CHAPTER 10

Bentley

A ll day I’ve been counting down the seconds, looking at my clock just about every two minutes, waiting for this date. Roxanna proved my instincts to be right last night. She’s the one. I had the best night of my life and all we did was cuddle up in bed and talk—and make out. And kiss until our lips were swollen.

Damn, I can’t stop thinking of her pretty pussy and the way she rubbed it against my mouth, just as eager as I was hungry. I can’t wait to get back between her legs and get me another taste. My cock’s chomping at the bit too. Not sure if sex on the second date is moving too fast, but hell if I can wait.

Been so damn long since I let my dick out to play, and now, he doesn’t want to go back in his cage. He’s been hard as nails all day. I had to take care of myself in the bathroom a few times just so I wouldn’t be sporting a stiffy around the station all day. The sheriff would think I have a problem. So any time I left my desk, I had to carry a file with me to hide the evidence. I’m not sure I’m gonna make it through dinner without taking the edge off. I may be tossing my girl in my back seat and having a little fun with her first.

The clubhouse is buzzing tonight. I give the guys I recognize fist bumps as I make my way to Roxy’s room. I’m still not a fan of her living amongst a brood of single men who all have the hots for my girl, but I doubt she’ll agree to move in with me just yet. Shiv and Axle were right; it’s gonna take kid gloves and time to get her to trust me. But last night, I could already see glimpses of her letting down her guard and letting me in. When she kissed me good night, I felt it in my bones. It was real. There wasn’t just lust behind the kiss, there was emotion. And damn was it hard to leave her. I almost begged her to let me stay the night, but I didn’t want to press my luck. Tonight, though, I’m taking her back to my place and I’m keeping her locked in my arms all night long.

I get to the back hallway, staring right at Roxy’s door, and notice there’s no light coming from the bottom of it, but I raise my hand and knock anyway, just to make sure she’s not in there before I go searching around the clubhouse for her. When no one answers, I make my way back to the main room, going straight to the bar where she was busy pouring drinks yesterday, but my girl isn’t there. Another girl is playing bartender tonight.

“Do you happen to know where Rox is?” I ask, stepping up in front of her.

Her eyes pop up, instantly turning seductive when they land on me. She can tuck that little tongue of hers back into her mouth because I’m not interested. There’s only one woman who’s captured my undivided attention.

“Never seen you in here before.” She leans forward, giving me an eyeful of her tits. “You from the north chapter?”

“I’m Hailey’s brother.”

“Oh!” Her eyes get even more excited. “So, why hasn’t she brought you around before? You married?”

I’m half tempted to nod. My heart is already off-limits, but this girl obviously knows Rox and I don’t want that girl gettin’ spooked. “Not married. Do you know where Roxy is?” I’m done answering her questions. I just want to find the one I can’t get my mind off of and get on with our night.

“She left about an hour ago. But if you’re looking for a Sweetbutt to keep you company, I’m more than willing to show you a good time.”

She left? Maybe she had to run out and grab something for our date. Or maybe she needed to run an errand for the club. “Do you know where she went?”

“She said she was going for a drive.” She bristles, obviously not liking the fact that I didn’t take the bait. “And that she’d be out for the night.”

The heck? I know she didn’t forget about our plans. But this explains why she never responded to my text. I thought she didn’t recognize the number so she didn’t open it, but something’s telling me that she’s on the run again, doing what she can to get out of our date. Well, she’s wrong if she thinks I won’t come after her.

“Any chance you know where she’d be driving to?”

She shakes her head. “You shouldn’t be wasting your time on that one. She’s fucking some rich guy on the side. I see her sneak out to meet him in the middle of the night. The guy shows up in a limo. Must have some serious cash.” She hits me with a look as if that’s going to intimidate me. I already know Rox isn’t after millions. “Makes sense why she’s turned down every Savage Knight who’s tried to claim her. She’s holding out hope that Mr. Money Bags is going to sweep her off her feet.”

