CHAPTER 29

AUSTIN

K ennedy was full of excited energy as soon as she opened her eyes. Sitting bolt upright in bed, she glanced at the window, saw that it was morning, and then let out a happy squeal. “It’s parade day! Austin, wake up. Happy Thanksgiving.” She nudged my shoulder. “It’s the parade today.”

I groaned sleepily. Yawning, I slid an arm around her waist and tried to pull her back down. “I’m awake, but the parade doesn’t start for hours. Come back here.”

“No, we can’t,” she said quickly, playfully smacking my arm away. “We need to shower. We need to go. We need to be there when it starts.”

I finally sighed and gave up on the notion of lying in for even a minute. Groaning again, I pushed myself into a sitting position. Still naked beside me, she had the covers pulled up to her chest, but I took in the sight of her like this, her lips swollen after all our kisses last night and her cheeks flushed with happiness. The contour of her neck to her shoulders and the smooth, pale expanse of her back before she rolled out of bed.

I watched her wrap the comforter around herself, practically buzzing with energy as she waited impatiently for me to follow her.

“Maybe we shouldn’t start our day with coffee today,” I said as I finally climbed off the mattress myself, foregoing her attempt at modesty and leaving behind the sheet she’d left me covered by. “You seem to be energetic enough already.”

She gave me a blank look. “Are you crazy?”

I chuckled, but then she seemed to realize that I was completely naked and her eyes widened. A fresh rosy hue colored her cheeks as her teeth sank into her lower lip. She held my gaze for a long moment until, ever so slowly, her eyes lowered, raking across every inch of me.

She let out a frustrated groan. “You’re horrible. No. Don’t tempt me. We’ve got places to be and we need to shower before we can go.”

I cocked my head at her, smirking before I strode forward and grabbed her hand, dragging her with me to the bathroom. “Too late. You woke it up by looking at me like that, but we can still shower. We’ll just make it a steamy one.”

She laughed, following me willingly and dropping the comforter on the way. Marching into the bathroom, I purposely kept my eyes off her until we were in the shower. Steam rose around us as the water started heating up.

When I finally turned to face her, her lips were parted, that same heat in her eyes that I’d seen last night. I reached for her hips, my gaze fixed on hers, and I walked her back until she was pressed against the tiles. Then I lowered my head and laid a kiss on her lips, already getting hard as I felt the wet heat of her body against my own.

Kennedy moaned and kissed me back, looping her arms around my neck and pressing her chest flush against mine. She parted her lips for me and my tongue delved between them. Moans emanated from the back of my throat at the sweet taste of her.

My cock was fully awake now, so hard that it was throbbing against the soft skin of her stomach. Every fiber of my being wanted her, and yet I knew how important it was to her that we make it to the parade on time. It was important to me too.

Deciding to kill two birds with one stone, I used the grip of my arm around her waist to pull her away from the wall. Still kissing her, I guided us under the spray. She trembled against me but chuckled when water suddenly started raining down on us.

“Is this your idea of kissing in the rain?”

“If you need it to be romantic, then yes.” I turned her in the circle of my arms and reached for my shampoo once her back was pressed firmly to my front.

“What if I don’t need it to be romantic?” she asked in a throaty whisper. “What is it then?”

“Just a guy, standing behind a girl, asking her to come for him,” I said against her ear.

She whimpered and reached for me. Her hand wound around the nape of my neck and her back arched. My cock ached for attention and I was desperately tempted to do something about it, but I would have to wait.

Right then, it was all about Kenny. Squeezing a generous amount of shampoo into my palm, I lathered it into her hair. My lips were on her shoulders, her throat, and her biceps as I washed her hair. Then I guided her back under the spray to rinse it all out.

She was breathing hard, moaning and whimpering. I teased my fingers up and down her sides after massaging some conditioner into her hair, and I felt like I was about to explode myself.

Besides, I figured the basics were done now, so I abandoned the idea of reaching for the body wash and brought my hands up to her breasts instead, stroking my thumbs across her nipples before I brought one hand to her chin, turning her head to kiss her. She moaned into my mouth, kissing me back hungrily as I toyed with a nipple while snaking my free hand down the length of her abdomen.

