RAVEN
I came awake the next morning to an empty bed. When I sat up, I grabbed my side, feeling aches and pains there but not only there. My whole body hurt. I looked over to the open door of my bathroom, wondering where Miguel was. The smell of bacon was a dead giveaway. I smiled, remembering the argument we’d had at Trader Joe’s when he’d put it in the cart. Apparently, my boyfriend was making breakfast.
I glanced at the empty space on the bed next to me, only then noticing the tablet and a note lying on his pillow with a single red rose. I smiled wider, feeling my heart dancing inside my chest. I picked up the note and read.
I left something for you. The tablet’s unlocked. Tap on the page and take a look.
I put the note down and snatched up the tablet. It opened on a page where Miguel had typed out…a book review. I grinned widely and began reading.
Book title: The Best Man I’ve ever Known
Author: Miguel Huerta
Publisher: Self-published
Genre: MM romance…with a side of bad guys
Review/rating by Renegade: 10 stars
Synopsis:
The timeless story of two men who fall in love.
My review:
The central character of this book captured my heart from the opening lines which is why I gave it so many stars. It’s the story of a broken man, a man who’s lost everyone and everything he’s ever cared about. He’s at the end of his rope in so many ways, he can’t even count. At the beginning of every day, he takes himself apart, piece by piece, spending the entire day reducing himself to a shell of a man with no light at the end of the tunnel. The only thing that keeps him from leaving this world, is the devotion of a kitten named Stanley.
When he meets Raven Mathis, the man he’s destined to fall in love with, he comes to realize that each morning, Raven sees the broken man he is when he wakes and spends the rest of the day putting the puzzle of Miguel Huerta back together. It reads like someone playing Jenga in reverse. Raven slides back one piece, then another, and then still another, building Miguel up, restoring his faith, rebuilding his strength, until…by the end of the day, Miguel is a man who’s whole again.
Miguel can never express the love he has for Raven because it’s too large, too wide, too tall for Renegade to describe here in this review, what with the limited ways he possesses to do so. Miguel loves Raven’s beauty, is attracted to him physically, but beyond that, Miguel loves each and every bit of Raven’s heart…of Raven’s sweet, kind heart. He’s found his soulmate.
But this story is unfinished. There’s a cliffhanger.
Renegade only hopes the story of their love will carry on forever.
