Chapter twenty-one
Luz
“ F un?”
“Yes, love. Fun,” Everest said, prowling closer.
Acid churned in my gut.
Despite my bravado, Alister’s word had stuck with me, the familiar pang of guilt returning.
Women were dead and missing, and somehow, all of it was linked to me.
“It’s getting late.” I moved toward the dresser to unpack my things.
I was here to protect Autumn and find the killer. Fun didn’t factor into it.
A lean but steely arm wrapped around me. “Au contraire,” he whispered in my ear, grabbing my hand to spin me out dramatically as if we were ballroom dancing, before snapping me back tight against his chest and shifting his hips into mine.
“All the best things happen in the dark, and we’re just getting started, so, in fact, it’s early.” He started to move his feet, and his hands went to my shoulders and waist as he began to effortlessly lead me in a waltz . . .
“Where did you learn to dance like this?”
Oh, the devil liked that.
“Prep school. I went to Gravenhurst, the best of the best, along with Lucian.”
“Ah,” I said, “another poor little rich boy.”
Two steps forward, one step backward . . .
“Not quite, I was a scholarship student.” Everest raised one arm to twirl me around. “Know anyone else like that, darling?”
I scoffed. “And you think that means we’re the same?”
“Not at all, Starbright. Similar in some respects.” His hand around my waist tightened, and he circled his hips into me suggestively. “But the same, no. ”
“What are you doing?” Alister’s voice broke through my reverie like a record screeching. My feet became lead, and I stumbled, forcing Everest to keep me upright.
“I’m dancing with our girl, Ali, what’s it look like?”
When it became apparent that I wasn’t moving anymore, he simply picked me up off the ground and began swinging me around, my feet brushing the carpet.
“She’s not our anything.” Alister’s voice was harsh, and for some reason, his words cut me deeper than I anticipated.
“It’s time for me to go to bed,” I said, trying to wiggle out of Everest’s grasp.
“No,” the stubborn sociopath said as he placed me on the ground, only to spin me around to face Alister and pin my back flush against his chest.
Everest wrapped his arms around my waist, just under my breasts, and pulled me in even closer while Alister’s eyes tracked every movement.
Warmth flushed through me from head to core.
“I say we play a game, one of those getting to know you exercises, since we are going to be roomies,” Everest said, nuzzling the side of my head.
“Icebreakers,” I mumbled, still acutely aware of his forearm brushing up against my breasts .
A warm palm slid under my sweater and splayed across my stomach. All the blood in my body rushed to my core, and I squeezed my thighs together.
Alister said nothing, now totally fixated on where Everest’s hand was slowly making its way higher and higher up my body.
“See, Ali,” Everest murmured, as he worked his way to my neck. “Our girl is smart.” He nipped at my earlobe, causing me to shudder.
“What kind of game?” The words fell out of my mouth without reason.
“Truth or dare?”
“Pass,” I said immediately.
“Scared?” Alister taunted, stepping closer.
“Smart, like Everest said.”
“Fine, what about a truth for a truth?” Everest said.
“And give up all my secrets? Never,” I taunted, serious as I was.
“Truth or touch then,” he pushed.
“That’s not a game,” I whined as Everest’s knuckles ran up the inside of my breast.
“Sure, it is.” He began to walk backward toward the bed, taking me with him. “I just made it up.”
“It’s not a game if you just made it up,” I argued .
“Of course it is. How does anything become something if someone doesn’t make it up first? Tell her I’m right, Ali.”
“What are the rules?” Alister said instead, shrugging off his jacket.
“Mmm,” Everest mumbled as he continued to tease me. “It’s simple, really. Everyone gets one turn to ask someone else a question, and you either have to give them the truth . . .”
Another sharp bite to my earlobe sent a jolt through me.
“ . . . or let them touch you any way they choose.”
That sounded dangerous. “I don’t—?”
“Shhh.” Everest placed a single finger on my lips. “It’s not your turn, darling. It’s Ali’s. Be a good sport.”
He pulled the two of us onto the bed, seating me between his long legs with one arm still around my waist and the other wrapped across my thigh as he gently nudged my legs wider.
Alister stepped forward silently until he filled the space between them. Thumbing my chin, he forced me to look at him. “Why does the killer send you hearts, petite diablesse?”
“If you think I’m going to spill my guts to you because—Ah! ”
Everest’s hand had shot up from my waist to pinch my nipple, hard. The unexpected shock of pain sent a ripple of frisson of need through me that made my head spin.
“Truth, love,” he chided. “Now, one last chance before Lurch over there gets to touch you.”
“You can’t just—Oooo.”
He twisted my nipple again as he reclined onto the bed, taking me with him.
Everest wrapped his ankles around mine and used them to spread my legs wider while Alister followed us. He towered over me at this angle, and even though I was still fully clothed, it felt as if Everest was laying me out bare for him to ravish.
