Epilogue

Epilogue

T he snowstorm was worse than ever before and this time Calista hoped it would never end.

Her father and mother had come to spend the Yuletide with them at Ezra’s main seat and it had been – strained, to say the least. Though ever since she’d married a duke’s son, her father had certainly eased off the criticism, not least because Ezra had threatened bodily harm if he disrespected Calista again.

She watched her husband of a year stoke the fire before hurrying back to her side and slipping under the blankets. When he’d told her that he intended to build hunting lodges in every one of his estates, she’d thought he was joking but sure enough, up they went. And as soon as they got word of a blizzard, he’d packed enough supplies for a month at least and carried her off.

It was unpardonably rude, of course, but Ezra simply didn’t care. And the longer she was married to him, the more she realized that she shouldn’t care either. So she didn’t.

Next week, Marianne and David would arrive with their new babe and since Calista planned to spend all her time doting on the new little lord, she was going to enjoy every second of this time alone with her husband.

“What do you say to losing another hand of cards to me?” she offered as he lay back and pulled her against him.

“What, so you can cheat?” he asked, laughing as she swatted at him.

“If I remember correctly, we both benefited from that prize I won,” she said, gasping as his hands began to wander.

“That we did, wife. So let’s skip the cards and get right down to it. What do you want?”

“A kiss.”

“Gladly,” he growled before setting about doing just that.

The End.
