Chapter Sixteen Born To Shine

Glory

Legend stood still and stared at me.

I paused and cocked my head at him. “What?” I asked.

He gave me that familiar smile.

Staring back at him, I actually trembled. I always loved his smile and this one was dazzling. I wondered why I never got bored with seeing it. Well, I never saw it as much as I'd wanted to over the years.

Stepping closer, he grabbed me up and kissed me.

I eagerly pressed my body against his and kissed him back. This was all that I’d wanted for a long time. To just be able to kiss him. Hold his hand, talk with him, alone. Yes, the sex had been totally off the charts, but just being with him had been the dream and now I was living it.

Again, we hit the wild side in three freaking seconds. Wrapping his arms around me, he backed me up to the wall. We were again out of control as he reached down and unsnapped my jeans then tugged them down over my hips.

I wasn’t going to be left out, so I reached down and unsnapped his jeans then pulled his hard length out. Before I knew it, he had me straddling him as he entered me, pumping into me hard and fast while the desperate kiss went on. I couldn’t believe this was happening. One minute we were smiling at each other and the next, he was inside of me. We held each other as tightly as we could as we came together, breathlessly and wildly. I sucked in a deep breath as my climax hit me.

At the same time, Legend tucked his hips back then lunged up high and came inside me.

Breathless, we held onto each other. Our lips were still sealed.

Finally, Legend pulled his head back to look into my eyes. “Wow, I-I’m sorry about that—”

I raised my hand to place it over his mouth. “Oh, hell no. Do not apologize for that hotness!” I laughed.

He grasped my hand and turned it, palm up, to kiss it. “I’m not sure but I think I just lost my damned mind for several minutes.”

“Well, if that is what you want to call it, feel free to lose it whenever you want!” I leaned my forehead against his. “This is us, Legend. Us together after having been denied this for five years. And don’t argue with me about it but I was ready for you at twenty. At least now, we are finally on track. But damn, are you one hot man.” I chuckled.

“Well, you were on fire, woman.” He grinned at me. “Someone had to put you out.”

We laughed together.

Pulling back, he said, “We’d better get cleaned up.”

My eyes lit up, I know they did.

He shook his head. “No shower. I can’t get naked with you and not lose my ever lovin’ mind again. Nope. We don’t have time, Glory.”

I fake pouted. “Ok…”

He kept chuckling as he reached over to the top of his dresser to grab a tissue box. “I would be a gentleman and clean you up, but I don't trust myself.” He handed the tissues to me with a grin.

I scoffed. “Whatever. People can wait until we are ready to go.”

Shaking his head he replied, “Well, isn’t that special? You can’t be serious.” He smiled at me. “You are my queen, Glory. But that doesn’t mean you are everyone’s queen.”

I snickered. “Well, at least I’m yours now.”

He paused and tucked my hair back with his fingers as he stated in a low voice, “You are all mine, Glory.” His eyes burned at me.

Dramatically, I leaned my head back to look up at the ceiling. “Finally!” I exclaimed with a victorious yell.

Laughing, he shook his head as he wandered over to the bathroom for a minute and then came back out. “Here's a washcloth.” He walked over to give it to me then he went back into the bathroom.

I finished cleaning up and got myself together again. Wandering over to his bed, I stared at it. I wanted us to be here too. I’d dreamed of being in his bed for longer than I could remember. So, when we got back from New Orleans I planned on being right here. I looked down at his duffel bag and paused.

“I don’t like luggage,” he said from behind me.

I looked up at him. “That is too funny.”

“Why?” he asked as he looked confused.

“Because I have a duffel packed too. I hate suitcases. I even have a smaller duffel that’s just for my hygiene stuff. You know, toothbrush shampoo and bodywash.”

He chuckled. “Maybe it’s because we are bikers?”

I laughed. “Well, most wouldn’t agree that I’m a biker. I don’t understand why though. I can outride most of the men here. Outshoot them too, and I have a mean left hook.”

Legend raised his fists to tease me.

“Nah, I would never…” I gave him a smirk as I moved closer and said, “You were made for loving, not fighting.”

He tilted his head at me and replied, “But my dad is made for fighting, right?”

I paused to stare at him. “What do you mean by that?”

