DONOVAN
She’s perfect.
Well, perfect for what we need.
It doesn’t hurt that she smells delicious, too.
Cinnamon and brown sugar—a delicate aroma I could inhale for the rest of my life.
I took in her scent greedily, enjoying every moment she stood near me.
And the best part is she didn’t recognize me.
She wasn’t fazed by my credit card. She didn’t try to flirt.
She just didn’t care about any of that.
And that’s exactly what my pack and I need.
I expected her to say no when I asked her to dinner, but I’m forever grateful to her friends that obviously wanted her to go with me.
When I’m back at my hotel that evening, she texts me.
Hi, it’s April from the café. Where did you want to meet for dinner?
Meet? She thinks I’m meeting her there?
Absolutely not.
I’ll be picking you up. What is your address?
There are text bubbles on the screen, then nothing.
I frown. Maybe I shouldn’t push her. I don’t want to waste this opportunity, especially now that she’s agreed to dinner with me. And despite her delicious scent, I could sense her hesitation and the tiniest amount of fear emanating from her at the café.
I intimidate, sure. I can command a room.
But I would never want her to fear me.
After all, this is a business dinner, not a date.
“Fuck,” I mutter, running a hand through my hair.
This was irrational of me. I acted on a gut feeling but I learned not to trust those a long time ago.
And if Liam and Hunter knew what I’d done, they’d be shocked.
It’s supposed to be a decision all three of us make—to invite an Omega into our world—but I’m jumping the gun based on instincts.
But she’s the first Omega in a long time that didn’t try to flirt or win me over. She didn’t bat her eyelashes or make meaningless conversation because she knew who I was.
She didn’t recognize me, and I was able to appreciate who she was.
A smart, beautiful business owner.
There was no pretense, and it was refreshing, even if the conversation was only a few moments.
The chocolate chip cookie she gave me sits on the coffee table, untouched.
I’m not really a sweets person. Too bad it wasn’t Hunter she offered it to.
Curious, I break off a piece of the cookie and pop it into my mouth. The sweetness hit my tongue, a perfect balance of salt and sugar followed by the richness of the chocolate.
What. The. Fuck.
It’s delicious.
I audibly groan at the taste.
No wonder the café has won awards for their cookies.
It’s the best damn thing I’ve ever tasted.
It reminds me a bit of April’s scent, and my cock twitches in response.
Fucking ridiculous. If Hunter or Liam knew about my reaction, they would never let me hear the end of it.
I wrap the rest of the cookie in the napkin and heave a sigh, drumming my fingers on my knee.
This dinner has to go well. She has to say yes to me.
When she replies an hour later with her address, I breathe a sigh of relief.
Now, all that’s left is to do is come to an agreement.
