M ia
The next morning, Mia woke up at King’s house with her head resting against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. He was still asleep, and she smiled as she gazed at his handsome, relaxed face. She didn’t want to leave, but she knew she had to be careful. This thing between them was all so new, and she didn’t want to presume anything.
She got out of bed as quietly as she could and reached for King’s discarded shirt from the night before. She slipped the flannel on, inhaling his scent that was still on it, and made her way to the kitchen. Spying the coffee maker on the counter, she searched around until she found everything she’d need to make a pot. After hitting the on button, she reached for King’s phone where he’d placed it on the counter. She needed to call Sammy.
“Good morning,” Mia said softly, bracing herself for the third degree.
“Well good morning to you, too!” Sammy said in a chipper tone. “I got King’s text last night. I see you’re still at his house.”
Well, she was using his phone. “Yeah, I’m here,” Mia replied. “I just made a pot of coffee.” She leaned against the counter and watched as the pot slowly filled with the dark brew, wondering vaguely why he didn’t have a Keurig.
“Hmmm. Already playing house?” There was laughter in her voice. “You two move fast.”
“Hopefully not too fast.” Mia hadn’t meant to say it out loud. “I’ve never had a one-night stand before.” It felt like more to her, but she wasn’t going to admit that.
“You sound funny. You’re not having the morning after regrets, are you?” Sammy asked with slight amusement in her tone. “King is a great guy, honey, and a good catch. I doubt he’s looking at this as a one-night stand.”
Mia chuckled, brushing off Sammy’s comment about King being a good catch. Sammy wasn’t telling her anything she didn’t already know. “Everything’s okay, Cuz. If I sound funny, it’s because I’m trying to keep my voice down. King is still sleeping.”
A giggle came over the line. “Oh. Wore him out, did you?”
“Oh, my God, you didn’t just say that!” Mia whispered with disbelief and a smile from ear to ear. “If anything, he wore me out. The man has amazing stamina for his age.” She’d woken several times during the night to his hands and mouth on her.
Sammy giggled. “Well, age is just a number, and he looks to be in peak condition.”
Mia agreed with Sammy’s assessment, but she didn’t say anything.
“You have to tell me all about it.”
“You drove my car home, right?”
“Um...no I forgot I had your keys until I got home.”
Mia frowned, wondering how Sammy had gotten home if she hadn’t taken her car.
Sammy seemed hesitant. “Ben ended up bringing me home. Sorry, I can take you to get your car later.”
“Not a problem, Cuz. I’m only glad you’re not mad at me for deserting you.”
“So when are you coming home?”
“Soon.” King would have to take her to get her car first, but then she remembered that Sammy had her keys. “Why? Have you made plans for us?” Mia heard a low voice mumble something in the background, and her eyes widened as she realized that Sammy wasn’t alone. “Oh, my God! Is that Ben? Did he spend the night? Did you two—”
“I am not going to answer that!” Sammy whispered harshly into the phone. But Mia could hear the lightheartedness come across in her tone. “We’ll talk when you get home. Okay?”
The firmness of her words told Mia that she wasn’t budging, and if Mia knew her cousin, Sammy was probably blushing ten shades of red because Ben was probably standing right next to her. It appeared that they both had stories to share.
Happy for her, Mia hung up the phone and turned to see King standing behind her with his arms crossed and a sexy smile on his face. He’d slipped into briefs that did little to disguise the prominent outline of his cock. She smiled back at him when their eyes met.
“Good morning, beautiful.” He had that gruff morning voice going on, raspy and sexy, and it did something pleasant to Mia’s insides. “How’d you sleep?”
She wondered how long he’d been listening. “I slept well,” she said. “You?”
“I slept like a rock,” he said. “Once I got to sleep.” The look in his eyes told Mia that he wasn’t complaining. “I haven’t slept that well in a long time. Thank you.”
“I’m the one that should be thanking you,” she murmured, suddenly feeling shy. “From what I remember, you made me feel amazing.” At least four times. She was a sticky mess and slightly sore between her legs.
They’d moved on from talking about sleep to sex. And sex with King had been mind-blowing. Maybe because it was new and different, and Mia had never been with anyone but Jerry. She thought about his ex, Sheila, and felt envy that she’d had him for so many years.
King lowered his arms and began to walk slowly toward her. His eyes roamed over Mia lazily and appreciatively. He apparently liked his flannel shirt on her. “I didn’t do anything you didn’t want me to,” he reminded her.
Realizing that she hadn’t done up any of the buttons, Mia reached up to take care of it, but King wasn’t having any of it. His big hand encircled her slender wrists to stop her, and he pulled Mia easily against him.
“Don’t you dare cover up this beautiful view,” he rasped. He slipped his hands inside the shirt against her waist and continued around to her naked bottom. “Gorgeous tits. Tight pussy. Nice ass.” He lowered his head. “All the things I like in my women.”
Before Mia knew it, King was grinding his mouth down on hers and stealing her breath away. With his hands squeezing her bottom and the hard ridge of his cock rubbing against her, she was instantly lost in the sensation.
“Are you hungry, baby?”
“I could eat,” she smiled.
