STELLA

A sharp, throbbing pain pierces through my skull as I slowly open my eyes. The room swims in front of me, and a groan escapes my lips as I struggle to sit up on Anastasia’s couch. My head feels like it’s being squeezed in a vice, the result of one too many drinks last night. With trembling hands, I rub my temples, trying to alleviate some of the discomfort.

What was I thinking?

“Morning, sunshine,” Anastasia says as she enters the room, her voice full of concern. She holds a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and a bottle of aspirin in the other. “Here, drink this. It’ll help with your hangover.”

“Thanks,” I mumble, taking the cup from her. What I wouldn’t give for a little relief right now. But part of me knows I deserve this pain after letting myself get so out of control last night.

Anastasia pops the cap off the aspirin and shakes out two pills into her palm. “Take these, too,” she instructs, handing them over.

“God, you’re a lifesaver, Ana,” I say, swallowing the pills down with a gulp of coffee. The bitterness of the drink is strangely comforting, and I can already feel my headache beginning to subside. “You don’t look hungover at all.”

She waves her hand at me, dismissively. “Come on now…I’ve been doing this since middle school. I can hold my alcohol.”

I groan. “I’m jealous.”

“Are you okay?” Anastasia asks, her eyes filled with worry. “You really did a number on yourself, last night. That’s so unlike you.”

“You’re the one who told me to!”

She laughs. “I didn’t think you actually would.”

“Definitely not my finest moment,” I admit, cradling the coffee cup between my hands. “I appreciate you taking care of me, though.”

A sigh escapes me as I sink back into the cushions, taking another cautious sip. The world seems to be slowly coming back into focus, and I can feel coherence returning to my thoughts.

“What are best friends for?”

My gaze drifts to my phone lying on the floor. It must have slipped from underneath the pillow at some point during the night. I reach out and pick it up, running my fingers over the cool glass screen. A notification flashes, and I see Paul’s name popup. My heart skips a beat, and I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nervousness as I tap the message open.

It’s a new day to think about all the things I can do to that sexy body of yours. Don’t forget to tell me your sober answer.

My fingers tremble as I scroll through the messages exchanged with Paul the previous night. With each passing moment, my eyes widen in shock. The steamy and flirtatious nature of our conversation becomes apparent, and I can’t help but feel a mixture of excitement and guilt.

So, it hadn’t just been a dream.

I’m happy it wasn’t.

“Stella? What’s got your attention?” Anastasia asks, her curiosity piqued. “Your entire face is red.”

“Nothing,” I reply quickly, trying to sound casual. “Just… some texts from last night.”

Anastasia leans in, her gaze intent on catching a glimpse of the messages displayed on my phone screen. Panicked, I hastily hide the device behind my back, feeling embarrassed and unsure of how to explain the situation.

She’d given me permission to reach out to her brother, but I wasn’t sure how Anastasia would feel if she’d known we’d been sexting… not to mention, I’m sure she didn’t know about the dominant side her brother had.

A side that was calling me more than I cared to admit.

“Hey, why are you hiding your phone?” Anastasia teases, one eyebrow raised. “We don’t have secrets from each other. Is there something juicy going on?”

“Ana, really, it’s nothing,” I insist, attempting to brush off her inquiries. If I thought that was going to be enough to appease her though then clearly I didn’t know my best friend.

“Come on, Stella, you know you can tell me anything.” Anastasia’s voice softens, and she reaches out to place a hand on my shoulder.

I take a deep breath, my mind racing with thoughts on how to handle this delicate predicament. I could lie, but that’s not what we do. We don’t lie to each other.

And just because I didn’t tell her didn’t mean her brother wouldn’t, and then it would hurt her feelings because I didn’t speak up.

Despite my hesitation, I know that Anastasia is someone I can trust. But discussing the intimate details of a flirty exchange with her brother? That’s a whole new level of awkwardness I’m not sure I’m prepared to confront.

My heart races, and my grip tightening around my phone. “Alright,” I exhale, feeling the weight of my confession about to spill from my lips. “I was... sexting with your brother last night.”

Complete and utter silence.

I can’t meet Anastasia’s gaze, my cheeks flushed with embarrassment as I stammer out an apology. “Ana, I’m so sorry. It just... happened, and I didn’t know how to tell you.”

She still doesn’t say anything, and I fear that I’ve crossed a line, irrevocably damaging our friendship. Then, unexpectedly, Anastasia’s eyes widen in surprise, and she bursts into laughter.

“Stella!” she exclaims through her giggles, playfully nudging my arm. “You two were always flirting, but I never thought it would go this far! You little minx, always acting like you’re so innocent! I knew you had a darker side. Can you imagine if we became sisters-in-law?”

“Anastasia!” My voice is filled with shock, trying to process her reaction. I expect anger or disappointment, but instead, she’s making light of the situation. Her laughter is infectious, and despite my lingering guilt, a small smile tugs at the corner of my lips.

“Come on, Stella,” Anastasia grins. “Did you really think I’d be mad? Paul is a grown man, and you’re an amazing woman. If something happens between you two, then I’ll be happy for both of you…as long as I get credit at the wedding for setting the two of you up?”

Wedding? Anastasia is starting to get ahead of herself. I swallow. “What if nothing happens between the two of us?” I ask her nervously. “What if it’s just something casual.”

She studies me for a moment before shrugging. “That’s a decision to make between the two of you. I don’t have a say in that. But, I’m confident once you get to know him, you won’t be able to let him go.”

Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem, either…

“Thank you, Ana,” I murmur, my voice filled with gratitude. “I just... I don’t want to complicate things between us.”

“Stella, trust me,” she reassures me, her hand squeezing my shoulder gently. “There’s nothing to worry about. Now drink your coffee and let’s get you ready for work. No more moping around, okay?”

“Okay.”

Suddenly, the ticking clock on the wall catches my attention, and a jolt of panic surges through me. I’m running late for work – again. Hastily, I gulp down the remaining coffee, feeling its warmth spread through my chest and ignite a spark of energy within me.

I rush to my room and hurriedly get ready, but as I take my clothes off, Paul comes to mind.

I grab my phone and point it towards the mirror, getting into a sexy pose on the bed with my hands on my knees before snapping the picture.

I don’t think twice before I send it with a message underneath.

Does this answer your question.

By the time that I’m ready for work, he’s already responded.

You don’t know the things that I’m going to do to you.

I can feel myself getting wet again, as I reread the message over and over again.

Is it bad if I want to know every single thing he plans on doing to me?
