Chapter

SIMONE
M addox helps me out of the limo at the venue, and I’m very mindful of how I move my legs. The wrap dress swishes between my bare legs, and I swear everyone is looking at me with accusing eyes.
We know you aren’t wearing underwear, Simone.
“Relax, Dove. Or must I give you another orgasm?” I turn towards him in shock.
“Get your head out of my vagina and into the game! We’re heading to war here,” I hiss as family, friends, and coworkers associated with my father walk past us to enter the outdoor venue my sister insisted on having for her precious baby.
“War? I wasn’t aware it was so serious. I would have worn a different suit. Marc Jacobs is more for bar brawls. Armani would have been better armor.” He grins at me, but I narrow my eyes.
“This is serious, Maddox.” He clears his throat and nods.
“So am I. Getting blood out of this suit will be impossible.” I sigh and throw my arms into the air.
“Come now, Dove. Let’s get you a drink.” I roll my eyes.
“It’s a baby shower. There won’t be any,” but then we walk in to find a full bar set up, and I frown.
“You were saying?” His arched eyebrow says all I need to know.
Stop doubting him.
“There you are! What are you wearing?” I close my eyes and count to three before turning to my sister.
“Don’t you recognize your own work?” I smile sweetly, but it’s lost on her cause she’s staring at Maddox.
“Well, yes, but it’s last season.” She licks her lips slowly.
Rage, the likes that I’ve never felt, fills my body at the way she’s eye fucking my man.
WOOO buddy….your what?
“Congratulations, you must be Sandy G. A pleasure to meet you.” Maddox smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“Thank you. Who are you here with?” Sutble sis.
Maddox takes my hand and brings it up to his lips for a sweet kiss.
“My stunning fiancee, of course.” It’s at that moment that Sandra spots the ring and gasps.
“Honey, are you ok?” Tim’s face appears over my sister’s shoulder, and I clamp my lips tightly.
He disgusts me on a level I can’t even describe.
“Hello, Simone.” I turn away from his voice and end up with my face in Maddox’s chest.
His hand gently strokes my exposed back.
“You must be Timothy.” The words sound polite, leaving his mouth, but I can hear the growl behind them vibrating up his chest.
“Call me Tim. You are?” I take a breath and turn to answer when my mother makes her appearance.
“You!” Everyone waiting at the bar stops and looks at her screech.
“Perfect,” I mutter as I square my shoulders to face off with my family.
“Mother, you’re making a scene,” Sandra says, but my mother could give a good goddamn.
“You are not welcome here!” She grabs my arm and yanks me away from Maddox.
“Mrs. Gauthier, I mean this with all the disrespect in my soul. If you do not let Simone go, I will forget you are a woman and the manners my parents taught me.” He takes a single step in our direction before I feel my mother’s hands drop away from me.
“You will regret this for the rest of your life, Simone.” She hisses at us before storming off.
“What on Earth was that about?” Tim asks of Sandra, who pats his chest while rubbing her expanded belly.
“She’s not marrying your brother.” Her whisper isn’t as low as she thought.
Nor were his when the words finally clicked.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN?” Tim turns on me but Maddox is there is a heartbeat.
“Unless you want to end up like your brother, you better back the fuck up.” Tim deflates in front of my eyes.
It’s clear on his face that he doesn’t know what to do without Tyler here to back him up.
Bullies never do well alone.
“Where is my brother?” Kudos to Tim for actually taking a small step into Maddox, who has about five inches and probably fifty pounds on him.
“Finding a new shirt, I’d expect.” Tim frowns at that tidbit.
“Honey, come on. Let’s go greet our other guests.” Sandra tries to pull him away.
Tyler decides to arrive in that moment and he’s not alone.
Two police officers enter behind him, and as soon as he sees us by the bar, his hand raises to point. Crap, this can’t be good. The officers trail after Tyler, making a beeline to us.
“Hold these, Dove. You call a man named Abel if they arrest me. Understood?” His phone and wallet get shoved into my hands the next second.
“Ms. Gauthier?” The officers ask, and I nod.
“Your fiancee informs us that this man was holding you against your will?” What the fuck?
I turn angry eyes on Tyler’s smug face.
“No, sir. Maddox is my fiancee and wouldn’t ever hurt me.” The officer closes his little notebook and stares at Tyler.
“Mr. Reid, filing a false police report is a felony.” The smug look drops off his face.
“Since you’re here, maybe you can help me with the matter of Tyler breaking into my home today.” The second officer perks up and smiles at me.
“I did no such thing!” Tyler says, looking around the room for help.
“Mrs. Gauthier, my mother-in-law, gave me the key.” I shake my head as I lean into Maddox’s chest.
“She is not and never will be your mother-in-law. Unless polygamy becomes legal in Canada, and you marry Sandra too.” Several gasps echo around us.
“How dare you!” My sister cries out immediately, starting to cry.
As if summoned from the depths of hell, my mother appears at her side.
“What have you done, Simone.” Oh, that’s it.
I’m done playing nice.
“First, you show up at my house uninvited. Then you give this pompous ass your keys so he can break in when you know I don’t want anything to do with him! Then you come yet again to Sandra’s defense when the shit hits the fan? No more. I’m done with all of you.” I turn to Maddox who takes my hand and starts walking towards the doorway.
“If you leave here with him, do not come back! If you do not marry Tyler, we are done.” I roll my eyes at her.
“You do not get to dictate who I marry! Especially when the man in question had been secretly switching places with his brother and fucking my sister behind my back!” Gasps fill the air.
“Simone!” Tim says, holding my sister while she cries harder.
“Ma’am, are you saying this man not only gained entrance to your home without permission, but he also tricked you into sleeping with his twin brother without your knowledge?” The officers I completely forgot about ask, and I nod.
Three things happen very quickly.
Tyler and my mother are put in handcuffs and read their rights while my sister passes out cold. I wave as the officers move the ones in handcuffs past us and call an ambulance for my sister.
“THIS IS ABSURD!” My mother yells as she’s put in the back of a police car.
A tap on my shoulder has me turning to see my father. He offers his hand to Maddox, who shakes it immediately. He turns serious eyes at me and speaks five words that make my world fall out from under my feet.
“Don’t return unless you’re married.” I gasped but then realized he wasn’t even talking to me since his eyes were on Maddox.
“Understood, Sir.”
