Chapter XXX
Jaxon
H e poured another glass of scotch, before standing to face the large window behind his desk and exhaled deeply before he spoke.
“Over 200 years ago, it was prophesied that a set of Gemini born of Holy light and exalted by brimstone had the potential to change the realms as we know it. They would have the immense power to heal or destroy. Together they would either recreate Eden or bring forth the apocalypse. Personally, I don’t want either,” he said, looking at me from over his shoulder before turning back to survey his kingdom.
“I refuse to go back to the days when God ruled Earth unchecked and mortals were slaves to her command, but not even I can control the Horsemen from decimating everything in their path if they are awakened. I fear for the Armageddon that will be unleashed should either of these paths come to fruition.”
“And you think Emily plays a part in this prophecy? Why?” I asked.
From the accounts I’d heard, the Horsemen were the strongest beings in creation, a fail safe created by God herself in case it was deemed necessary.
What the Hell did my Sweet Witch have to do with any of this? Sure, her mother had been a member of that coven, but there was no way she could be destined to produce such an outcome.
Deep down I knew that wasn’t true though.
I could feel her magic and the strength of the aura that surrounded her. She was extraordinarily powerful. If anyone had the power to do these things, it was her.
Fuck. Her and Charlie.
Even I, a son of Lucifer, had a hard time withstanding the magic that flowed unknowingly between them when they were in the same room.
Could they really be the Gemini that were prophesied?
Father turned and faced me, setting down his untouched drink and braced his hands on the desk as I mentally paired up birth months and their corresponding zodiacs. From what I knew, my Sweet Witch was born on the 31st day of May. I had no idea when Charlie’s day of birth was, but based on the duality of their powers and their bond, I was willing to bet that she was the other half of the whole.
“The Twins can create life itself and alternatively bring forth death and destruction,” he reiterated, drawing my attention back to him.
“It’s said that the Gemini twins were born of divine intervention, therefore making them not only Witches of immeasurable power, carrying the blood of thousands of ancestors before them, but the Holy Light of an Angel as well. I’m not certain that she is in fact one of the two, but that’s why I’ve had you and your brother researching the coven. I sent Killian on a mission to destroy the Harbingers,” he admitted.
“You what?” I barked, standing from my chair and shaking his desk as I slammed my fists down.
“Settle,” he demanded, waiting for me to regain my composure.
“This wasn’t the first mission that I’d assigned and it was long before you got involved. Many lesser Demons have attempted to - remove them, since birth. None have returned. I try to keep tabs on you all when you’re topside, but my people lost track of Killian altogether before he stopped checking in,” he said, dragging his fingers through his dark shoulder length hair. “Your brother told me that the threats were terminated and no longer a concern, but he never returned.”
We all knew the risks of war, but when it came to his sons, Lucifer would destroy everything in his path if it meant protecting us.
“We need to know our threats and make sure that the Twins do not fall into the hands of our enemies. I will not ask you to split your soul or kill your Maritus , but it is now your duty to stay with her at all costs.”
My nostrils flared at the mention of her dying. I wouldn’t fucking allow it. I’d burn everything to the ground and spit in its ashes to protect her from harm.
“Look into this matter and if need be, remove her from Earth by any means necessary. You must locate the other. Make sure they remain a pair and out of Heaven’s grasp. Check in with your team, but when you return to Earth, be sure to not leave your Witch’s side. If she’s as powerful as prophesied, we may need her for the coming battles and I will not see her fall into the wrong hands.”
“Yes, Father,” I said, standing from my chair with a bow.
He stared at me for a long time, with pity and defeat in his eyes, before picking his glass back up and turning towards the window.
Fucking Hell.
My Sweet Witch was an Angel. Not only that, but now I was being tasked to stay with her and keep her safe. That was a done deal before he’d even decreed it.
I blinked to Voluptas, the pleasure district. It had always been my territory, but it would be mine to rule once my brothers and I were all home again. I’d need to speak with Cadell right away and make sure that everything was still well with our numbers and security. My coronation was only three months away at this point and I was ready to take my rightful place as King.
With my Queen at my side.
As my lead Incubus, Cardell had things well in hand in my absence, but I couldn’t be sure how much longer I’d be away. If I was to bring Emily to Voluptas to rule alongside me, I needed to make sure that my sector was secure from any possible breaches.
“Your Majesty,” a seductive voice purred in my ear from behind, making my skin crawl as I entered the Sin Bin.
The establishment I ran here in Hell was where most of my higher ranking retired Incubi and Succubi worked to train the new recruits and provide services to the inhabitants of Hell.
Isabel had been one of my top Succubi for over eight-hundred years and while I’d once enjoyed my brief time with her, I did not appreciate the way her hands ran up my tense shoulders and down my chest as she pawed at me from behind.
Gripping her wrist tightly, I turned to face her. I squeezed her delicate wrist in warning and summoned Hell’s Fire within my palm, scalding her, before stepping away and releasing her. She hissed out a breath as she cradled her blistered wrist to her chest.
“Izzy, how can I help you?” I asked coldly.
Isabel was power-hungry and determined. Two things that made one of the best Succubi I’d employed. I’d known that, and still I’d foolishly fucked her like the whore she was.
She wanted to be Queen and would do anything she could to dig her claws in and manipulate her way to the top. Hell, at this point I was surprised she hadn’t tried to go after my father. Then again, that would probably end up in a death sentence for her if my mother, Lilith, had anything to say about it.
“And here I was wondering how I could help you, my Lord,” she cooed seductively, regaining her charisma.
“I’m here to check in with Cadell, this isn’t a social call,” I told her, glancing at my wrist watch to check the time.
I’d already been away from Emily for about a day and I was anxious to return as quickly as possible. If she was in fact one of the prophesized Gemini, then I needed to be there with her. Father was right, the Angels wouldn’t rest until Heaven took over Earth and I refused to let her be a pawn in our battle for either side.
“Well, he isn’t here. He left with a team to go topside a few days ago,” she said, rolling her eyes before inspecting her long red nails. “I could give him a message when he returns, though.”
“Isabel,” I growled, narrowing my eyes. “Let me make one thing abundantly clear. You are not my second, nor are you part of the Sin Cupids. Your place is here in the Sin Bin, so stay out of my affairs and get back to work,” I told her as I took a menacing step toward her. “And the next time you lay a finger on me, I won't hesitate to incinerate you. Understood?”
Her gaze turned icy before she smoothed out her features and smiled sweetly. “Yes, your Majesty,” she said, venom lacing her tone.
With Cadell away there was no point in staying any longer. It was time for me to return to my Sweet Witch.