“She’s all yours, Ali,” he declared.
Alister’s tongue slipped out to wet his lips as he took me in with a long, leisurely look. He flexed his hands, splaying his fingers wide and placing them on my hips where my sweater met my pants.
“Move,” he barked, and I twitched in Everest’s arms to obey.
“He’s talking to me.” The man behind me snickered as he slid his arms down and to my sides, still holding me tight.
Another flush made me hot .
“But I like how responsive you are, Starbright. What a good girl you want to be for us.” Alister began to push my sweater up. He moved at an agonizingly slow pace, carefully revealing each inch of my tan skin.
My flesh pebbled under his touch. “I’m not a good girl.”
Ali chuckled, and a rare smile broke out on his face. “No. No, you’re not.”
He pushed the sweater up and over my simple white T-shirt bra. My breasts ached with heaviness, and when his large hands palmed them, I let out a low whine of relief.
Alister rolled my nipples between his thumbs and fingers through the lining of my bra, causing me to arch my back, throwing my head over Everest’s shoulder.
Cool, nimble fingers traced their way up my spine, and Everest undid my bra with a preternatural swiftness, loosening it so Alister could expose my peaked nipples.
Before I could even consider protesting, Alister descended on them with the fervor of a man starved.
He took one, then the other roughly in his mouth, holding my flesh taut between his teeth before sucking me in so hard it stung.
I had never attempted to make myself orgasm from nipple stimulation alone, but he had me so close I could feel tears welling in my eyes and a tremor building in my legs as he used his mouth and hands to work me into a frenzy .
“She’s close, Ali,” Everest said, still not touching me beyond restraining and exposing me for the other man.
Alister groped my breast so harshly I could feel the ache in my ribs. Wetness gushed between my legs, and I found myself desperately needing that little bit more.
The same hand suddenly thrust itself down my underwear, expertly zeroing in on my clit to thumb it roughly at the same time as he bit down hard on my nipple.
I screamed as the world went black for a moment and stars exploded behind my eyes.
“Fuck, Starbright, I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of hearing your screams.”
Alister continued to roughly toy with my clit until I came down from the rush of my orgasm and shoved him off me, Everest having released me when I became a whimpering mess in his arms.
My chest heaved as I lay sprawled across Everest and the bed, breasts still exposed.
“Gimme.”
Everest wrapped around me from behind to lean forward, and I shuddered as Alister pushed his tattooed fingers deep into his mouth. Everest laved Alister’s finger with his tongue until he had removed every trace of me from it.
He pulled himself off with a pop .
“Delicious.” Everest hummed, closing his eyes and sighing before speaking again. “Your turn, Luz. Who do you want to make play?”
My head was still spinning from my orgasm, and my brain stalled as I considered my options.
If I asked Everest, I had no doubt what option he would choose. “Alister,” I said, my voice still uneven.
He cocked a brow at me. I supposed that was his surprised look.
“Truth or touch,” I whispered.
Alister stood up straight. “Truth.”
Merde, now that I had the choice, what did I even want to know?
“Choose wisely,” Everest teased.
“Your tattoos, what do they mean?”
“Ouch, darling. A swing and a—?”
“Nothing, they mean absolutely nothing to me.” His toneless voice overtook Everest’s toying one.
From anyone else, the interruption might have come across as defensive, indicative of a lie. But coming from Alister, it was simply a fact.
“What do you mean ‘nothing’? You’re covered in them, and not a single one means anything to you?”
“They’re Nix’s,” he said, as if that explained everything.
“Yes, I know you have the same tattoos . . . ”
Alister looked down the length of his nose at me, as if I were an imbecile. “No, they’re Nixon’s tattoos. He wanted them, he designed them, I only have them for him.”
“What does—?”
“Shhh.” Everest reached from behind me to place a finger over my mouth again. “You get one truth, Starbright. Keep pushing and you’re going to rack up another one of those punishments you like so much from tall, blond, and broody over there. Now, I do believe it’s my turn.”
Everest hummed, tapping his finger over my lips. “Hmmm, I wonder who I am going to choose.”
I rolled my eyes at him, only to receive a sharp smack to my breast from Alister.
I bit down hard on my lip.
“Behave.”
“Oh, I know! Alister, truth or touch?”
The man in question rolled his eyes. “My brother would kill me. Truth.”
Still drowsy with pleasure, I relaxed into Everest and closed my eyes, eager to hear what he would pull out of Ali.
“When did you first notice our Starbright?”
My breath hitched, and I cracked open my eyes.
Alister sat back down on the bed. “It was the first day of classes,” he began, and surprise overtook me. “Some asshole on a scooter knocked her over, and I was hoping she would cry. She didn’t.”
He paused, peering at me intensely.
“She stood, looking at him with murder in her eyes.”
Desire, and something darker, smoldered in his gaze, and I swallowed.
“And from that moment, I was obsessed.”