I have half the mind to tell her she’s mistaken but I’m not airing my girl’s business to anyone. If Rox wanted this girl to know she was meeting up with her stepbrother, she would’ve shared the fact.

“Thanks for the heads-up. Do you know where she’d be driving to?”

“She likes going to the diner for dinner every once in a while. But I’m really not sure. You know, if you ever change your mind, I’d be happy to show you a really good time.”

I shake my head. “Sorry, doll. I’ve already claimed the one I want. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to run.”

She looks disappointed but I’m sure she’ll move right on to the next guy tonight. From as crowded as this place is, she’s got a ton of men to choose from. Grit mentioned they were calling in some members from the north chapter to help out with Chrissy’s case, and it looks like they’re starting to arrive. They’re a lot of unfamiliar faces milling about, which means there’s more who’ll try to make a play for my girl. She doesn’t have a leather cut with Old Lady written across the back, nor does she have a ring on her finger, which makes her fair game as far as they’re concerned, but she’s mine and no one’s laying a hand on her.

I start my car and head right toward town, looking for a white Camaro as I’m driving through the streets. I memorized her plate number while I was at work today. I also scoured the web looking for anything I could find on her, going through old pictures from when she was a kid, seeing her smile dim and her eyes grow vacant as she got older. In the last family picture I could find of her, it was like she was a shell of herself. A shell of a young woman with a fake smile planted on her face.

Last night, when she was in my arms, her smile was real. And her eyes were lit up like a Christmas tree. Full of happiness and warmth. So then why the fuck did she take off on me? Because she doesn’t trust me. After what her own father did to her—kicking her out, washing his hands of his only daughter—I can’t blame her. A father’s love is supposed to be unconditional. He’s the one man in her life she should be able to count on no matter what, but she didn’t fit his perfect mold. And now, I’m positive she’s afraid that if she comes in short on anyone’s expectations, that they’ll do the same. Leave her high and dry with a broken heart.

What she doesn’t realize is that she’s already met all my expectations. Just her smile alone makes me happy. Shootin’ the shit about food and TV shows took my mind off work, which is always ugly and bogging down my thoughts. I don’t have some list she’s got to live up to. I just want her as she is. Wild hair, sassy mouth, a pussy that tastes like candy.

Fuck. I press my foot down on the gas, speeding right through town to get to the diner. Right as I pull up, I see a white Camaro driving by me, heading in the opposite direction. Catching a glimpse of her colored hair as she passes, I flip around, doing an illegal u-ey, and take off after her. She turns on her signal and then pulls into the hotel’s parking lot.

The fuck? She better not be meeting someone here or I’ll lose my fucking shit. I slam my car into park and jump out, getting to her as she’s pulling a bag out of the back seat.

“You want to explain why the hell you’re running?”

Her eyes get big as she turns in my direction, looking like a deer caught in headlights.

“How’d you find me?”

“You didn’t answer my question,” I state, ignoring hers. “Why the hell are you running from me?”

She steels her jaw, bristling those shoulders right up. “I’m not running. I’m just not interested.”

Bullshit. She was more than interested when I was locked to her lips while her legs were locked around my waist. She seemed just fine as we were flipping through that cookbook picking out a dessert recipe for tonight, along with other things we’d like to make together at some point. She can’t sit here and tell me she didn’t feel the connection, because my chest was pounding hard, and hers was right there with me. Her pulse rate was just as high, and her eyes were mirroring exactly what I was feeling. So I’m not buying it.

“Tell me something. Are you scared of falling in love? Or are you scared that I’m going to dick you over like your ex did? Because I can promise you one thing, I’d never do anything to risk losing you. He was a fool. And I have a hell of a lot more sense to know that I’m staring at a rare gem. No way in hell I’m walking away from a diamond to settle for quartz.”

