SADIE

I spot Luca just before he steps into the bakery.

He smiles and joins me at my table.

“You can skip the small talk,” I tell him.

He smirks, and I swear his cheeks turn a light shade of pink.

“I’m just trying to help him, Sadie.”

He hands me the note.

“Three years ago, he wouldn’t have asked me for help, but he did this time. We both know he changed for the better the moment you showed up at his door.”

I clear my throat and open the note.

Age Gap Mai Tai.

For some reason, this one makes me smile.

“He’s next door, if no one has mentioned that yet.”

“They have.”

Luca stands.

“So, are you going to come?”

I shake my head. “See you later, Luca.”

His shoulders drop, and he leaves.

“What’s going on?” Brooke asks .

“He’s matching romance tropes with drinks and naming them.”

“Who?”

“Hudson.”

She takes the notes from the corner of the table and looks through them.

“But why?”

“Because I told him I thought the idea would be fun for how I shelved the books at Sips and Stories.”

“Oh, well, that’s kind of cute,” Brooke says with a swoon-worthy smile, but she cuts it short when she sees me glaring at her. “What?”

“Why is he reminding me of this all while knowing the place he just bought would have been the perfect spot?”

She shrugs. “You should go ask him.”

I nod slowly.

Yeah, I know I should.

I’m just not ready for which version of Hudson I’m going to get.
