CHAPTER FOURTEEN
DONOVAN
I can’t believe I am a fucking cat! I still don’t really know how the hell it happened.
One moment I’m getting drunk at the beachside bar, and the next, I’m waking up to this fucking weirdo bitching about Silver as he gives me a bath.
A fucking bath! Do they not realize cats hate water?!
The purple-headed freak just ranted and raved about how he’s supposed to be marrying Luke, and that Silver better watch her back.
I may be extremely pissed at the woman, but I gave the guy some delicious scratches when he threatened her.
Now, I’m lounging in a huge ass bed, trying not to cuddle up to the girl who owns my heart and abandoned me. She looks so peaceful as she sleeps. My mind is racing, and for some reason, I have a craving for mice.
I’m going to murder Luke when this spell wears off, but for now, I think I’ll piss in his shoes.
Jumping off the bed and landing on all four paws is going to take some getting used to.
I wander the room in search of the closet, and have to scoff when I see the hundreds of shoes lined up neatly along the bottom rack of the wide space. I ignore Silver’s side and look for the ones that seem most worn.
I find two pairs of sneakers that are well-loved and take a squat, relieving myself with a huge ass grin on my face.
When that’s finished, I head into the large bathroom and jump up onto the counter.
Ugh, why did they make me an adorable fluff ball? I try to turn the sink on to get a sip of water, but my paws won’t work.
Fucking thumbs! No, you know what, if I’m going to be stuck in this God forsaken body, I am not going to let people ignore my needs. I’m going to be the most annoying, pampered ass pussy they have ever seen.
Angling my head toward the door to the bedroom, I open my mouth and scream loudly. It doesn’t take long until Silver is stumbling into the bathroom, her hair a mess and her eyes barely open.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” she coos with a yawn, and if I could, I would be rolling my eyes. I continue to howl and yell, and she scoops me up into her arms, snuggling me between her breasts.
Well, this isn’t what I was aiming for, but it is nice. I begin to purr as she strokes me. She smells the same, and my eyes get watery.
Can cats cry?
Carrying me back to the bed, she climbs beneath the blankets and hums to me.
“I’ve missed you so much. I wish I could still hear you in my mind. Just another thing I’ve lost recently,” she says with a sigh. I wish I could talk to her. I have so many damn questions.
“Tomorrow… Well, tonight, I am getting married. I never saw my life happening this way. I can’t believe I’m a witch! I don’t think I will ever get used to that.” She babbles for a few minutes before her words trail off, and I realize she’s gone to sleep.
I know I should take this time to explore, and find some dirt on Luke, but it has been an exhausting day, so maybe a short cat nap will be fine.
I didn’t plan to sleep so long, but wrapped up in Silver’s warm body, I felt peace for the first time since she left. But now I’m up on a top shelf, knocking shit off, because they had the audacity to give me canned cat food.
I am a fucking man! I want a steak. Hissing at who I have come to know as Kane, Silver tries to get me to jump down with some toy on a string.
“Love, I don’t think he likes the food. Maybe we should get him some salmon?” he suggests, and I stop hissing at him.
Sitting on my ass, I lick my paw and rub it over the back of my ear.
I can tell the Incubus knows exactly who I am, but he’s playing along with Luke. Which makes him the enemy.
“Will you help me? All I can conjure is muffins, and I don’t want to bother Merida. She’s so busy helping to get things ready for tonight,” Silver says, and Kane nods, offering her his hand.
“Yes, I will help you, but then I have to go wake the King of Hell. Only you would be up at the ass crack of dawn,” he grumbles, giving me the stink eye.
“I thought I could just feed him, then go back to sleep, but he’s been throwing a hissy fit ever since.”
Closing their eyes, Silver mumbles some words softly under her breath, and a wide range of food appears on a golden platter. Shrimp, steak, and lobster. Don’t mind if I do.
Jumping off the shelf, I make sure my tail knocks a few more things onto the ground, before I traipse over to the tray and nibble on the lobster.
Silver and Kane talk behind me, but I don’t care. I have been starving for two days.
Taking my time, I eat every bite, then make my way back to the closet to leave Luke another surprise. This time in a pair of black shiny shoes.
When I return, Silver is sitting on the corner of the large bed with a glass ball in her hand. Kane is gone, and I notice she looks around to make sure she’s alone.
