Hunting Party
S ix months later, I stood with Domino by my side, watching my best friend fly on my cat dragon while shooting arrows at a group of rogue wolves. How the hell was this my life? I stepped back to give Maverick space as he came in for a quick landing in front of us.
“Now that’s what I’m talking about!” Jackie jumped off Maverick’s back, and he instantly returned to his cat form. “That is so much fun.”
“Even more fun when you’re shooting down monsters!” Lena clapped her hands as she appeared next to us. “I get to ride next!”
“You don’t need a ride. Likosa taught you how to travel without one!” Jackie whined.
“You’re both enjoying this too much,” Domino grumbled.
“Oh, let it go, day walker!” Jackie teased. “I know you don’t like taking out your monster brothers, but these are the worst of the worst, people even you wouldn’t be friends with.”
Domino said nothing as Jackie ran off to join the other hunters.
“She is never going to stop calling you that,” I laughed, referring to Jackie’s favorite new nickname for Domino.
“It's fine. I’ll outlive her.” I grinned as he pulled me into his arms. “Now kiss me and tell me you love me.”
I lifted to my toes and pressed my lips against his. As always, his kiss made my stomach flutter and my pulse quicken. Before I lost my head, I pulled back from him and smiled.
“I really like you, Domino.” I licked my lips.
“Like…” he groaned. “Still making me work for it?”
“It can’t be that easy.” I winked. Yes, I loved him, but I wasn’t ready to tell him that. The man was immortal; he could wait for it. “Now, come on. There’s a wolf to catch.”
