Eleven months later
“I can’t believe we’re back!”
Jensen’s laughter echoes throughout the luxury log cabin that is tucked in the Catskill Mountains. Warm, golden light illuminates the inside as we venture around, exploring the stone fireplace, multiple bedrooms, and cozy kitchen. Not that we’ll be doing much cooking during our little weekend getaway, but it’s always nice when a vacation spot feels homey.
“A little better than the last cabin, huh?” Jensen replies as he meets me by the sliding patio door, peering out at the fire pit as light snow continues to tumble down from the early night sky.
I smile and slip under his arm, leaning against his side and his warm, dark blue sweater. “It was cute.”
I’ll never forget the last time we were in the Catskills. We were stuck in a cabin in the middle of a snowstorm, worried that we were going to miss Christmas with our families and wired from finally telling each other that we wanted to be with each other.
That trip feels like a lifetime ago, but also like it was just yesterday. So much has changed in the past eleven months. I’ve grown in ways I never imagined, finding my footing in a new job and navigating a relationship with my boss. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it.
I think back to that moment in the cabin, our confessions lingering in the air like the promise of a new beginning. I didn’t know then what would happen next; if we could find a way to make it work without sacrificing everything we had worked so hard for. But now, standing here eleven months later, I know that taking that risk was the best decision of my life. Every challenge, every doubt, every fear was just a steppingstone toward this moment, toward us.
“We really needed this,” Jensen sighs, sounding a little tired as he rests his head against mine. “Work has been crazy this year.”
I nod, feeling the weight of the year settle in my chest. “Yeah, but it’s been amazing too. We’ve accomplished so much, both at work and…with us.”
Jensen lifts his head and gazes at me, a soft smile spreading across his lips. “I wouldn’t change a thing. Not a single thing.”
I smile back, my heart swelling with affection. “Me neither. Not even that crazy snowstorm that got us stuck in a cabin the first time.”
His laugh rumbles through me, sending a wave of warmth through my body. “Especially not that. It gave me a reason to tell you how I feel.”
I lean into him, grateful for everything that brought us here, to this moment. “You know, I always thought that love would come in some neat little package, something easy and straightforward. But what we have…it’s real. It’s messy and complicated and more beautiful than I ever imagined.”
Jensen nods, his thumb brushing my cheek. “That’s what makes it special. It’s ours.”
“Because we’re the biggest dating and relationship app on the market!” I remind him as I turn to face him, my hands cupping his face. “Our update increased our traffic by almost double! We have more users now than ever, and we have a social media trend going on! We barely have to do any advertising ourselves at this point because people are doing it for us.”
Jensen smiles and kisses my forehead. “Because you’ve been kicking ass as my brand specialist. Josh couldn’t be happier with the performance markers you’re hitting.”
I’ve been working really hard to prove myself. Jensen and I didn’t have any issues when we went public with our relationship, but I never wanted anyone to think that I was promoted because I was with him. I needed to show people that I had earned the position, and I think the results speak for themselves.
“I work for an amazing company that encourages me to do my best,” I point out. He’s not the only perk that comes with the job. I’ve got amazing benefits and work friends that I don't mind spending hours with during the workday. Plus, the view of the city from my office is picture worthy.
Jensen twines his fingers with mine and leads me over to the fireplace. “Want to enjoy the fire for a little while?”
“Sounds perfect.” I slip off my heels and my black coat, leaving myself in a long-sleeved black dress that hugs my figure and stops just above my knees.
Jensen gets a fire going and turns to me, giving me a warm smile that makes butterflies flutter in my stomach. Somehow, he can still do that to me, even after all these months together.
It has been the best year ever so far, and it’s not even over yet!
“Your mom insists on hosting Thanksgiving at their place this year, but we can do Christmas at our place again,” Jensen tells me as he wraps his arms around my body, holding the small of my back.
Our place. A few months ago, I ditched my tiny studio and moved into Jensen’s penthouse. I spent more time there than in my own apartment anyway, and when he surprised me with a key, there was no way I was going to say no.
I loved waking up with him in the morning and falling asleep in his arms at night. We had finally built a routine with each other, and I didn’t think I’d ever felt so at home before. It’s like I’ve finally found the place where I truly belong.
“That sounds perfect. I think we should host Christmas every year,” I tell him with a hopeful glint in my eyes. “I like having Oliver, Holly, and my parents all together. It’s like our own little family we made.”
Jensen smiles and nods. “That’s what I want too.”
I stroke the hair on the back of his head, reveling in the moment as the fire lightly crackles next to us. Warmth settles in the cozy cabin, surrounding us with comfort as we hold each other close. I can’t think of a better way to spend the weekend before we dive back into the craziness of work.