She looks sad. I know I should comfort her, but I’m still mad at everything she’s done. Last night was a fluke. We won't be cuddling again.
“This is dumb. I’m about to get married. I need to let them go,” she whispers before mumbling a spell.
The glass ball glows before showing me?
What the fuck?!
“Five minutes, Silver, then you need to move on,” she says and I move closer, so that I can see better.
It’s the day that I took her to a coffee shop. I wanted to ask her to be my date to the ball. It’s so surreal hearing my voice speak through the small object.
“So, I wanted to ask you something?” I say as Silver sets her bagel down, giving me her full attention.
“What's up?” she replies with a smile.
I remember this day. I was nervous she would say no. Yes, we had been sleeping together, but arriving at the ball with each other would make a large statement.
“We have a tradition here around the holidays. There’s a huge masquerade ball. I’m not sure if one of the other guys has asked you to go yet, but would you be my date?”
I asked her quickly, then looked down. I don’t know why she made me so nervous. Maybe it’s because I was already in love with her. For once, I thought that I had something for myself.
An amazing woman to love me and my best friends. Someone who would make us happy…
She reached over and placed her hand on mine. “I would love to go with you. And no, nobody else has asked me yet.”
She made me so happy… If only I knew that it was all a lie. Maybe I could have saved myself, guarded my heart more tightly.
Silver sniffles and quickly wipes the tears from her cheeks. “I miss you, Donnie… I wish things could have been different.”
My eyes widen at her confession, and I really hate that I’m a fucking cat right now. I wish I could hold her and tell her that I still love her.
The memory plays on, but I don’t look. I can’t take my gaze away from the beautiful woman beside me.
Closing her eyes, she mumbles once more and the scene changes to a night she spent with Wells and Arrow. They are laid out on her bed with snacks, watching a movie. She laughs softly and wipes more tears away.
Someone knocks on the door and she covers the ball with her hands, before shouting for them to come in. A woman rushes inside with a giant bag in her hands and gives Silver a warm, motherly smile.
“Are you ready, dear? We have about six hours to get you primped and primed to be our next queen,” she says with a little pep, and Silver nods, but I can tell from the look in her eyes that her whole heart isn’t in this… and that gives me hope that maybe… just maybe, one day, we will be together again.
KANE
“Today’s the day,” I cheer as I let myself into the spare room that Luke chose the night before. I find it hilarious that Silver kicked him out.
The curtains are drawn, and the room is completely dark, but not for meee… I have perfect vision.
One of the perks of being an Incubus.
Luke grumbles from the large bed and I laugh. “Wakey wakey,” I coo, before getting a running start and throwing myself on top of the lump in the middle of the mattress.
“Fuck,” Luke roars, and I laugh again. “Get off of me, you giant ass,” he grumbles, but I just wiggle until I can wrap my arms tightly around him. “Seriously, Kane.” He laughs, and I sigh.
“Fine, but I want to talk to you before breakfast.” I release him and roll over until I’m on the edge of the bed.
We need to discuss Donovan Blake being a cat. I honestly found his little hissy fit this morning to be quite entertaining, and I can’t wait for Luke to find his little presents.
But still, doesn't he understand that once Silver finds out she's going to be really hurt.
Not just upset, but hurt that Luke would do that to her. Look at how she reacted about him inviting her exes to the wedding.
I can hear Luke shuffling off the other side of the bed, groaning.
“I slept like shit. That bed needs to be replaced,” he grunts, and I laugh.
“Why didn’t you just conjure a new one?” I ask as I turn to face him. With a wave of his hand, the curtains are opened and the glorious scene of Mount Nightmare appears. Full of hanging souls, in all their magnificent bloody glory.
“I was too tired to move after leaving Silver. I hope she enjoyed my big bed all to herself, because after today, she will never be sleeping alone again.”
I laugh, and he gives me a look.
“I don’t think your bride got much sleep at all. It seems her new kitten had a bone to pick with her.” I laugh again and he groans, rubbing his eyes.
“I didn’t really think that one through well, did I?” Luke says with a yawn, and I shake my head then shrug.
“Too late now. She won’t let ‘Luke’ out of her sight. Even when he was clawing the drapes and knocking things off the shelves, she thought he was adorable… But, I have to know, why Donovan?”
