Glory
Yes. I knew what they all thought. I would argue with Legend’s offer to protect me. Nope. I’d waited for too long to hear him say what he’d just said, ‘We are officially a couple.’ My heart leapt and my mind could only think…we are finally together! This was all that mattered to me. I often needed to remind my brothers about how I’d been trained in the same arts of defense and offense as they had. This was different though.
Legend was officially mine! I couldn’t believe that my dad had asked about our wedding. I could barely grasp this dream. Ever since I was a young teen, I dreamed of my wedding with Legend. I would never tell anyone about it as I knew they would think it was silly. But when a girl dreams of that so young in life, she’s got it bad for a guy. And I did have it bad. The very few girls on my actual friends list had asked me…why him? Yes, he was cute, they had agreed, but they would point out that he wasn’t like some of the other members in Requiem. Inked with bad boy vibes, tough and largely muscled.
None of that mattered to me. Growing up in an MC, seeing guys like that seemed redundant. The main reason I couldn’t resist falling for Legend had been those eyes of his, wow they always got to me. Panty melting eyes, they would call it. His leanly muscled hard body ? and whenever I got to see it ? that wonderful, warm smile. Those were the traits that had gotten to me over the years. Then we all admired his actual attitude and nature. The man couldn’t have been anything else but a doctor. He cared about people more than any person I had ever met. So yes, I admired him too. It hadn’t been just a physical attraction. He had qualities that made me love him.
Yes, it was love for me and it had been since I was twenty. I admit that before that it may have been just a crush. When I was a young teen, I’d been a huge pain in the ass to everyone, I would admit it outright too. And because of my in your face attitude and competitive nature, I’d also managed to one up my twin brothers in the Prank Wars as it was infamously known now.
So recently, I’d tried to be an adult while carrying this torch that had been lit for almost a decade. I realized I was still acting like a kid. Like a teen crushing on a guy and I tried to stand aside. What do you do when you love someone and pine away for them for that long? Well, I’d tried to push it away. Especially when he seemed to ignore me or he would avoid me. That had always hurt.
Finally, on my birthday a few months ago, I could see that he did notice me. I even caught him staring at me, many times. He would look away but once I saw the pattern, I knew he liked me too. This did encourage me and I refused to give up. So during my birthday bash, I really pushed it. That was before I got snatched by that nutcase cousin of ours. I planned that event well… and yes, the red dress had been my pièce de ré·sistance, so to speak. My secret weapon as I hoped he would literally see me finally. Maybe even recognize me as a sensuous woman and not a kid.
So later that night, I was just plain angry because I had seen his mouth pop open when he’d spotted me in the bodycon red dress. He couldn’t seem to help it, he stared and stared. So when my gaze locked with his I could see his face had flamed to a bright pink and he flipped around to leave the room. I caught up with him and looped my arm through his. I’d asked him if he would dance with me when the band started to play.
He said yes, then rushed away.
I’d been ecstatic that he had agreed to dance with me and I waited till the band struck up again. I had just the song in mind, a slow song so I could push my slinky, red dressed curves right up against him. So my heart had been beating wildly off and on in anticipation for the next hour during that party. Ended up when the time came, he told me he couldn’t dance and refused to take me out to the floor.
My brothers had been watching all of this with exasperated expressions on their faces. Liberty had even laughed—until I gut punched him. That was when my dad had called to me about blowing out the candles. Then after everyone got their piece of cake, I ended up making a whispered offer to Legend for us to share our cake in my room. Instead of agreeing, he said that would be way too much sugar. Well, that had done it. All I saw was humiliation at every turn. Disgusted and angry, I then ‘cake faced’ Legend. Cake face was now something my brothers snickered over whenever the subject of cake came up. That term did arise during the reception when the cake cutting happened with the brides and grooms. But I had felt so emotional over the weddings and Legend’s aloofness at that moment, I didn’t care.
I admit I ignored my family’s happy celebration as I kept trying to figure out why Legend kept away from me. Yes, I know it should have been obvious. I was the Walker-daughter-slash-little sister. He believed he would get his ass kicked. I would growl at my brothers whenever they gave me disapproving looks or when they would tell me to leave the poor man alone. But I never felt that had been the real reason he had repeatedly turned me down. He never acted scared of my brothers and they had never shown him anything but respect and brotherly-like support.
I never knew why he kept us apart until his father and brother showed up. Then I finally figured it out. His family was mafia and he didn’t want us mixed up with that. Well, too bad. Him and I were meant to be.
So it took a double wedding to make it happen…And here I sat with him today. We spent the night in my bed just last night and wow, was he everything and more than I had ever dreamed. I felt super smug too. Why? Well, I had been right all along, we were pure wildfire together and we fit like two pieces of the same puzzle.
We all said goodbye to my dad and finally sat down for breakfast. It was closer to lunch time now. I sat as close to Legend as I could and not suffocate him. Suffocate him? I almost giggled aloud. Last night I’d almost done just that. For all these years, I sat somewhere else during meals. Or I would sit a seat or two away. Always wishing I was next to him. Now…we would sit together. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to loop my arm around his and lean my head onto his shoulder.
“Well, hallefuckinglujah!”
We looked up.
A smiling Uncle Zed stood there as he exclaimed, “It finally happened?” he asked in shock.
I beamed at him as I silently nodded my head.
“Yes Zed, it has,” Legend said as he grinned at him.
“We’ve been waiting for this for…” Uncle Zed paused.
“Five years?” I suggested.
“Yes, about that long maybe.” He shrugged as he locked eyes with me. “But I’m glad you both waited a little while. Cause at twenty…You weren’t ready, little girl.”
I smiled at him. “Maybe, but I hung in there. I mean it only took a double wedding to wake him up.”
Legend chuckled.