“I’ve been wanting to do this trip for a while now,” Jensen admits.
My eyebrows lift in surprise. “Really? I thought you just planned this on a whim because we were getting a little burned out.”
Jensen shakes his head as his hands move to my hips, his thumbs lightly rubbing circles against my waist. “I’ve been wanting to take you back here for months. I was just waiting for the perfect moment.”
I tilt my head at him. “Perfect moment?”
I study his face, my heart fluttering with curiosity and a bit of nervous excitement. The way he’s looking at me, with that mix of tenderness and determination…I can’t help but feel like something big is about to happen.
A thousand thoughts rush through my mind. Is he planning something? Does he have another surprise up his sleeve? With Jensen, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected, but this feels different. It feels…monumental.
“To show you how much I love you.”
My heart stops as he slowly lowers himself down to one knee on the fluffy, white rug in front of the burning fireplace. I part my lips to speak, but no words come out as my shock renders me speechless.
Is this really happening? It’s really happening!
Jensen pulls a black ring box out of his back pocket and holds it in the palm of his hand. “It took me weeks to find the perfect ring. I refused to settle for anything less because you deserve the world, Alyssa. And for as long as I live, I’m going to give you that and more.”
Hot tears flood my eyes as I gaze down at him, my hands already starting to shake as I try to hold back my tears as much as I can. This is it. The moment I’ve dreamed about but never dared to imagine could be so perfect, so utterly us. I blink through my tears, my heart swelling to the point of bursting as I look at him on one knee, holding my grandmother’s ring—the ring I’ve always cherished, that has meant so much to my family.
I think of all the times my grandmother told me about her love story, how she met my grandfather and fell head over heels, knowing he was the one from the first moment they met. She used to tell me I’d find that kind of love one day, a love that would sweep me off my feet and change everything. And here it is, right in front of me.
Jensen’s voice breaks through my thoughts, his eyes never leaving mine. “I love you, Alyssa. You’re the person I want to spend the rest of my days with…”
His words wrap around me, filling every empty space in my heart. I can barely breathe, barely think. All I know is that this is the man I want to spend forever with. The man who makes every day brighter, who challenges me to be better, who loves me for exactly who I am.
“Will you marry me?”
It takes everything in me not to sob and to actually give him a verbal answer as tears continue pouring down my cheeks.
“Yes! Of course, yes!”
The words burst out of me along with the breath I didn’t know I was holding. A wave of relief and exhilaration crashes over me, making my knees feel weak. I feel like I’m floating, like every fear and doubt I’ve ever had is melting away, leaving only this beautiful, brilliant truth: I’m going to marry the man I love.
Jensen’s smile could light up the darkest of nights as he slips the ring onto my finger, his hands steady despite the tremor of emotion in his eyes. I can’t stop the tears from falling, can’t stop the laughter bubbling up from deep inside me. This is everything I’ve ever wanted and more.
Jensen smiles in pure relief, even if he shouldn’t have thought for a single second that I would say no. He carefully admires how the ring gleams in the firelight.
I sink down to my knees in front of him and cup his face, drawing him down for a deep kiss that makes his breath hitch. “I love you…I love you…”
Jensen chuckles and pecks my lips. “And I love you.”
I tilt my head back to gaze up at him. “More than anything else in the world.”
Jensen’s hand slips around to the back of my neck under my hair. Just that simple embrace sends a wave of warmth through my body. “I just want you to know how loved you are.”
I smile at him as my cheeks slightly redden. “I feel very loved right now.”
Jensen hums under his breath and shakes his head. “I can do better.”
There’s no way that I’m stopping him.
Our lips collide once more, heat as hot as the fire burning in the fireplace coursing through our bodies as our hands roam. He slides his fingers through my hair. Grips my waist. Unzips the back of my dress.
I tilt my head back in pleasure, feeling the soft wetness of his mouth on my neck. My hands fumble with the bottom of his sweater, nudging it up his firm torso.
We break apart, tearing at our own clothes and tossing them into a growing pile next to the fireplace. No more waiting. No more hiding.
It’s just us, our love, and our desires in this cabin tonight.
“I could stay here forever with you,” Jensen murmurs near my ear as he lays me down on the soft rug, the warmth of the fire mingling with the heated desire thrumming through us. “Kissing you. Touching you. Tasting you.”
My breath hitches as his tongue strokes over one of my hard nipples. “Jensen…”
“Yes,” Jensen breathes out, loving the sound of his name on my lips. He nudges my thighs apart with his knee, giving his hand enough space to slip between them as well. He runs his fingertips through my glistening wet folds, teasing my clit before pushing two fingers inside of me.