“I was thinking about what you said last night,” King began, not releasing her. “How you wanted me to take you to breakfast. If you want, we can go out to eat.”
“That sounds wonderful,” Mia agreed. “But I’ll need to go home afterward.” And she also wanted to go to the bathroom and clean up a little.
“Okay. I have to meet the guys later this morning. We have a job to finish up. Let’s go out to breakfast, and then we’ll part ways. How does that sound?”
“It sounds like a plan,” she agreed.
King gave her a hug. As they surrounded each other, he ran his fingers through her hair and kissed her neck “You’re so damned sexy,” he rasped.
“Thank you,” she said, blushing. “I could say the same thing about you.” Their eyes met.
King released a deep breath. “Let’s get ready and go.”
It didn’t take them long to get dressed, and then Mia followed King out to his truck. She hadn’t eaten in a long time and was suddenly starving. Their mini sex marathon had definitely been the equivalent of a strenuous workout and had consumed energy and burned up a lot of calories.
The restaurant King took them to was just down the street, a small house that had been converted into a restaurant, not unusual in Maine. King led her inside and they were seated right away. Mia felt a little awkward as she sat down at their table and saw the speculative looks she received by the other occupants as they greeted King enthusiastically.
“Would you like something to drink?” the server asked as they got settled.
“I’ll have coffee,” Mia said. “And could you please bring a glass of water?”
King held up two fingers to indicate for the server to bring two coffees and she left. He returned his attention to Mia. “Water? No bloody Mary?” he teased.
“I don’t drink this early in the day,” Mia smiled. “And I don’t like tomato juice.”
“What do you like?” His words were suggestive. The twinkle in his eyes revealed that he wasn’t talking about something as mundane as what she liked to drink.
“Water,” Mia laughed.
“What about beer?”
“I hate beer,” she shuddered.
“That’s a shame,” King replied. “There are so many great beers out there.”
“I’ve never been a fan.”
The server returned with two cups of coffee and a glass of water.
She was young enough to be King’s daughter, but that didn’t prevent her from settling her gaze on him in a flirty way. “Would you like anything to eat?”
King motioned for Mia to go first. “I’ll have the Belgian waffle and bacon,” she ordered.
“I’ll have the steak and eggs,” King said.
After the young woman left, King leaned across the table. “What was Sammy’s reaction when you told her you were still at my place?”
“She wasn’t surprised,” Mia responded. “I didn’t tell her what happened between us, but I think she’s smart enough to figure it out.”
“Are you going to tell her?” King reached for his coffee with a grin on his face.
“I’m sure she’ll figure it out,” Mia winked mischievously. “And you did text her last night. I’ve never gone home with a guy for a one-night stand. It just isn’t me.”
The expression on King’s face revealed that he didn’t like what Mia had just said. His eyes hardened. “Let’s clear something up right now, sugar. It wasn’t a one-night stand.”
“You’re just saying that because you want to get laid again,” she teased, trying to lighten his sudden change in mood.
“No,” King was quick to rebuke, his voice serious. “I mean it. I like you. And I intend to fuck you every chance I get.”
Mia quivered at his blunt words, her core clenching. She glanced around nervously, praying no one had heard, and licked her lips before facing him again. “I like you too.”
King nodded with satisfaction. “Good. Glad we could clear that up. The rest will take care of itself.”
The pretty server arrived with their food, and they ate their meal in silence. Mia hadn’t realized how hungry she was, and she devoured her entire waffle. The meal was just what she needed, and she noticed that King had cleared his plate too. She’d heard of people having steak for breakfast but couldn’t fathom eating one herself.
“That was good. I don’t usually eat the whole thing.” Mia pushed her plate away and reached for her coffee.
King laughed, set his utensils on his empty plate, and wiped his mouth with his napkin. “You burned up a lot of calories during the night.”
“That’s true,” Mia giggled, feeling a warm blush fill her cheeks. “I was moving around a lot.”
“I’ll say,” he laughed. “I can’t wait to see you again. I have to go though. I have to be at the site soon.”
“Maybe I can call you later?” she said, hesitating. “Ask those questions we have.”
King nodded, got to his feet, and reached for something in his back pocket. “That sounds good.”
He took care of the bill and the two of them left the restaurant and went to his truck. He opened her door, helping her in before walking around and getting in himself. “Do you need to go back to the legion hall and pick up your car?” he asked as he started the engine and shifted into reverse.
She shook her head. “You’ll need to take me home. My car is at the legion hall, but Sammy has my keys. She can take me to get it later.”
“No problem,” King responded with a nod of his head.
The journey was short, and before long King was pulling up in front of the house. He put his truck in neutral and walked around to help her out before walking her to the front door. “Call me tonight. I really want to answer those questions,” he smirked.
“I will,” Mia promised.
King leaned down and kissed her, tugging lightly on her bottom lip with his teeth before pulling away. “I’ll see you soon, beautiful.”
Mia followed King’s truck with her eyes until she couldn’t see him anymore. There was something special about him. Something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. Maybe it was the way he made her feel, or the way he looked at her with those intense eyes. Whatever it was, she knew that she wanted to see him again.
She couldn’t wait to call him and hear his voice again.
