CHAPTER TEN-TOMMY
T he second my eyes opened, I knew I was alone.
Goddamn it, Vixen. You’re gonna make me chase you, aren’t you?
The windows had automatically changed their opacity, going from blackout to semi-translucent allowing some sunlight to creep in some time after dawn.
No one could see in. That didn’t change. But sometimes I liked it dark in here.
Like last night.
I groaned as I stretched and stood up, wondering when she left. I’d have to check the security feed, but I could do that over coffee.
The other question was how. How did she get home? She didn’t have a car.
Hmmm. Better not wait to find out.
I grabbed my laptop and opened it, going right for the smart security system I had installed.
There were no cameras in the bedroom, but I was able to track her movements in the living room as she fiddled with the alarm before leaving.
I was pretty amazed she had disabled it, but she must have been paying more attention last night than I thought.
Smart cookie.
I continued to watch, noting the sweats she’d borrowed. She carried her heels, and I saw a pair of my flip-flops on her feet, and I grinned. The remnants of her own clothes were bundled in her hands.
My amusement faded as I watched her rush outside to meet a car with one of a couple of those rideshare app stickers in the window.
She took a fucking Uber. My Vixen got in the car with a goddamn stranger.
That was so not okay. Didn’t she watch the news? Did she have no idea how dangerous that was?
Apparently not. And why was I surprised?
Camryn was an innocent.
One of those people who still trusted in the kindness of strangers.
Take last night, for example.
I could have been a psycho killer. Some deranged lunatic.
I mean, I wasn’t. But still.
The idea of that sweet, soft, beautiful woman walking around with no one to look out for her sent a shiver of fear racing down my spine.
Of course, she wasn’t alone anymore.
She had me. She just didn’t know it yet.
I was anxious to find her. To tell her. To let her know in no unspeakable terms that she was mine now. But first, I needed a shower.
Then, I’d go hunting. And when I found her, I was going to show her exactly who she belonged to.
