“He has,” I agree. “They’re getting ready to head out for their honeymoon. We should go say our goodbyes.” My sniffling has Aris’s head twisting on his neck, and he gives me a sympathetic smile.
“They’re only going to be gone for four days, baby girl. Don’t be sad,” he coos.
I slant my head and rest my forehead against his bicep. “These are happy tears, Aris.”
“Mrs. Crockett is waving us over,” Aris informs me. “It’s a good thing she’s going along as their escort.”
“I’d be going if she wasn’t,” I grumble.
“Stop being so protective, baby. We gave Berkley his wings, now it’s time we watch him soar.”
“Fine,” I huff. Then my attention is drawn in another direction. “What’s up with that?” I ask, pointing at Kayson and Addison on the dance floor, looking awfully familiar and cozy with one another.
“That,” he says around a chuckle, “is another story in the making.”
“Interesting,” I laugh. “Wonder why she didn’t tell me there was something going on between her and Kayson?”
“I think my sister would have to admit that to herself first,” Aris counters.
“The Davenport twins are hardheaded,” I state, watching as the duo leans in toward one another. “He’s going to have to wear her down.”
“That’s going to be a whirlwind affair,” Aris states. “I bet by this time next year, we’ll be attending another wedding.”
“I bet he shuttles her off to Vegas and doesn’t give her any other choice but to tie herself to him forever,” I contend.
“I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.” He’s right about that. But if fate wants two souls to unite, she’ll find a way to make it come to fruition. There’s no fighting her.
