Chapter 31

Chapter Thirty-One

Heidi

B ecoming a Turner wasn’t as bad as Heidi thought. But then, it had only been half a day.

They’d married in mid-January at the Turner chapel with Reverend Wendy Sprite conducting the ceremony. She wore a simple white empire line dress with a matching cloak, both in cream. Erica had spoiled her with a stunning pair of red soled heels. Jason ended up carrying her to and from the church so they didn’t ruin in the snow.

She didn’t mind that at all.

Now they were all in one of the smaller rooms in Edward Hall eating a superb wedding breakfast courtesy of Remi Speckle. Erica had told her that Remi didn’t want the food to go to waste. Jason had to go back to the Rum Distillery to get more supplies for the ice cream but that was no hardship. Stan didn’t produce a single spanner, or if he did Heidi never saw them.

The wedding of the decade according to the Hollywood gossip magazines had gone without issue and the Vogue spread would release in a couple of weeks.

Heidi didn’t see Aunt Cynthia, and she was glad there weren’t any confrontations. They’d kept the wedding small with family and a few friends. Heidi’s father got his roast potatoes and didn’t have to eat pizza.

Once they’d finished eating, everyone at the gathering went back down into the town and the six Turners went back to Archer and Erica’s place for late drinks.

“We have some news,” Archer said.

Erica was by his side on the love seat nursing a hot chocolate.

Heidi caught Jason’s eyes darting to Erica’s stomach and then back to Archer’s face. It was beaming and then Erica placed her hand over her belly.

“We’re having a baby,” Erica said, tears threatening to spill over. “I didn’t want to overshadow your wedding plans, so we waited.”

Heidi was on her feet and hugging Erica, hauling her up to a standing position. “That’s the best news,” she said.

“Thank you, I hope you don’t mind us telling you all now?” Erica said, worry etching her face and her megawatt smile disappearing.

“Are you kidding? This is fantastic.”

Hugs and kisses went around the group and they all collapsed back onto the sofas and chairs.

“When are you due?” Heidi asked, straight into work mode.

“Early June. I’m going to need a midwife,” she said and beamed a smile at Heidi.

“You are going to have the best care in the world,” Heidi vowed.

“Thanks, Heidi,” Archer said. “We’re so excited to start our family.”

“That should buy me a lot time now,” Luke said and laughed, swirling his rum in the glass.

“You want to get married. It’s me that doesn’t want to get married,” Daisy said.

“I’m not talking about marriage, I’m talking about continuing the Turner line. Aunt Cynthia is going to burst at this news,” Luke said.

“Um,” Archer said. “We don’t plan on telling her.”

“How the fuck are you going to get away with that. You know we live on Copper Island, right?” Luke said.

“We’re hoping she keeps to her word and doesn’t come out of her rooms.”

“Good luck with that,” Jason muttered and grinned at his brother.

“If she wants to come to us and ask questions, then fine, we’ll tell her but we don’t plan on going to see her to share the news,” Archer said.

“Fair enough, we won’t either. Not that any of us are planning on seeing her. This estate is big enough we don’t have to bump into her,” Daisy said.

“This is really great news. I’m so glad you shared it today with us. It’s like a double celebration of the expansion of this little family,” Heidi said. “I happy I’m a Turner.”

“Cheers to that,” Luke said raising his glass.

“Cheers,” the rest of them said.

“There’s another piece of good news,” Jason said. “Bailey gave me the documents for the piece of land for the swap shop.”

“Is it a boggy marsh?” Luke asked.

“I went and checked it out, before I told you. It’s pretty sweet. It’s out on the airport land. She’s given you a warehouse as well as the land. It’s pretty considerate that you’ll have somewhere secure and ready-made.”

Everyone was stunned at the consideration and thought.

“There has to be a catch,” Daisy said.
