Epilogue

I love the sound of laughter coming from the other room as I finish adding the final touches to the cake. I’ve always wanted a place to host our family and friends.

This house has turned more into a home every day I’ve been here. It’s now filled with pictures of our family and memories of our favorite days.

“It looks perfect, babe,” Grayson says, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

I look down at the pink and white castle and add one little pink candle to the top.

“She’ll love it,” he says, grabbing it as I light the candle.

A chorus of happy birthday sounds as we walk into the room, and I spy our sweet little Rosemary bouncing up and down in her high chair, waiting.

Her cheeks are rosy, and her soft red curls are bouncing. She has my big eyes and looks exactly like a cartoon baby princess. Gertie sings loudly in the corner next to Doris and Harold.

They’ve been dating for a few months , and it’s pretty cute. Tatum and Dylan sway dramatically together while they sing front and center to Rosemary. They are just as enamored with her as we are. Mikey and the boys from work bellow the song from the side of the room.

They are like her big brothers/uncles, and I worry about the day she wants to try and date.

My hand catches the sun as we pass the big window, and my ring glints and sparkles at me.

I look down at it and smile. Grayson proposed at the park, and it was the perfect place. So many of our most important moments have happened at the park. It’s where we met, it was our first date, and where we went into labor. And now we love taking our little girl there and showing her all those spots.

Grayson sets down the cake as the song ends and says, “Okay, Rosie, make a wish!”

I watch as her sweet little lips try to blow out the candle, and I smile. I wonder what she’d wish for. I desperately hope it comes true. But as I look around this room and at my life, I realize that sometimes reality is even better than your wishes.