Her eyes light up and I can see it, the warmth seeping in, but then…she shakes her head and once again she’s freezing me out. “There you go assuming shit again. I’m not afraid of anything.” Liar. “It’s what I do, Officer. Fuck men for the night, make them feel wanted and special. I’m a Sweetbutt, remember? Doesn’t mean I have feelings for you. You barged into my room and wouldn’t leave, so I played along. Decided to enjoy the evening since you weren’t taking no for an answer. Hey…” She plasters on a fake-ass smirk. “I got a couple orgasms out of it, so it wasn’t all a waste of time.”

That’s it. I grab my cuffs out of my back pocket and reach for her, taking her arm and locking her wrist in place then reaching for the other.

“What are you doing?” She tries to struggle out of my hold, but I’ve been at this for a long time and know exactly how to get her locked down. “You can’t arrest me just because I’m not going to date you. That’s illegal.”

“Never said anything about an arrest, now did I?” I snap the other cuff on. I grab her bag and pull her toward my car as she makes her protest every step of the way. I’m done playing by the rules. This girl is as hardheaded as they come, and she needs some tough love. If she thinks she can escape these feelings that I know damn well are forming, she’s wrong. I’m taking her heart into custody and making sure she understands that she’s just been issued a life sentence from one very hardheaded cop.

Damn. If my sister could hear my thoughts, she’d up and think I’ve gone fucking nuts. I’ve known Rox for forty-eight hours, already went to the Prez and staked my claim, and now, I’m kidnapping the girl. Maybe I have gone insane, but I owe it all to this fiery woman who’s glaring at me hard as I shove her into my car.

“If you think that you’re doing yourself a favor, you’re wrong, Officer. Being taken against my will doesn’t exactly do it for me.”

I lean down, getting right in her face, hearing her soft intake of air, seeing her eyes flare with heat and watching the little pulse on her neck tick fast, and I call bullshit. “Pretty certain that if I buried my tongue between those legs, you’d be nice and soaked for me.” And there goes the soft little whimper. She can fight this all she wants, but she wants it just as bad.

“Exactly what I thought.” I smirk. “Now, sit back so I can get your seat belt on.”

She looks like she’s about to put up a fight, and I brace myself for the tongue-lashing I’m about to receive, but then she shifts in her seat, doing exactly as she was told. For as much as she wants to buck me on this, she has a hard time saying no. If she’d told me to go to hell, warned that she’d never speak to me if I didn’t remove the cuffs this second, I’d have set her free and tried to win her favor in a different way, but she didn’t. And that’s because she knows. She can run all she wants but she can’t hide from a good thing.

I lock her seat belt into place and shut her door, taking out my cell phone as I’m heading to my driver’s side.

“Bentley,” Grit answers on the first ring. “How’s everything going over there on lover’s lane?”

I wish it was going a hell of lot smoother than it is, but it sure as hell is going. “Good, man. Look. Just wanted to let you know that if anyone’s looking for Rox, she’s with me. Want her staying at my house while all the north members are in town, not that I don’t trust them, but just to be on the safe side.”

“I hear ya, man. I don’t want my girl anywhere near the club either. Don’t trust a soul when it comes to her sexy little ass.” Thank fuck for that because I don’t want my sister around those guys either. “I’ll make sure Axle and the guys know she’s safe and sound. I’ll admit, I didn’t think you’d actually do it, man. That you’d actually get through that hard shell of hers, but then again, I shouldn’t be surprised. You’re a damn good man and that girl deserves someone like you.” I agree, but he’d definitely be singing a different tune if he knew I was taking her against her will.

“Yeah…” I look at the girl who’s giving me one hell of a stink eye, glaring at me through the windshield. “Well, I’m the lucky one. Roxanna is nothing short of amazing.”