“I know you, Glory.” He grinned at me. “Maybe we weren't together but we grew up together .” He laughed. “You’ve got that glint in your eyes.”

“Glint?” I asked.

“The one you get when someone gets on your bad side. You get this look. I’ve seen it. Like whenever Duke comes into the room.”

I raised my hands up in defense. “Duke was gonna kick that dog!” Legend was right though. I intended to make sure Mr. Descalia didn’t try to push us around. “I told you…It’s bullies,” I grumbled.

“Yes, I know. I have to agree on one thing…My father was born to be a bully.” With a nod, he went over to pick his duffel up. He also had a hanger bag. “My best suit.” He shrugged.

Nodding, I asked, “Where’s your gun?”

He paused to set the bag down and looked over at me. “Oh, damn.”

“You forgot it, right?”

“Yeah, I did,” he replied and went over to his closet. He seemed to be looking for it. “There it is,” he said as he picked up his leather medical bag. Turning, he came back to the bed.

I laughed and shook my head.

“What?” he asked as he picked his duffel up.

“I thought you were looking for your weapon.”

“Priorities, babe.” He grinned at me.

My heart sped up again at that smile. Damn. “Well, your life means more to me than anyone’s. So, where is your gun?”

He shrugged. “Top drawer of my dresser.”

I walked back over to it and opened the drawer.

Suddenly, he came over to the dresser and looked down into the drawer.

Taking the gun out, I plucked it from its holster and checked the clip. “The chamber is empty.”

He grabbed up a manila envelope from the drawer and opened his vest to place it into the inner pocket. Then he went back over to the bed. “Yeah, it is. Guns shouldn’t lie around loaded. It isn’t safe.”

I rolled my eyes at him. “Then what good will it be if you need to use it? You gonna throw it at somebody?”

Shaking his head, he zipped the top of his duffel and gave me a nod. “Let’s go get your bag.”

I followed him out the door and then bent down to pull my weapon out of it. “I got it here.” Zipping it back up, I paused to reach back and tuck the gun into my waistband. Finally, I picked my duffel from up against the wall along with my hanger bag. Slinging it over my shoulder, I smiled at him. “I got your gun in there too and you will be wearing it.”

“If you want me to.” He shrugged.

I tisked. “Dang, Legend. We could be attacked.”

“I hope not, but if so, I expect our guards to take care of it. That is what they live for, mind you. Those men have been groomed for this kind of thing for their whole lives. I don’t care about fights. I care about the wounded from those fights.” He shrugged. “And I’m a good shot, so I will protect you in the car.” He winked at me.

I snickered. “A good shot.”

“Yeah,” he replied as he headed down the hall. “You know that in the Requiem, you cannot stay as a member if you don’t pass the shooting grade every year. It’s just like being a cop as far as that goes.”

“Yes, of course I know. My dad put that in the bylaws, but my point Legend…is that you don’t seem to care enough about your own personal safety.”

He snickered. “I got you now though. Don’t I?”

“Unbelievable!” I exclaimed as I laughed.

We arrived outside, went down the steps and stopped at the limo.

Rushing over to us, a man in a black suit and cap greeted us, “Mr. Descalia and Ms. Walker!”

We both stared at him.

I smiled. “Look, I’m Glory and this is Legend. No mister or missus. Ok?”

The man looked a bit flustered. “B-but…”

Legend nodded at him. “Yes, please just use our first names.”

I elbowed Legend. “You mean call you Giovanni, right?”

Smiling, Legend slowly shook his head and asked the driver, “And your name is?”

“Oscar,” the chauffeur replied.

Nodding, Legend walked around the back. “Ok, Oscar…if you will open the trunk for us, we will deposit our bags.”

Oscar gasped as he looked aghast. “Oh, no sir! I can get your bags,” he said as he grabbed my duffel and hanger bag from my hand. “This is my job.”

I smiled at his dramatic frustration and allowed him to take my bags.

Rushing over to Legend, he then took his duffle and suit bag.

Legend also allowed the man to take them. “Ok, ok.” He then looked over at me. “See? People have their jobs. It is what they do. Excel in. Mine is not shooting people.”

I laughed. “No shit.”

“No, that’s our job,” someone said.

