Brina got out of the shower in the master bedroom, dried off, and then put on the terrycloth bathrobe hanging on the coat rack. When she walked into the bedroom, she didn’t at first see Ronny. She expected him to either be in bed or on his couch that faced the wall-sized window that overlooked a sweeping view of Windale, but she tried to peep around but couldn’t see anything. So she flopped the towel over the chair and walked around to the side of the couch. And that was when she saw him. He was lying on his back, in his bathrobe too, his eyes tired and sleepy.
“There you are,” Brina said with a smile.
Ronny smiled, too, when he saw her pretty face. “Come here.”
She went over to him and sat beside him on the edge of the couch.
He immediately began rubbing her arm. “How do you feel?”
Brina exhaled. “Not great. Drained. It was all so unnecessary. And the way he blamed the one woman that always had his back just makes it so sad.”
Ronny felt the same way. “That’s the part that breaks my heart too. She loves her employees so much and many of them don’t give a damn about her. She’s devoted her life to them, to this house, and this is how she’s repaid?” He shook his head. Then he seemed to perk up. “I spoke with Mr. Prado,” he added.
Brina looked at him. “What did he say? How is she?”
“He says she’s recovering nicely: his word. When she’s not asleep or groggy, he says she’s talking to him very lucidly and is in very good spirits. Which was great to hear.”
“Yes it is. She’s such a sweet person. She gave me a chance when nobody gave me a prayer. I love her.”
Ronny was touched by her humanity. “That’s why I love you,” he said.
Brina stared at him. It was the first time he’d uttered those words.
“I know it’s early in our relationship,” he added. “But I can’t help how I feel. And I’m not going to deny those feelings any longer.”
Brina nodded. “Me either. I love you, too, Ronny.”
He smiled and rubbed the side of her face. Then he leaned her down, gave her a sweet kiss, and then he laid her on top of him and wrapped her into his arms. “You’re a special lady.”
“You’re a special man.”
“Am I?”
“Of course you are.”
“Then why did you say we needed to take it slow if I’m so special?”
“Because you’re commitment-phobic. And I’ve been in those kinds of relationships before. You need to work through that before it’s full steam ahead.”
Ronny placed his hands on the sides of her face. “Women also believe I’m moody.”
“You are.”
Ronny wasn’t certain if he was pleased to hear her confirm it. “I promise you I’ll work on it.”
Brina considered him. “What about Governor Grisham’s daughter? And this talk of you becoming President?”
Ronny shook his head. “Just talk. Nothing to it.”
“But you want to be President someday?”
“Not at all. It’s a business play. I am planning a takeover of Grisham Refineries, a great company he’s running in the ground with his mismanagement. But I need him looking over here, in the politics realm, while I make my move over there, in the business realm. The only realm I’m interested in.”
Brina smiled. “That sounds ruthless.”
Ronny was smiling. “That’s me, Sabrina. I am ruthless in business. But not in the heart.”
A look of apprehension appeared in Brina’s big, hazel eyes. Ronny rubbed her soft hair. “I am a risk, Sabrina. No question about it. And this love thing? It’ll be my first time down this particular road. But I see in you what I need most: honesty and virtue and a woman of great character. I always want to be a better man after being around you.”
Brina smiled. “That’s so sweet.”
“But?” He could still see her apprehension.
“But we’re still going to take it slow. Then we’ll know if it’s a good fit or not.”
Ronny smiled. “You’ll never know how wonderful that sounds to me.”
That didn’t sound wonderful to Brina. “Why? Because it gives you a way out?”
“Because it makes it clear to me that you aren’t a gold digger looking for a way up.”
Brina grinned. “You thought I was a gold digger? Really ?”
“I think everybody is. But you’re proving me wrong. And I love that.”
Brina smiled. He simply adored her smile. And he kissed her.
But that kiss only reminded them of their closeness. So Ronny began kissing her again. The passion rose in both of them and he lifted her slightly and untied his robe, revealing his naked body. And he continued to kiss her hard.
Then he untied her robe, revealing her naked body, and as they lay skin to skin their kissing increased. And it was Brina who moved down his body, kissing him as she went, until she began to slowly lick and then go down on his manhood. He groaned and arched as she did him. It was exactly what he needed in that moment.
But before he came in her mouth, he pulled out, pulled her back up on top of him, and entered her with a hard thrust.
And thus began their long, loving, lustful retreat into each other.
They made passionate love.
