I blink rapidly, trying to adjust to the darkness. "Olivia?" My voice echoes in the empty space. "Did you turn out the lights? What was that? Olivia? Where are you?"

Silence.

Where ever I am smells of damp earth.

That is never a good sign.

I reach out my hand and it lands on smooth, cool stone.

And, hey, where’s my bracelet?

Okay, Mia, don't freak out. You've been in weirder situations. Remember that time at Burning Man?

At least I'm not covered in body paint and glitter this time ...

Yeah, that was challenging.

This is fine. Totally fine.

I fumble for my phone, but my pockets are empty.

Seriously?

"Hello?" I call out again, my voice a bit shakier than I'd like. "Anyone there? Oliv-"

A deep, thunderous roar cuts through the air, seeming to shake the very ground beneath my feet. It's coming from outside, wherever "outside" is. And it's definitely not human.

That didn’t sound like any wild animal I’ve ever heard of .

My heart races as I strain my ears. Is this how I die? Eaten by some massive unknown creature in a strange, dark place?

I don’t even have Mary Poppins to hug.

The roar fades, replaced by an eerie silence.

"Um, hi there, anyone?” I try once more. "I don't suppose you've seen a librarian and two cats around here, have you?"

Silence.

“Kitty kitty?”

The roar comes again. Closer this time.