Turning, we looked over.

Steel and Duke were standing a few feet away.

Legend chuckled. “See? Their job.”

“Yes, Miss Glory,” Steel spoke softly, though his deep voice made it sound loud. “We will do all that we can to protect you and Doc.”

Standing next to him, all Duke did was cross his massive arms over his wide chest and nod at us.

I shook my head. “I get that. But don’t forget we have an extra gun on this.”

“You mean two, right?” Duke spoke up.

“Yeah, the Italian guys.” Steel nodded.

I tisked as I shook my head. “Me. You both know I can outshoot all of you, right?”

The two bikers mutely stared at me.

I looked over at Legend. “Ok, whatever. They can live in denial of my skills. Many a biker has done that in the past. I know, I know. You are men and I’m not.” I let out a dry laugh. “Well, skill is skill, assholes. And I got skill. In fact, I seem to remember a night not so long ago when someone here got saved by my actions.” I stared at Steel. “After a bar fight, when he got jumped and I shot out the attacker’s knees.”

He gave me a nod. “True.” Placing his aviator sunglasses on, he smirked. “You are welcome to any fight. Miss Glory.”

Duke simply stared at us and turned to head to his bike.

Steel followed him to his ride too.

“Well, I don’t want you in line for a bullet,” Legend spoke up.

I looked over at him.

He went on, “Yes, I know… woman warrior and all, but only if you have to, ok?” He pulled me close. “We all know about your fighting skills, Glory. And I’m sorry, but I don’t care about you proving it. I want you safe. So please promise you will only get involved if you have to.”

I looked into his eyes to see the pleading in them. With a sigh, I nodded. “I will try not to.”

“Why do I doubt that?” he asked.

“Because like you said earlier, you know me. We grew up together.” I laughed and wrapped my arms around his neck to kiss him hard.

He tucked me close and kissed me back.

I don’t know how much time went by when we heard the limousine start up, so we finally parted.

“Damn,” Legend swore as he gently tapped my lips with his fingers.

Breathless, we laughed together as we looked up.

All my brothers and their wives stood on the steps along with Uncle Zed.

The girls raced down the steps and surrounded me, each hugging me, one at a time. The talking got loud as they all stood around me, telling me to hurry back. To have fun and to also visit the French Quarter in New Orleans. Briget told me to kick some Italian ass and we all laughed together. I actually got tears in my eyes from all the emotion I felt.

These were my new sisters really. Married to my annoying brothers. I figured it this way… My ornery brothers finally gave me something wonderful. These women. Cinnamon, who had married my oldest brother, Redemption ? wasn’t here but I’d gotten to know her back at the Connor House ? and she was just as awesome.

My brothers were shaking Legend’s hand and patting him on the back. He had been their brother for more than ten years and they loved him like one.

“I tried to tell her to keep her gun from going off,” Legend explained.

“Good luck with that,” Liberty told him. “The girl is ornery as all hell.”

I stepped over and gave him a gentle kick in the butt.

“Hey!” Liberty jumped to the side and turned to growl at me.

I raised my hands up. “I can’t help it, I’m too ornery, remember?”

The whole group laughed.

“She always has to have the last word,” Fate remarked.

“I do.” I nodded. “And why? Because I’m smarter, faster and better than all of my brothers.”

“Wow!” Scarlet said as she burst into laughter. “I love it!”

“I know, right?” Belle spoke up. “I wanna be you when I grow up, Glory.”

More laughing as we were bustled over by my family toward the car.

Oscar, the limo driver came over to open the far back door. Then he stood to the side with hands behind his back in a formal stance.

Uncle Zed came forward and gave me this serious look as he grasped my shoulders. “I guess it’s useless to ask you to behave?” he asked as he stared into my eyes. “Keep your head down and your backtalk to yourself?”

I halted to stare at him as he had said this to me sometime in the past. Yes, he’d said this the day I started kindergarten. My very first day ever at school. I had totally forgotten about it. And no wonder as it was a long damn time ago. I paused to remember what I had said back to him at the ripe old age of five. “My daddy named me Glory. He told me that was cause I was born to shine, so I’m not gonna take any guff, Uncle Zed.”

Everyone standing there stared at me, then they all burst into laughter.
