NOVA

T he flight to Toronto is pure torture.

Four full hours of Simone clutching my hand while bouncing her knee. Nervous flyer doesn’t even cover it. If I have the function of my fingers after this, it’d be a miracle, and I’m known for my excellent finger dexterity. It would be a shame if she never gets to experience them.

I close my eyes and try to will my dick under control.

I’ve been sporting a semi since I caught a glance of her watching me handle that fucking pervert outside the woman’s bathroom. I’ve never seen red the way I did when I noticed him follow her. He’s lucky to still be breathing.

“Sir, would you like another?” The flight attendant asks me yet again to top off my drink.

But what her body language is suggesting is that I’ll meet her in the back to induct her into the mile-high club. I shake my head at the same time Simone breaks her silence.

“Lady, he’s not going to fuck you, no matter how hard you bat those fake lashes at him.” The poor woman gasps but smartly turns on her heel to walk away from us.

“My hero,” I turn to look at her, fully hoping the silent treatment is over now.

“How are you doing?” Her eyes are closed again as she mutters something under her breath that I just can’t catch.

“I’ll be fine as soon as we’re on the ground.” I nod and suck on my teeth.

“Not sure my fingers will survive that long.” She gasps and drops my hand.

“I’m so sorry!” I shake out my hand and grin at her.

“All good, Dove.” Her confusion is so fucking refreshing.

It’s been a long time since a woman looked at me as a human and not a sexual deviant. Don’t get me wrong, I love both, but Simone’s way of staring at me is disarming.

She leaves me guessing, and I’m slowly getting addicted to it.

“Why do you call me that?” I’m so lost in my own head I have no idea what she means.

“What?” I take a sip of my warm water and regret not getting a fresh one now.

“Dove.” Ah, my term of endearment has thrown her.

“Doves represent faithfulness. I saw it in your eyes when you walked into that bar. He broke you. You’re a tiny white bird with such magnificent power, if only you weren’t afraid of the sky.” I watch as it sinks in, and she looks around the plane.

I shake my head with a small laugh. She doesn’t have a clue what I really meant, but she will soon.

“I’m going to teach you to fly again, Simone.” Her frown draws my eyes to her lips, and for a brief second, I forget to be a professional.

For once, I was just a man attracted to a woman whose lips begged me for a kiss. I feel my body leaning in, and unless my mind plays a cruel joke on me, hers is meeting me halfway.

Then the captain decides to announce we’ll be landing soon, and the moment is broken. She clears her throat as she checks her seatbelt. I, on the other hand, want to throttle the pilots and make them circle Toronto so I can get the kiss they just robbed me of.

Since when do I kiss?

I think about this new development while we land and walk together to retrieve our luggage. It isn’t until we’re in the limo that I break the silence.

“We need to discuss the ground rules for this weekend.” Time to get my head back on work and off Simone’s fine ass.

An impossible task with the way she’s fucking sitting in front of me. It takes all I have not to drop to my knees in this car and eat her alive.

Woo buddy, you got it bad.

“I need to keep it as simple as possible. I can’t lie to save my life, and my mother is an expert in reading me. So we keep to the truth as much as we can.” She starts chewing on her thumbnail in thought.

“So we met at a bar shortly after you and Tyler broke up. We’ve kept in touch over the phone, and now we’ve decided to start seeing each other seriously.” I pull out the ring that’s been burning a hole in my pocket since this morning.

“I proposed as soon as I arrived.” I slip off my seat and onto my knees like I was just fantasizing about.

“Simone, will you fake marry me?” I wink at her shocked face.

“Jerk,” she laughs but lets me slide the very real engagement ring onto her finger.

“Wow, it’s so realistic.” I keep my mouth shut since a flawless three-carat diamond better fucking be realistic and more.

Clearing my throat, I retake my seat and continue listing the things I know so I can highlight any gaps.

“I know where you work and your family members’ names, but what about personal details.” She crosses her legs while admiring the ring in the dim light.

I pour us both flutes of champagne and slowly hand her one.

“I live alone. I have four children,” I cough on the sip of bubbly.

“I’m sorry, what?” She grins on that critical piece of information.

She doesn’t act like a woman with children, nor does she look like it’s even fucking possible. A woman’s body changes after childbirth and, in my opinion, for the better. She isn’t showing any signs of carrying or nursing a child.

“Yes, four beautiful fur babies.” What the actual fuck.

“Dove, I appreciate your love of animals, but you need to work on delivering important information. Please continue.” I shake my head now that my heart rate is semi-back to normal.

“My pussies are my world.” This time, I can’t stop the liquor from spurting out my mouth.

“Are you ok?” She reaches for some napkins, and I cough repeatedly, trying to breathe.

Simone is a goddamn choking hazard.

“NO!” I finally get out.

“Sorry.” Her words seem sincere, but the look in her eyes says differently.

This woman likes to surprise people and enjoys the fucking reactions she gets.

Dually noted, Dove.

“My pussies are a large part of my life, and my family will never believe we’re a couple if you don’t take this seriously,” she huffs.

“My apologies. I will, of course, take your pussies very, very seriously.” I drain what champagne I have left and place the glass down.

This woman is going to kill me, and for some reason, I know it’s going to be the sweetest way to go.

“Felix is a male orange Tabby. He’s sweet and lazy but dumb as a rock. Be careful around him since he likes to lay about and trip you.” I arch an eyebrow but nod.

“Minnie is my oldest female. She’s an eighteen-year-old Siamese that I’ve had since I was ten.” I quickly do the math and grin.

“That makes you twenty-eight.” She nods at me suspiciously.

“Yes,” my grin turns into a slow smile.

“That makes you four years older than me. You cougar.” I wink at her.

Her face is so damn expressive. No wonder her mother can read her so well. Her cheeks are a warm pink color, and the blush flows down her neck to her cleavage.

“That might be a problem. My father will assume you’re just after my money.” I shrug as I lean back and spread my arms along the back of the limo seats.

“Not an issue. I’ll sign a prenup. Nexy pussy, please.” Her choice of wording is growing on me.

She squirms slightly as if she’s thinking of her anatomy versus the cats I was actually referring to.

“Right. Freckles is a hairless female I adopted in college. She’s skittish and likes to hide. I barely ever see her, but she likes to sneak into bed with me at night.” Her warm smile at the memories in her head shows just how much she really loves these animals.

“The last one?” I nudge her knee with my foot softly to drag her out of her head.

“Angel, my female black pussy is the devil incarnate. She has and will try to kill you and herself as much as possible. I’m sure she’s used all nine of her lives and some of her siblings. Never cook with her around. She’s lit herself on fire one too many times.” I have no words for that, so I just nod and promise to avoid that cat as much as possible.

“Hobbies?” I kept asking questions until we arrived in front of her townhouse.

“How about you?” She says as I walk her to her door.

“I’m a man of many talents. One of which is misdirection. I’ll keep the conversation on you. No one will suspect a thing.” I move in slowly and kiss her cheek.

“Sleep tight, Simone.”
