Chapter 26
Khol
I hadn’t ripped her apart. She’d found pleasure. And me?
I’d fallen completely in love with this woman. It wasn’t just the amazing sex; it was her. The softness of her touch. The way she looked at me as if I was all she’d ever need. The way she so willingly shared her daughter with me.
We slept in each other’s arms, but only for a short time.
“Presents,” she finally said. “Then you’re going to ride me. Will you do that for me, Khol?”
“I’ll try.” My laugh burst out along with hers. We’d more than tried and it had been amazing.
We slipped from the bed, and I helped her dress in a soft gown that only came to her mid-thighs. She wore nothing beneath and that was all I was going to be able to think about .
What we’d done . . . I held her face as she gazed up at me so sweetly, and I thanked the fates and anyone who might be listening for bringing this woman to me. For the first time since I couldn’t remember when, I felt complete.
I kissed her, and it was hard to end it and step back. But I wanted to work with the house spirit to craft my own gifts. They needed to be under the tree when we rose in the morning.
Holding hands, we left the bedroom and went to the kitchen area, the best place to make requests of the house spirit.
“No peeking or listening,” Nancy said with a smile. “Some of these things are for you.” She cleared her throat. “House spirit? I’d like . . .” Leaning close to the counter, she whispered.
I did my best not to overhear and moved farther along the counter to do the same thing.
Each item emerged from the counter already wrapped in bright cloth. Smaller items were stuffed into the stockings.
After a short time, presents lay mounded beneath our pretty tree. We stood beside it, holding hands again, and sent each other grins.
Christmas was coming.
“To bed,” Nancy announced, squeezing my hand. “You’ve got a promise to keep.”
“One I can’t wait to fulfill.” Not long ago, I worried I’d hurt her. I should’ve trusted the clan spirit to send someone who perfectly fit into my life.
Two, with Flora. The child of my heart. The youngling of my soul. I would be the best parent possible .
We paused outside our bedroom.
“I’ll peek in on Flora,” Nancy whispered. “Wait up for me?”
“Always.” I kissed her deeply, savoring the thrill rushing through me, the way my body had already started responding.
She stepped back and after giving my bare chest a caress, she opened Flora’s door.
Her gasp rang out, and I joined her in the opening.
Flora wasn’t in her bed.
