There’s a pounding on my door – and in my head – but I groan, yelling at whoever it is to go the fuck away. I don’t want to talk or see anyone. Instead, I’d rather rot in this tiny ass bed until the hangover passes, and the room stops spinning.
“Fal, it’s for you!”
I roll my eyes, draping a pillow over my head in an attempt to drown out the noise, and hoping whoever has the displeasure of wanting to see me fucks right off.
“Fallon, come on, she’s not leaving,” Rae says, slightly cracking the door, and urging me out of bed.
I don’t know how I ended up back in my old apartment, apparently, I showed up when I was wrecked one night last week, and I haven’t left since. This is the last place I want to be, but with everything else in my life either gone or decimated, this is my only current option.
I can hear pleasantries being exchanged, Mick sounding utterly annoyed at the fact someone is here for me, and I know it’s only a matter of time before she either has it out with me, or flat-out throws my ass on the curb.
We’ll see what comes first.
“Fallon, it’s the blonde this time, get out here,” Rae urges, and I throw the blankets off me, dragging myself out of bed.
“Happy?” I ask, stepping around Rae to see what the fuck she wants.
I stand with my hands on my hips, squinting at the sunlight beaming through the living room windows, and Pepper offers me a coffee.
“Got your favorite,” she says, smiling without a care in the world.
In true Pepper fashion, she looks perfect, her blonde hair shining while her tank top and jean shorts look effortlessly perfect on her.
I look down at myself, realizing I’m in another one of Ozzy’s shirts, and a pair of black panties.
I can feel the knots in my hair, tangled up in a messy bun on top of my head, and I’m sure the bags under my eyes have grown their own bags, at this point.
“What do you want, Pepper? I thought we were done with this,” I say, shaking my head in defeat, but accepting the caffeine.
“Can we talk, in private?” She nods toward the bedroom, and I lead us inside, shutting the door for privacy.
“Fallon, you’re not getting better.” Her voice shows that she’s worried, but I hold my hand up, not wanting to get into another lecture right now.
“Don’t, Pep. Please, just don’t.”
I’m sure Cami is lingering around the block, waiting for a signal to come in and try to rescue me. After what happened last time, I’m surprised they’re still trying this shit.
Pepper starts rambling, but I tune her out, listening to the birds chirping in the background, turning my brain off until three words pique my interest.
I sit up like I’ve risen from the dead, my eyes wide with hope, rage, and relief.
“I found them.”