Moving over to the bathroom, he turns the light on, then blinks a few times at the brightness. I follow him, ignoring as he strips and turns the shower on.
“Honestly, it’s because his father pissed me off, and he was ignoring the wedding invitations, but maybe Arrow would have been a better choice.”
“Or maybe you could have just gotten her a normal cat from a pet store… I mean, it’s just a crazy, out of the box thought, but it would have been equally as effective.”
Luke snorts, and I turn to leave him to his thoughts and shower. I can smell Silver all over him, and my dick perks up.
Soon, I will have her.
I may not be able to fuck her until she's pregnant with Luke's heir, but there are many ways to show her pleasure, and I can't fucking wait.
The way my body craves her is unlike anything I have experienced before. I still think she may be my mate, but time will tell.
I've waited centuries. What's a few more months?
I'm running late because Luke's asshole assistant threw one of the largest tantrums I have ever witnessed by a grown man… Well, demon.
I didn't even get to kiss Silver goodbye and wish her well. I was hoping to be at the wedding, but I understand why Luke chose me for this job.
I'm the only one he trusts to keep him and our queen safe. If only I could get this asshole to quit whining.
“This is fucking ridiculous!” Thimon shouts, as I grab his hand and pull him through the portal. He’s steaming right now because he’s not invited to the wedding, and must stay at the Academy guarding the portal with me.
“I should have been his best man!”
That almost makes me laugh. If anyone was meant to stand beside Luke on his wedding day it would be me.
I have been his best friend and confidant for years.
We bonded out on the streets of Salem. He was an orphan and I was escaping a bad home situation.
My father wanted to sell me to a powerful warlock so that he could have rich grain and fatty pigs.
He didn't need another mouth to feed and back then I was a scrawny thing.
When I ran away from home I bumped into Luke.
I expected him to beat me up, but he didn't. He took me under his wing and showed me where to go to get warm and who in the town would be decent enough to give us scraps.
It was a rough life, but he made it bearable. I will always love, respect, and honor Luke.
If Silver is my fated mate, it only makes sense that Luke and I would share a woman. We're family.
Thimon continues to rant, and I tune him out.
He’s acting like an idiot, and I don’t even want to comment on the fact that he’s dressed in white lace, similar to the gown that Silver had made for the ceremony.
A woman with green eyes walks into the Academy’s dining hall, which we have taken over for today, and she gives me a hesitant smile.
“Hi, I’m here for Silver’s wedding. I’m Jade. Her best… Well, I was her best friend. I don’t know anymore, since I haven’t heard from her in a long time.”
I offer her my hand and release a tiny bit of my magic, relaxing her.
“Hi, Jade, it’s lovely to meet you. I’m Kane, and I can assure you that Silver will be very glad to see you.”
“She's mentioned me? She doesn't hate me for deceiving her?” I give her a nod as Thimon scoffs.
Her shoulders relax, and another woman joins us.
“Sorry, I know. I couldn’t find my earrings,” she says to Jade, then shoots me a wink.
“Hi, Clara,” I say with a smile and lean over to kiss her cheek. She giggles and takes Jade’s hand.
Thimon is pouting in the corner like a child who’s had his toys taken away, and I roll my eyes, ignoring him.
“How is she?” Clara asks me, and I smirk.
“She had a long night, but as for the wedding, she’s fine. I think she’s even happy.” Clara nods and gives Thimon a glare.
“Well, we will see you in there,” she says, then pulls Jade into the portal.
A few more people show up, and I am about to snap at the moron beside me.
After a man and troll cross over, I turn to Thimon and wave my hand, binding him with a happy spell.
“Cut your shit and start acting like you are the assistant to the damn Devil,” I shout and he sighs, then nods.
I don’t know how long we’ve been here greeting people and allowing them into the portal, when the people of the hour finally grace us with their presence.
“I don’t know why I am fucking here,” Winnifred Blackwell whines, and her father grips her arm tighter, pulling her into the room.
I give them a big smile and wave my hand, changing the portal. “Right this way, Sir,” I say with a charming grin, allowing a little of my magic to fill the room and relax them. They have no idea what’s about to happen, and I can’t fucking wait.
It’s time to eradicate the scum.
