I jog to Haruko while trying to push back my hair into something that doesn’t look like an unkempt mess. Something that doesn’t look like I just had someone’s hands pulling on it as I sucked their dick. I can still taste Nick on my tongue, but I try to ignore the twitch in my dick as I come to a stop in front of her.
“Hey, are you okay?” I ask.
Haruko turns around, her eyes wide with shock. She looks around, as if she’s looking for the magical portal I jumped out of. Or maybe she’s looking to see if there’s anyone else here.
“Um, yeah. I’m fine,” she says, her voice one of defeat.
“Hey,” I say softly, touching her arm.
Fuck, her skin is so soft. “You can talk to me. Is this about the date?”
She sighs before pulling her bag off her shoulder, letting it fall to the ground.
“Yeah, it’s about the date. It… didn’t go well.”
“Want to talk about it?”
She shakes her head, but then she changes her mind and nods.
I lead her to her porch and we sit on the stairs. I can see Nick standing on our porch watching us.
“What happened?” I ask.
“Well, for one, the chemistry sucked. I felt no spark. Nothing. And then he ordered for me. He didn’t ask if he could order for me. He just assumed he knew better and did it. Twice. And then he made fun of what books I like to read and that was it. I had to leave. I made it half an hour.”
“What books do you like to read?”
She turns her head to look at me. “Promise me you won’t laugh like he did.”
My brows raise. “He laughed at you?”
She nods, her lips wobbling a touch.
I run my hand up and down her back, trying to soothe her before she takes in a big breath and lets it out.
“Romance. I like romance books.” Her lips turn into a half smile.
“That’s a good genre. Personally, I’m a romcom guy.”
She smiles fully and I feel like my heart grew three sizes.
“You read romance?”
I nod. “Yeah, it’s fun and sexy and romantic. What’s not to love?”
“Nothing!” she says, laughing a little. “I like romcoms too. Friends to lovers is my favourite trope.”
“I like enemies to lovers. Love me some good banter.”
She laughs again and I wish more than anything I could take her into my arms and hug her, then go into her house and read her one of her favourite books while in bed with no clothes on and sipping hot chocolate.
Fuck, that would be so good.
Sorry Chad, you missed out.
Though I guess I’m in the same boat since it won’t happen for me either.
“Hey, why are you dressed so fancy?” she asks, waving her finger at my body.
“Oh, we’re going out.” I nod to where Nick is still standing on the porch.
“Oh, my God. I’m so sorry to interrupt you.” She stands and walks to her door.
“You didn’t. I came over here. I asked you what was wrong and offered to lend you an ear. It’s fine. In fact, do you want to come with us?”
The offer comes out of my mouth before I think it through. Which I really should have.
“Where are you going?” She asks.
And that’s why you think before you speak.
“Um, well… it’s a club. An adult club here in the city where people hang out and do adult things.” I draw my words out and she seems to catch my drift because her eyes widen and her cheeks blush.
I wonder how low that blush goes.
“An adult club? That sounds… fun. Don’t you need a membership to get into one of those?”
“We have one and we can bring guests. You’ll have to sign an NDA, but other than that, it’s no issue.”
“I’m not sure I can afford that—”
“It won’t cost you anything.” I step closer and take her hand in mine, saying softly, “Please come with us. It’s a good time and who knows? You might find someone who can make you forget about your shitty date. It’s a magical place. No judgement at all. You don’t have to come, but I’d like you to. It’s up to you. Your call.”
She pulls her bottom lip between her teeth as she considers my offer.
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted something more in my whole life. It’s a rush for sure. Even in that club we’re still her bosses, but I have a feeling in my gut that this is a good idea. Not sure where it’s coming from. Probably somewhere with no morals or survival instincts, because Elijah is going to kick my ass if she comes at my request.
She nods her head and I feel a smile pull at my lips.
“Yeah, sure. Do I need to bring anything?”
“Just some ID. You can bring other stuff too, like your phone, but you can’t use it inside.”
“Okay.” She chuckles as if she can’t believe she said yes.
I can’t either.
“I’ll just put my stuff away and get my ID. One sec.” She opens the door to her house and slips inside as I head to our house next door, where Elijah is now standing.
“What did you do?” Elijah asks in his scary voice. Well, it scares others. I’m pretty used to it by now. It’s the voice he uses when he’s pissed.
“I invited her to come with us.” I hold up a hand as Elijah’s mouth opens to speak. “And before you tell me how it’s a terrible idea, I just want to say I know that and I’m not taking it back. So, you two are going to ride in the back.” I nod from Nick to Elijah. “I’m driving and Haruko gets shotgun.”
Elijah and I are in a standoff. He looks like he’s about to argue when he looks over my shoulder. We all look at Haruko coming to us. Her red dress makes her look ravishing.
“If you don’t want her to come, it’s up to you to tell her,” I tell Elijah quickly as Haruko joins us.
“Hello, Nicholas. Elijah.” She nods to each man before grinning at me. “I’m so excited. And a little nervous.”
I chuckle. “It’s okay. Everybody is a little nervous their first time.” I look at the guys. “Well, I’m ready to go. How about you?”
My eyes lock on Elijah, giving him one last chance to end this. But I know him. He denies himself, thinking it will settle the craving, but he can’t. Not with her. And yes, as stupid as this is, I know he can’t say no because he wants this as much as I do. He’s as hooked on our assistant as Nick and I are.
A few beats pass before Elijah gives in.
“I’m ready,” he says in his deep bass.
I lead Haruko to the car and open the passenger side door. With my hand out, I let her hold me as she lifts herself into the car. Nick and Elijah get in the back. But before Nick gets in, he claps me on the shoulder and whispers in my ear, “I hope you know what you’re doing.”
I nod as I shut Haruko’s door and head to the driver's seat.
I’ll admit that I don’t fully know what I’m doing. I haven’t thought this plan through to the end, but the thing is, there is no plan. All I want is for Haruko to see this. This part of me she hasn’t seen yet. One I wished I could’ve shown her years ago, but for obvious—and still relevant—reasons, I couldn’t.
I pull out of the driveway, trying to keep my eyes on the road instead of on Haruko. I wish I could hear what she’s thinking. What is she expecting? Does she already know what she likes, or will she discover it tonight? How close to what I like does she like? I don’t even know if she already goes to a club like this, but I feel like she would’ve said something if she had.
God, now I’m rambling in my head.
I take a deep breath and calm myself.
It’s going to be fine.
It’s going to be fine.
We’re fine.