Uncle Zed smiled as he looked pretty happy about this. “Have you told Jarret?” he asked Legend.
Nodding, he replied, “Liberty dialed him. We were on the phone with him a few minutes ago.”
I wouldn’t jump on Uncle Zed for butting in, like I would do if it had been any of my brothers. He was my only uncle after all and I loved the man dearly. My mom’s brother and Prophet’s dad, they were all we had left of my mother’s family.
“Yeah, he’s been waiting for this too.” Zed laughed.
Legend shook his head.
“Seems like everyone has been waiting, Uncle Zed.” I beamed at him.
“But especially you, girl.” He laughed.
“Yes, yes.” I squeezed Legend’s upper arm with my fingers. “And it finally paid off.”
“And y’all got the text about the zoom thing?” Uncle Zed asked.
“You mean the meeting for the battle?” Legend asked.
Zed’s smile faded from his face. “Yep, that’s the one.” He slowly shook his head as he shoved his hands into his jean pockets.
“Why do you look so worried, Uncle Zed?” I asked in concern. “They have an entire army with the Rebel Saints.”
“I know, but I won’t be there when they go to war. I’m on duty here and I worry about them all.”
Uncle Zed was the one Jarret had wanted to run the Requiem here while Redemption was gone. That was why he had already returned to the clubhouse a month back.
Legend and I went quiet. What could we say?
“I’m thinking your father is already hunting for Deacon though,” Uncle Zed said as he gave Legend a nod.
Legend looked troubled. “I didn’t want him involved.”
‘Like you’re gonna stop that man from doing anything.” Zed scoffed.
“That’s what I think,” I agreed. “Legend and I are going to visit him and Legend’s family.”
Zed looked surprised, then he nodded. “It might be a good idea. You’ll be safe there.”
I shook my head. “Why does everyone keep saying that?”
“Deacon kidnapped you, Glory,” Legend stated. “I mean you don’t seem to realize…” His voice fell away.
I stared at him and saw the pain in his eyes. “Ohhh, Legend. I never thought about…”
Turning, he faced me. “We all suffered.”
Uncle Zed nodded. “Legend was a mess. His feelings for you showed then.”
I rolled my eyes. “Too bad, I never saw that.”
Legend laughed now. “You are such a brat.”
I grinned at him. “At least you know what you’re getting into.”
Uncle Zed laughed with us. “Oh, I’m sure he knows what he’s getting into, little Glory. So just behave, ok? I will talk to you both later.” He paused and stared at us as he stated quietly, “I am very happy to see you together and I cannot wait for the wedding.” With a wink at us, he then moved away.
“Wow, they all just have me married off, already,” I noted with a laugh.
“About that…” Legend tapped my nose with his finger. “How am I gonna surprise you with a proposal when they all keep bringing it up?”
I laughed and then explained to him, “I am still in a state of utter astonishment that you finally relented and became my boyfriend. So don’t worry because when you propose, I will be in a state of shock all over again.”
We both stared at each other then we laughed together.
We heard female laughter joining ours and looked up.
There stood my new sister in laws. Scarlet, Briget and Belle. They were all beaming at us.
I smiled back at them.
“We are so happy about this!” Briget said as she looked animated.
Belle leaned in to hug me. “You were the one who made me realize how I felt about Liberty. So I am especially happy for you.”
“Nah, don’t thank me for that. You will have more than a few migraines. Liberty is helluva annoying,” I quipped.
Belle laughed.
“Wait, what did Glory do to make you realize that?” Briget asked Belle.
“I was in the middle of trying to ignore him,” Belle said as she chuckled. “She stopped me in the media room at Connor House. She just came out with it and honestly, I had never thought of it like that before. Love, I mean. Something like…When it hits, it’s mighty. When you fall, it is deep. I actually thought she was quoting a song.”
“Nah, it wasn’t.” I repeated the rest of it, “There aren’t many events in the world that can compare to when you fall in love.”
Belle laughed. “I remember now, you told me you wrote poetry.”
Legend looked a bit shocked as he shook his head at me. “You do?”
“No…” I laughed and told him, “I lied to her.”
“You acted like you knew all about it. So I asked you if you’d been in love,” Belle reminded me.
I shrugged and again met Legend’s gaze. “I told her I was, but there were many obstacles in the way.” Looking up at Belle, I went on, “But I really said it because I saw the look on your face when you were watching my brother. Then I came right out and asked you if you were in love with Liberty.”
“Yeah, she would do that.” Legend scoffed with a laugh. “The girl has no filter.”
“Hey, look who I grew up with,” I defended. “Four overbearing brothers and an MC president dad. Come on!”
The girls all laughed.
Belle nodded and explained, “That’s when I realized who she was. Glory. The very reason Liberty and his family were at Connor House. Then do you remember the actual advice you gave me?”
I shrugged. “Not really… I do know that I was still trying to get this man to see me.” I pointed at Legend.
“Oh, I saw you all right,” Legend claimed. “You just didn’t catch me watching.”
“Sneaky as all hell.” I smacked his arm.
“Damn, you two are adorable,” Scarlet said.
“Right? Wedding number four coming up,” Briget agreed.
“Four?” Belle asked.
“Sure… It could be five technically, if you think about it.” Scarlet nodded. “Redemption and Cinnamon. Then Justice and me. And finally, you two and the twins. Next up, is Glory and Legend. An epic event, I will bet.”
Belle nodded. “I hope it’s soon. But I will never forget what you said, Glory. If you do find it, hang onto it for all you are worth. ” Nodding, she looked over at Legend. “She said some people let walls stand in between them. Like the Wall of China or the Walls of Jericho.”
Legend looked from her to me and said, “And she was right. Only this wall wasn’t made in China or Jericho. It had been made in Italy.”
The girls stared at him in confusion.