A broken gasp tumbles from my lips as he thrusts his fingers inside of me, the heel of his hand grinding against my clit. I tangle my fingers in his hair, my moans being muffled by his mouth as he kisses me once more.
Every touch sets me ablaze, tension building within me. All of our passion creates a warm haze that fills the entire cabin, making our skin even hotter to the touch. It’s almost hard to breathe, but the pleasure is breathtaking.
“No more teasing,” I beg him as his mouth moves to my other breast.
Every thrust of his fingers is a promise of even more to come, making me ache for more. My core flutters around his fingers, my wetness soaking his skin.
Jensen groans at the sensation and draws his hand away, moving it to his cock to slowly stroke himself as he positions himself between my parted thighs. “You look so beautiful, baby.”
I wrap my arms around his neck the moment he comes close enough, my lips crashing against his just as he slips his cock inside of me. “Oh…fuck…”
“Yes, fuck…you feel perfect.”
I whimper as he bottoms out, my nerves and senses heightening as I drift closer and closer to orgasm. My nails sink into his shoulders as he starts to slowly rock himself in and out of me, my breaths growing quicker and heavier. “I need it all. Give me everything.”
Jensen presses his face into the crook of my neck, sucking a mark into the top of my shoulder as he thrusts into me deeper and harder.
The slight tinge of pain just adds to the pleasure firing through my whole body. My breaths border on pants, pressure building and intensifying low in my stomach. Every thrust adds to the tension, promising a burst of pleasure just around the corner.
“So good…don’t stop,” I plead, my nails digging crescent marks into his shoulders.
Jensen grunts at the sensation, but it only spurs him on. He pounds into me, my legs going over his shoulders as he finds the perfect angle to unravel me faster and faster.
I let out a pleased gasp as the pressure doubles, my body starting to writhe. It feels like he goes deeper and deeper with each thrust, hitting the perfect spot over and over without holding back in the slightest.
Just what I need.
Jensen’s jaw tenses as he hangs onto what sense of control he has left. Watching me fall apart makes him want to do the same. He drives into me, not daring to slow down or change pace. “There you go. Come for me, baby.”
I throw my head back as a pleased cry tears from me, echoing throughout the large cabin. I’m left breathless, my head borderline spinning as the heat overtakes me.
Jensen captures my lips in a searing hot kiss, his muscles tensing beneath my hands as he finishes inside of me. His thrusts slow to a heavy stop, our heavy breaths mingling. “Fuck. Incredible every single time.”
I breathlessly nod as I stroke my fingers through his hair, slowly coming down from the pleasurable high. The feeling of his body against mine coaxes a blissful smile onto my face as my fingers drift down to his back just to feel his warm, bare skin.
“You’re amazing,” I murmur.
Jensen lifts his head so that he can peer down at me, a look of adoration filling his eyes. “That’s all you, baby. Without a doubt.”
I hold his gaze, my heart fluttering as reality takes hold of me. “We’re engaged.”
Jensen smiles and nods, a lively flush adorning his face just like mine. Damn it, he’s so handsome, and he’s mine . “We’re going to be married. And we’re going to be happy.”
The truest words ever spoken. I can’t predict the future, but I do know what I feel in my heart.
And what I feel is more certain than anything I’ve ever known. This is just the beginning for us—of a lifetime of adventures, of love, of shared dreams. I see a future filled with laughter and joy, with the little moments that make up a life together. Holidays with our families, late-night talks, spontaneous getaways, and all the quiet mornings waking up next to him.
I see it all so clearly, and I can’t wait to live it. Every single moment of it.
Jensen leans down, his forehead resting against mine, his breath warm against my lips. “You’re my forever, Alyssa. Now and always.”
I smile up at him, feeling the truth of his words settling deep within me. “Always.”
The End
***
Thank you so much for your interest in my books. When I finished writing this book, I just couldn't stop thinking about Jensen and Alyssa. I wrote a little special bonus epilogue that takes place 5 years later.
By the way, if you enjoyed this story, please check out my other hot forbidden romance, My Bestie's Dad.
My bestie’s dad just took my v-card. Oops.
My roommate thought a hot girls summer in Malibu would mend my broken heart. She didn’t know how right she was.
My confidence got a boost when her sexy dad rescued me in the waves. We had an instant connection.
I can’t stop thinking about how the ocean water beads on his sculpted abs.
Now we are living under the same roof and our attraction is impossible to ignore.
My friend would be scarred for life if she knew what I was doing in every room of her house with her Dad while she was at work.
People don't expect us to be together and neither did I.
My feelings for him are more than just physical but I don’t know if he loves me the same way. I’m willing to risk everything to find out.