“Damn, you better not say that shit in front of your sister. She’ll be planning your wedding and sending out save-the-dates by the end of the week.” I chuckle at that. I had agreed to go on a blind date a while back and Hailey was already talking about how amazing it would be for us to have kids at the same time so our babies would grow up together. I hadn’t even met Chrissy yet, and my sister already had me married with kids. Although, if I have my way with the raging mad beauty in my front seat, we’d be walking down the aisle before the year’s end.

“That she will, which means I need you to keep this to yourself. If Hailey finds out I’m playing house already with Rox, she’ll be banging down my door.” And I sure as fuck don’t want to be interrupted.

“Yeah, your secret’s safe with me.” He chuckles. “I know exactly what it’s like wanting to be alone with your woman.”

“And you can stop there,” I state, not wanting to hear any more about how he wanted to get it on with my sister. “Anyway, I have to run, man, but I’ll see you Sunday for family dinner.”

“All right, brother. See you then.”

I end the call and then dial up my boss as I’m climbing into the car. If I make my girl wait on me any longer, she’s liable to punch me in the dick.

“Thought you were off the clock, Officer.” His deep voice comes on the line as I shut my door.

“I am. Just wanted to let you know that I’ll be out for the next few days. Got some personal shit I need to take care of.” I have enough vacation time stored up that I could take off half a year if I wanted to, so I don’t see him putting up a fight over a few personal days. Besides, there’s only one case that needs my immediate attention right now, and I can manage it from home.

“Everything okay? You haven’t taken a day off since I’ve known you.”

“Yep. All good. My girl just needs my help, so I need to be here for her.”

“Your help?” Roxy balks from my side. “I don’t need anything from you. All I need is for you to let me out of these cuffs.”

I narrow my eyes on her, knowing damn well that the sheriff just heard her loud and clear. I’m talking to my boss , I mouth. If she doesn’t quit talking, she’s liable to get me arrested.

“Am I to assume that’s her? Or do you have a prisoner with you right now?”

I shake my head at my girl. She’s going to get one hell of a spanking when we get home.

“Yeah, she’s with me.”

He lets out a chuckle and I breathe a sigh of relief knowing he’s not going to be sending out the troops in order to haul my ass down to the station. “Sounds like she’s a fighter like my Rowan. Takes a hell of a lot of patience and sex to rein them in, but it’s damn worth it.”

I smirk. Just looking at my girl’s fiery red cheeks and her blazing mad eyes has my dick up in arms. And I bet money her pussy is just as wanton. “I know it will be. Look, if all hell breaks loose and you need me, I’ll be there. But if the streets are quiet, I’m taking the week.”

“You won’t be hearing from me, son. You work harder than anyone else on the force. Besides, I owe you for saving my ass. Now, you go and have fun. And I’ll see you when I see you.”

“Thanks, Sheriff. Appreciate it. I’ll see you next week.”

“If you think you’re keeping me locked up for a week, I swear to God I will hurt your dick.” Her little outburst comes as soon as I hit end on the call. At least Ryker wasn’t privy to that.

“Doubt you’ll be following through with that threat once you get a look at it.” I cock my brow up and start the car, smirking when I see her cheeks turn pinker. I pull out onto the road, driving straight to my house. I’ll make sure the hotel gets a heads up about her car so they don’t go towing it.

“If you think I’m going to fuck you, you’re wrong.”

I ignore her comment. It’s a weak threat, one I have no worries she’ll follow through with. She was screaming the same tune last night and as soon as I kissed her pussy, I had her right where I wanted her.

“So, what’s your plan? Hold me hostage and try to brainwash me into being your girlfriend? Because that’s a stupid plan. I’m immune to Stockholm syndrome.”

There will be no brainwashing. I don’t need Stockholm to do my bidding. There are three ways I intend to win her over. Show her that she’s special. Give her a glimpse at what life would be like if she were my girl. And… fuck her brains out. Although, they may not come in that order. I may be fucking her brains out first because when she’s all soft and sated in my arms, she’s a lot more receptive to my charms.