After brushing my fingertips lightly over her mound for a few seconds, I dropped my fingers lower, finding her slick and wanting as they slid between her folds. She started quivering against me and I hooked my arm around her hips again, holding her tight as I dipped my fingers into her before drawing them out to paint circles around her clit.

As much as I would’ve loved to have drawn this out more, we didn’t have time. We would be cutting it fine as it was and I needed her to let go. Breaking the kiss, I kept working between her legs and I brought my mouth back to her ear, my voice a harsh whisper as I told her all the things I wanted to do her that we didn’t have time for right then.

“After the parade, I’m going to bring you right back here and I’m going to spend the rest of the day with my face buried right here.” I gave her clit a light smack, nearly losing it myself when she sucked in a sharp breath and moaned my name in response. “I’m going to tie you to my bed and make you lose track of?—”

Her body stiffened, her grip on my neck tightening almost to the point of pain. She screwed her eyes shut and her lips popped open as her hips bucked into my hand. “Austin, I’m…”

“Yes,” I hissed against her skin, sealing my lips over her throat and sucking as I felt the orgasm race through her.

In its wake, she sagged against me, panting to catch her breath. When she finally opened her eyes, she reached for me, her intention clear, but I shook my head and dropped a light kiss on the tip of her nose. “We have to get going or we’re going to be late.”

She looked right into my eyes. “Then we’ll be late.”

Sinking to her knees with her gaze still locked on mine, she wrapped her fingers around the base of my cock and then sent a purposeful look at the shampoo. “Let’s see if you can multitask. Do what you need to do, but I’m not leaving until we’re done.”

Later in the morning after a quick stop at Kennedy’s for her to change, sated for now and thankfully not having missed the parade, we were down on street level. I’d brought her to the best vantage point near the start of the parade to watch it begin. The energy in the city this morning was vibrant and contagious, and Kenny was bouncing on the balls of her feet as I steered her to the front, where we’d have a clear view of the parade once it got underway.

“I can’t wait to see it,” she said, speaking so fast that her words almost blurred into each other. “Where do you think it is? It’s still okay, right? You didn’t hear anything about something going wrong?”

“Not a thing,” I said reassuringly, sliding my arms around her waist from behind. She wrapped her fingers around my forearms and leaned into me. The barrier separated the crowd from the street right in front of her. “It’s still perfect and it’s going to be a huge hit.”

A few moments later, the parade finally began and we watched silently with bated breath for our float to come into view. About twenty minutes in, she finally spotted it, pointing at it like a kid seeing a giant Mario balloon.

“Oh,” she gasped. “Look how beautiful it is Austin!”

She melted into me as we watched it come by. The pictures and videos projected above the giant table drew a series of “oohs” and “aahs” from the crowd. I heard other people around us noticing it too. A woman nearby pointed it out to her husband with a bright smile on her face.

“Now that’s unique,” she exclaimed. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

I grinned, so damn excited about this that my heart was thrumming in my chest. Kenny smiled too, glancing up at me with a soft light in her eyes before she turned back to the float. As it passed us by, music played and Autumn in New York by Frank Sinatra came on.

Tears suddenly welled in Kenny’s eyes and I frowned, pulling her into me and kissing the top of her head. “Hey, are you okay? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” She sniffled, but she still couldn’t stop smiling as she looked at me again. “It’s just that my aunt would’ve loved this. I wish she was here to see it.”

I held her a little tighter. She turned her back on the street to gaze up at me once it had made its way past us. Bringing a hand to my cheek, she stroked it gently with her fingertip, her blue eyes staring deep into mine. “Thank you. This has all been so special, Austin. Even if the business doesn’t pan out, I’m grateful for this moment and to be sharing it with you.”

The words were so heartfelt that my chest tightened and I was once again hit with the feeling that this girl was special. Bending my head, I lowered my lips to hers and readjusted my grip on her hips with one hand, the other coming up to capture her cheek.

As soon as my mouth touched hers, my heart went as crazy as the kids around us with the appearance of every new, giant balloon, and even I had to admit that there was something sweet and romantic about this kiss amidst the chaos and joy of the parade.

Until I heard someone yell, “Oh no!” and then all hell broke loose around us.
