CHAPTER THREE
Mila
One kiss wouldn’t hurt anything, right?
I mean, he was insanely attractive.
My brother was absorbed in the game.
And it was only one kiss. One teeny tiny minuscule kiss.
I nodded. No words were needed in this moment between us and anticipation grew quickly. My surroundings floated away, leaving only Rowan, sweet, handsome, sexy as fuck Rowan.
My pussy clenched as his lips came closer and when they finally landed on mine, it was as if I drifted away on a bed made of clouds, no worries or cares left.
The kiss was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. His mouth took me on a sexy journey of exploration as the kiss grew passionate and our tongues collided. His hand snaked down the side of my head and into my hair, wrapping it around his fist possessively.
When he tugged gently, my head fell back, our lips breaking apart, as he exposed my bare neck for him.
“Fuck, Mila…” He growled.
I wanted more, so much more.
So why not take it then? Why not just go for it for once?
It was so much more complicated than that. But wasn’t I sick of complications? Wasn’t it about time I did what I wanted?
Without another thought, I grabbed the back of his head and pulled him in for another kiss. It wasn’t any less steamy than the one before, and we both moaned as Rowan deepened the kiss and our tongues tangoed.
We kissed and kissed until our lips were swollen and bruised.
It felt like the kiss lasted forever and ended too quickly all at the same time.
“Mila,” Rowan whispered, his breath tickling my face, “Spend the night with me.”
I scrambled out from under the covers and got out of bed quickly. “Rowan, you know that can’t happen.”
He ran a hand through his sandy brown hair, tugging at the longer strands on top, his blue eyes blazing as he straightened his back and faced me. “You’re killing me, woman.”
I crossed my arms over my chest and sighed. “I’m killing you? You’re the one constantly coming on to me when you know my brother will lose his shit.”
“I’m sorry for upsetting you but I’m not sorry for how I feel about you. For some reason, I’m drawn to you, Mila. I don’t understand it and fuck it’s hard to ignore.”
“I know but we have to. I have no job right now and can’t afford a place on my own, and im not going back to the city. I don’t want to be anywhere near my ex. Julian wants to kill Peter as it is.”
“I could say the same.” Rowan muttered with a look of annoyance etched across his face. “He must be a fucking idiot to cheat on such a gorgeous woman. He didn’t appreciate you therefore he doesn’t deserve you.”
I swallowed hard over the sudden lump lodged in the back of my throat. “I know he didn’t. But thank you. It’s nice to hear.”
“I want you Mila there’s no doubt about it but I also will respect your space and decisions. I’m staying across the hall tonight if you need anything. Can I at least get a hug before we say goodnight?” Rowan smiled a cheesy grin and I couldn’t help but laugh while my mind freaked out over the fact that he’d be sleeping under the same roof as me tonight.
“I think a hug is okay.”
Would I really turn down a hug from his sexy ass? Hell no.
When Rowan wrapped his arms around me, his large muscular frame enveloped my smaller one. His hands rested gently on my back but his fingers twitched and I could tell he wanted to move them lower. My own arms slid around his neck and I rested my head on his upper chest, my ear over his heart. It’s loud pumping soon made my own pick up speed.
we stayed embraced for a while and when we finally broke apart, my body felt empty. But I plastered a smile across my face and buried those feelings deep down inside. “Goodnight Rowan.”
“Goodnight Mila.”
Lets just say I didn’t get much sleep and when I woke up the next morning, the first thing that popped into my head was him.
I was doomed.
When I made my way downstairs for coffee, the house was silent. I checked the time, only half past eight, but I figured the boys must’ve left for work.
A post it note by the coffee table informed me I was right.
As I grabbed a mug and poured myself a cup, my phone buzzed. I fished it out of my pocket and saw a text from Julian on the screen.
Julian: Big storm coming in. Don’t leave the house.
Shit, there went my idea to go job hunting.
Mila: But I wanted to look for a job today. What’s the forecast?
Julian: The forecast is stay home. We’re due for at least a half a foot of snow and your car won’t make it far on these mountain roads.
Mila: Fine. Do you know of any place in town hiring? Maybe I can look online.
Julian: Try the spa in town. It opened recently, and I’m sure Lacey could use some help.
My interest piqued. A spa sounded interesting. I enjoyed doing nails, my own and for others, but I’d be happy with a front desk job for now. At least it’d be something.
After texting Julian back and fixing my coffee, I headed back upstairs and fetched my laptop. A quick google search led me right to Appleridge’s new spa and on the front page were job listings.
Front Desk Receptionist needed- asap.
Perfect. I clicked, filled out the application, and sent it off.
Not even five minutes later, as I browsed my email, my phone rang.
“Hi, Mila? It’s Lacey. I’m closing early for the snow storm but I was wondering if you were available for an interview this morning? I know it’s short notice but I’m looking to fill this position quickly.”
“Yes! Of course! Give me an hour, is that okay?”
“Sure thing! See you soon!” Lacey hung up and I sprung out of the bed. It was time to get ready, I had a job to score. This day felt better already. I’d be back home before the storm got bad and Julian wouldn’t suspect a thing.
Besides, getting a job was high priority. Julian should understand.
A little while later, after getting myself done up, I slid on my boots, jacket, hat, and mittens and headed out to start my car and clean it off.
I brushed the few inches of snow off and just as I was about to finish, a loud engine roared behind me and headlights landed on me. I squinted through the falling snow and saw it was my brother’s truck.
Fuck, what was he doing home?
“Mila! Where do you think you’re going?” Julian called as he hopped out of his loud truck.
“I have an interview at the spa. The storm isn’t bad yet. I’m just going to run there?—”
“No.” Julian cut me off. “Not happening. The roads are awful. I came back for my plow to help out some of the guys around town.”
“Then I’ll follow behind you.”
“Mila, don’t be stubborn. I’d take you myself, but I told them I’d be right back. Lacey will understand.”
“C’mon Julian! I’ve driven in the snow before! You act like I’m still a teenager sometimes. I need a job. I’m not missing my chance.”
Julian stormed over to me but all I did was stand there and roll my eyes. He could be so annoying with this possessive shit. I wasn’t a kid anymore. “Mila! I’m not kidding. These aren’t like city roads. They are slippery, curvy, and dangerous, especially when going down the mountain. Give me a second.”
“What are you doing?”
“Calling Rowan. He’ll take you.”
